The Sage Island of Aolai

Aolai is an enormous Sky Island several times larger than Skypiea and is the origin home of the Humandrills. It is devoid of technology and is sage-like in nature. It is filled with mountains, lakes, rivers, waterfalls, endless forests, and is home to a wide variety of animal and plant species. There are a number of Buddha and Oni statues and other symbols on the island, hinting at a great history - though what it all means is unknown. Aolai boasts a serene atmosphere and an incredible air.

Locations:

The Great Buddha Statue:

A several hundred feet tall, enormous statue of Buddha, gracing an almost endless flatland. A temple overlooks the flatlands and the praying Buddha statue.

The Man and Woman Statues:

A small rock bridge that connects the peaks of two mountains, with enormous statues of a man and a woman on each side of the bridge, looking away from one another.

The Great Waterfalls of Aolai:

An enormous waterfall area where many waterfalls have formed. The cascading waters plummet deep down into a large basin.

The Praying Buddha Statue:

At the bottom of one of the waterfalls is a praying Buddha statue. The natural fall of the waterfall covers most of the Buddha statue, with only its face and praying hands peeking out of the cascading water. What came first, the Buddha statue or the waterfall, is unknown.

The Forbidden Forest and the Evil Oni Statue:

An enormous forbidden forest. Somewhere inside it is a stature resembling the face of an evil Oni. Humandrills are not allowed to enter the forest - though the new generation does not know why such an act is forbidden.

The Great Tree of Aolai:

Two enormous trees that intertwine at the treetops to form one great tree. It is the oldest and largest tree in Aolai.

The Evil Oni's Maw:

An upside down volcano in the skies above Aolai. Entering the volcano is akin to entering an evil Oni's maw.

Yoshitsune's Tree:

A small tree atop a small hill.

Aolai's Great Ocean:

Aolai's great ocean is home to a wide variety of fish. It spans far and wide, and is the only ocean on Aolai, forming about 40% of its surface.

The Bridge of the Ancestors:

A wooden bridge that starts at the shores of the great ocean, and reaches about three kilometers into the ocean body. There, it suddenly stops. What the purpose of the bridge is, is unknown.

Aolai's Great River:

An enormous river that flows from the ocean more than two thousand kilometers inland. At the end of the river, the water cascades into a deep hole that seems to go deep into the depths of the island. Above the hole is a temple.

Sasaki's Origin Story - The History of Aolai

Chaos and restlessness overtook the world after the events of Whole Cake Island. The Navy. The Shichibukai. The Yonkou. Those three great powers kept each other in check, and kept the balance of the world. But with the new generation rising, that balance was put to a test. In Wano Kuni, the strongest of the new generation matched up against the existing rulers of the seas for the first time. On Whole Cake Island, that battle finally reached its conclusion, and resulted in the deaths of two Yonkous.

Charlotte Linlin, Yonkou Big Mom.
The Strongest Creature in the World, Yonkou Kaidou.

Both had fallen, one at the hands of the Navy. Vice Admiral Kallavan. The other at the hands of a dangerous pirate. La Spada. The wildcard on Whole Cake Island was a mysterious man named Sasaki. On paper, a Vice Admiral of the Navy. On paper, a subordinate of the now retired legendary Marine, Leonard Burns. However, in truth, a man of mystery, whose life seemed to revolve around a mission to defeat La Spada. A dangerous pirate woman, who Sasaki feared would bring the world to ruin. What the exact relationship between Sasaki and La Spada is, is anyone's guess. Another mystery. However, one thing was clear. On Whole Cake Island, after her fight with Big Mom, La Spada was at her weakest. She was at her most vulnerable. It was the opportune time for Sasaki to strike.

But, he failed. He chose to protect the life of his new subordinate, Zeus, instead of finishing La Spada off. Now, La Spada remained a threat to the world.

-

The scene whirled to the skies, past the white clouds that adorned it. The camera zoomed into the face of Sasaki, who stared into the distance with a shocked look on his face.

A-Aolai...! I-It exists!

Sasaki, who was standing atop Zeus, saw the clouds in the distance starting to part, and Aolai came into view.

Aolai Campaign #1 @Kaka

A land long forgotten, hidden from the eyes of outsiders, Aolai had laid undisturbed for centuries. Until this day. Now, a new arrival announces the return of the past. Someone who had not set foot on the magical land in near a millennia finally arrived back where his story began. For Sasaki, time had passed much faster, yet now it would seem his past called to him.

Although the land he had rediscovered in the sky might seem visually familiar to what he had seen before, should the part human, part humandrill extend his senses through his color of observation he would find himself unable to sense anything specific. It would feel to him as if he was submerged in a deep ocean, the pressure bearing down on him from all sides. Yet to his naked eyes, nothing would be amiss. Until-

Who goes there? A voice broke through the serene silence, agitated and suspicious, shouting up to Sasaki. A figure leaped up from the clouds and latched onto a pillar rising high into the air, a tail gripping onto the stone and holding it in place. Held in its hands was a staff, longer than its body. Red fur grow on the humandrill's body, a white coat adorned its shoulders.

Elsewhere on Aolai a select few voices spoke up, deep tones of ancient lore.

Someone has arrived.

Who may it be?

Whoever it is, they bring change.

Sasaki, standing atop Zeus, continued to stare into the distance, the image of Aolai reflecting in his eyes. It had been so long. So long, since Sasaki had seen Aolai. Zeus was talking to Sasaki, but Sasaki couldn't hear him. Someone else was tugging onto Sasaki's clothing, trying to snap him out of it - but to no avail. Sasaki was in a complete trance, his history unfolding itself in his mind. His enormous Kenbun-shoku no Haki, which Sasaki was using passively, likely contributed to this trance. He could not feel anything in particular from Aolai. He could not feel the Gods of Aolai either. All he felt, was an infinite weight, like that of the ocean. Finally, Zeus snapped Sasaki out of it.

Hey! Sasaki-san! Can you hear me?!

Right... I can hear you. Sorry about that. What's up?

Sasaki answered, before another voice entered the conversation.

You've been acting weird since you saw that island over there. What's wrong with it? Do you feel something?

Sasaki looked down. Standing next to him was Saru, his friend. A young man, half Human-half Humandrill, with a monkey tail and a set of very jagged teeth. Saru was too young to know this place, he was born down in the blues.

This place, it's your...

Before Sasaki could finish that sentence, a grand pillar suddenly stared to rise from the lands below, piercing up to the skies. Latching onto that pillar was a Humandrill, speaking with a booming voice. The Humandrill questioned who the group was, staring at them. This caught Sasaki off guard. In one sense, this was trouble, because the Humandrill might be defensive and protective of his land. In another sense, Sasaki was relieved to see a Humandrill alive. One that was home to Aolai.

You're alive!

Sasaki said instinctively. He did not know this Humandrill - instead, he was talking in general.

Hey Zeus, get closer, so we can meet him!

Sasaki said, Zeus nodding and flying closer.

The humandrill who had latched himself onto the pillar, calling up to Sasaki found himself being ignored. Anger rising, he started climbing further up, soon reaching the top., listening to the voices talking among themselves. As he ascended, he heard a name spoken. Sasaki. Why did that sound familiar? That thought still churning in his mind, he reached the top of the pillar as the intruders descended on their strange cloud. Once more he raised his voice.

State your business, intruders. I am Hanuman, protector of Aolai. Hanuman rose to his full height, holding his staff at the ready. I will not allow you to enter this land unless I am sure of your intentions!

It seems that one of them is named Sasaki.

Could it be the same Sasaki? The time would be correct. I could bring them here to us.

No. We must ascertain their identity. It could be a ploy of Svahi.

This is true.

Sasaki did not reply to the Humandrill's words from a distance, instead opting to have Zeus move them closer. Zeus floated his way toward the Humandrill, but before he could close the distance fully, the Humandrill spoke up once again, remanding that they stated their business, else he would not let them enter Aolai. The Humandrill revealed his identity as Hanuman, the Protector of Aolai. Sasaki's eyes narrowed momentarily when Hanuman called himself the Protector of Aolai, though what exactly it all meant was anyone's guess. Zeus and Saru would not know. When told to do so, Zeus halted, not approaching too closely, so as to avoid any aggressive confrontation. He looked up at Sasaki, as if trying to double check if he should still get closer. But, Sasaki spoke up, addressing Hanuman.

So you're the current Protector of Aolai... I see.

Hanuman-san... how has Aolai been? Have you managed to keep it protected during your tenure? And why is it here? This is not the location of Aolai in the past...

Sasaki said, inquiring further information instead of stating his business. Zeus and Saru looked confused, but they didn't butt into the conversation.

What are they talking about?

No clue...

Hanuman was already angry, yet the stranger's insistence of not answering his questions finally caused the humandrill to snap. He nearly leapt after the three of them, but decided against it at the last moment, not knowing whether the cloud would move away or not. Instead, he raised his back straight, and slammed the butt of his staff against the pillar he stood on. The shock of the strike traveled down the length of the pillar, as well as expanding outwards, disrupting the air itself. But most notably a set of bells rang in unison below Hanuman, shattering the calm that had surrounded them, as birds scattered from within the clouds as the sound spread.

I am the one asking questions. Hanuman spoke, his voice clear and concise, yet anger was clearly barely contained. You are the intruders in our lands, I will have your explanations now, or I shall be forced to expel you.

In his mind though, the protector went over the words the other man had spoken. He clearly knew several things of this land's ancient past, but that by no means meant that he had pure intentions. Still, the name Sasaki was eerily familiar to him, he could have sworn he had heard it before, but even in the centuries that he had lived Hanuman had not met someone named that, he was sure, as he had never seen outsiders before.

Sasaki did not answer Hanuman's question, instead posting questions of his own. How has Aolai been? Has he managed to protect it at all times? Why was Aolai at this location? Those were all things that Sasaki wished to know, but his inquisitive nature did not bode well in the situation. Hanuman lost his patience, slamming the pommel of his staff into the pillar that he stood on. A shockwave reverberated throughout the pillar, setting off a set of bells that rank loudly throughout Aolai. Birds flew off, and Hanuman demanded an explanation one more time - else he would be forced to expel Sasaki and the group. Unfortunately, Sasaki could not tell Hanuman everything. Specifically, he could not tell him too much about himself, or why he was here.

Hanuman-san... unfortunately, I cannot answer those questions.

Sasaki said, a drop of nervous sweat rolling down his temple. Sasaki knew what this non compliance meant. Hanuman would attack. Zeus and Saru noticed Sasaki's nervousness, though they still did not know what it was about, or what was going on.

Please let me pass... there is something I have to find.

Sasaki said, asking Hanuman one more time, to let them go for now.

Patience was not a virtue that Hanuman possessed in large quantities, instead he was prideful. He carried within himself a great amount of pride in Aolai and its people, in the Guardians, and last but not least in the duty they had given him. To defend their homeland against intruders that would seek to cause them harm. His patience was at an end, his pride and glory was not. This stranger thought Hanuman would simply let him pass, not giving any explanation? Ridiculous.

Expel it is. Hanuman said, falling into combat pose, staff held out to the right, left leg front, right leg back and to the side. His free hand swung in a half circle from top to left and down in front of him. Sliding his right leg across behind him, Hanuman began to twirl his staff in his right hand, pulling his left leg back and to the right. Beginning from his feet and up, he twisted his body around, his staff still spinning, even as his torso whipped around. The air warped around his staff, pulling inwards at the center while pushing outwards at the edges.

As his entire body snapped around, the twist taking only a split second, Hanuman brought the staff out of the spin and thrust it forwards, bringing the momentum with it and unleashing it in a cone shape from its tip. A blast expelled outwards, aiming to engulf Sasaki and his allies, blowing them away and casting them out of Aolai. Although it was not a greatly damaging shockwave, it would be strong and wide enough to easily throw them a great distance, should it not be avoided or defended against somehow.(
Let's say mountain level?) Begone.

__________________________________________________

Hanuman has engaged the intruders in battle, trying to expel them.

In self defense?

Nay, in defense of Aolai, they refused to answer his inquiries.

Foolish. Even if it were Sasaki, he should know better.

This is true, yet I worry about Hanuman. This intruder has great power. I could feel his senses trying to breach my veil earlier.

Sasaki did not comply with Hanuman's demands - and the moment he failed to do so, the unfolding of the events became set in stone. There was no chance that Hanuman would not act, for it was his duty as Protector of Aolai, a duty that Sasaki knew very well. Hanuman entered a battle stance, and the air around him became heavy and thick. He motioned with his staff, taking command of the air around him, before thrusting the staff forward, unleashing a massive, cone shaped blast of compressed air. For now, the attack did not seem to have intent to kill. It was not strong enough. Instead, it looked like Hanuman intended to forcefully push Sasaki and the group out of Aolai's air space, banishing them. But, it would not succeed. Sasaki, too, had an important duty.

As the blast of air approached, Zeus and Saru became visibly frantic.

O-Oi, what should we d-do?!

I don't freakin' know, ask the old man! It's his fault!

Zeus asked, and Saru answered, nervous sweats about them. But, there was no cause for concern. Sasaki raised his right hand, the opened palm facing the incoming attack. Electricity crackled around Sasaki's right arm, all the way from the fingertips up to the shoulder. Suddenly, the intensity of the electricity skyrocketed, and the sheer heat from it superheated the air, creating a vicious thunderclap. The thunderclap disrupted and destroyed the incoming blast of air, neutralizing it completely.

Sasaki's left hand reached for the Monkey King's staff on his back, wielding it with his left hand, spinning it twice before holding it to his side. In that moment, Saru, who was known for having little patience and a big temper to match, jumped off of Zeus and straight toward Hanuman.

Who goes and just attacks someone, you clown?!

Saru said. Using the Baku Baku no Mi, he morphed two Milky Dials that he had consumed, onto the bottom of his feet. The Milky Dials shot out Milky Clouds, which Saru rode all the way to Hanuman - like riding on a pair of air skates that left clouds in their trails. Once in range, Saru, much smaller than Hanumn in stature, pointed the palm of his right hand up toward Hanuman's face. Morphed on the palm of his right hand was a Flash Dial, which Saru activated, unleashing a bright, blinding flash of light. With a grin on his face, showing his mischevious set of spiked teeth, Saru spoke.

Nyahaha, serves ya right!

Technique used by Sasaki:

Kari:
Sasaki heats the air around him with his Goro Goro no Mi powers until it explodes in a thunder clap. This is used to avoid and neutralize non-material attacks, such as flying slashes or certain other elemental attacks. Unranked - supplementary move.

Hanuman paused with his staff pointed forwards, aimed at the intruders as his assault flew forward seeking to send them flying away from Aolai. Yet through some strange move of his foe his attack was rendered useless, passing around them and leaving them unscathed. Sasaki himself still remained quiet, but his strange companions were not so restrained. The other humanoid, Saru, broke free from the other two, sliding across the air on strange clouds he created himself.

As Saru reached closer to Hanuman he transformed again, this time more clearly visible to Hanuman. His hand transformed into some sort of strange shell concoction, drawing the attention of Hanuman. This turned out to be a trap however, as the dial unleashed a bright flash, blinding the protector.

Aahh! Hanuman recoiled from the light and pulled his staff back, his eyes overwhelmed momentarily. However he was not as impeded as his foes may assume, going off of their own senses when using their color of observation. Reaching out with his own, Hanuman was able to not only pierce the vast, invisible mass of energy that surrounded all of Aolai, he was able to use it to extend his own senses even more than he should have been able to normally.

You cretin! Hanuman exclaimed, his eyes still blinded from the flash, tears poking out from their corners from the stress the dial had caused. Yet he could easily pinpoint Saru in front of him and took advantage of what he assumed would be his foe letting his guard down before what he would assume to be a defenseless Hanuman.

Instead the protector thrust his staff in a smooth motion forward to the center of Saru's torso, as his fur exploded forwards, traveling along the weapon as a red cloth. Should Saru attempt to dodge to the side, the fur would attempt to entangle him and trap him.

You carry the power that traitor stole, and try to turn it upon Aolai itself? That is unforgivable!
Attack: island DPR

That is worrying.

I expect I shall have to intervene then, if it goes too far.

The Flash Dial, morphed onto the surface of the palm of Saru's hand, unleashed a vicious bright light, blinding Hanuman who looked right into the dial, wondering what was about to happen. Hanuman grunted, stumbled backward and squinted his eyes, to the point where a few tears gathered at the corners of his eyes. Such a sudden flash of light was indeed painful to the eyes, and Saru decided to exploit this opportunity, capitalizing on the fact that his foe was blinded and with his guard down. Saru leapt forward, intending on landing a decisive strike on Hanuman and teach him a lesson. Sasaki's eyes widened in surprise, shouting.

Wait! Saru-kun!

Sasaki shouted as Hanuman suddenly counterattacked. Despite his momentary blindness, Hanuman had perfect timing and placement of the attack, and the pommel of the staff slammed right into Saru's abdomen, sending him flying. After flying a few meters back, the Milky Dials on the bottom of his feet started to unleash Milky Clouds and Saru came to a sliding stop somewhere halfway inbetween Sasaki, standing on Zeus, and Hanuman. Busou-shoku no Haki started to fade from Saru's abdomen, followed by what looked like a slab of diamond receding back into his body. The diamond that Saru had eaten was used to defend against Hanuman's attack in the last moment.

Hanuman's DPR: 8. Island Level

Saru's Durability: 8. Island Level (diamond) + COA: +2 = 10. Large Country Level

DPR 2 or more below durability: Not very effective

With an annoyed scowl on his face, Saru shouted.

What an annoying monkey man!

Saru said, using monkey as an insult even though he, too, was partly of Humandrill heritage. By this point, the Flash Dial had receded back into Saru's body as well, and instead, two new Dials spawned on the palms of his hands. Saru pointed his hands up toward the sky, and the two Dials started to unleash a large number of Milky Balls. The strange white spheres filled the atmosphere, as many as a few dozen in number.

What these strange white spheres did was anyone's guess, but it looked like Saru was no slouch in battle. Unfortunately...

He won't win this fight.

Sasaki said, speaking of Saru. Zeus looked up at Sasaki with a concerned look on his face.

Should I go help him?

Zeus asked, Sasaki's eyes narrowing. He had a bad feeling.

Hanuman felt a solid impact as his staff made contact with his opponent's abdomen, sending him flying backwards. His fur retracted as he fell into a prowling position, staff held lightly before him, both as a guard and ready to strike. And although his fur had retracted, it remained longer than before, waving both with and against the wind, as if it both embraced and rejected the nature around itself. A low, deep growl escaped the humandrill's throat. His eyes looked out into emptiness, but his entire body was poised and ready to strike, feeling the minuscule movements of the air and foes.

As he stood there stationary, not having moved from his initial position, Hanuman felt the orbs created by Saru litter the air around them. Although he could not feel exactly what was hidden within he could sense that they contained some sort of trap, varied between the different orbs. Not willing or bothered to deal with its surprises, he immediately slid the staff through his palm, gripping it just before it escaped his grip. Clenching the tip of the staff he swung it around his body clockwise. In doing so he created a sort of mini tornado centered on himself, pushing outwards in all directions. Should any of the orbs come close to the protector, they would be repelled away with great force.

I shall inquire with this Sasaki if he is who he claims.

Very well.

It is past time that I listened too.

A stream of wind washed over Sasaki, carrying words of a voice that should be recognizable to him. Brahma's voice spoke directly to him, though sounding distant as the wind had carried his speech far.

Sasaki, is that truly you? Another gust came in, carrying more words. Would the former protector of Aolai truly allow an attack on its current protector?

The winds started coiling around Sasaki, not threatening yet, but still letting him know this was not his domain. Prove to me that you are who they say.

Surely a secret I would know, whispered to my winds, would be acceptable.

The mysterious white spheres riddled the area, surrounding Hanuman from all sides, but not closing in on him. Sasaki and Zeus continued to observe, the latter asking if he should help - but the former seemed preoccupied with something else, not answering. It was as if Sasaki could feel that something was coming.

Hanuman slid his grip down the staff, grabbing it by the end of it to maximize leverage - a true master of his weapon. From there, Hanuman swung it with great force, unleashing a massive spinning gale of wind, akin to a tornado. The powerful wind pulled the white spheres in, before spinning them around and then sending them flying far, far away. Saru watched his white spheres fly off into the horizon, gritting his spiky teeth in annoyance.

God damn it...

Saru said, irritated by his foe's abilities.

This was not what Sasaki had felt coming. This fast not what had concerned him. It was what came next. A soft wind blew by Sasaki, and it carried a voice.

Sasaki, is that truly you?
Sasaki's eyes narrowed, and he immediately dropped down into a kneeling position - still riding atop Zeus.

Brahma-sama, is that you? Thank god you are safe...!

Sasaki said, a tone of relief in his voice. Zeus could not hear Brahma's voice, so Sasaki's answer came out of nowhere, and confused the unsuspecting thundercloud.

Sasaki continued, explaining his situation.

I come here from a time long... long ago. I was sent here by Lady Yoshitsune.

Sasaki said. The mention of that name, alone, would prove his identity.

Brahma-sama... we need to speak with Vishnu-sama, Shiva-sama and Durga-sama...

I have come here with dire news.

Aolai Campaign #7 @Kaka

Hanuman sensed the presence of Brahma bearing down on them, seeking out Sasaki. It did however come to his surprise that Brahma reached out, almost friendly, to this man who brought violence and silence to Aolai. Yet as his color of observation was reaching out through the air he was able to hear what the guardian said. Former protector? Pieces started to fall into place, the name coming into familiarity.

Saru was only still absently in Hanuman's mind, instead the protector realized who this man was claiming to be. Centuries before The Betrayal, and Hanuman's ascencion to replace Rama after his death, Rama had stepped up when Aolai's former protector, Sasaki had left the land for reasons the elders no longer spoke of. He knew that unlike the rest of the humandrills on the sky island, Sasaki had been half human. The man before him fit this description, but how?

I come here from a time long... long ago. I was sent here by Lady Yoshitsune.
This was a name Hanuman had only heard whispered, its imprint on his mind so vague he did not know who she had been or when.

Hanuman's eyesight starting to return, he sought out Sasaki, pointing his staff toward his self declared predecessor.
Are you truly he?

Hanuman's question would likely not be answered as wind started to increase around Sasaki, then Hanuman and Saru too. Soon the air spun around each one of them with intensity that far surpassed the force Hanuman himself had expended earlier. Should Sasaki attempt the same technique as before, the holes he created in the twisters would simply wash over themself and seal it up. Yet despite the force that surrounded them, it was a gentle touch that would seek to life Hanuman and the tree intruders higher in the air and propel them rapidly across the land.

I will bring you before us. Brahma's voice boomed around them all, a hint of sadness fell upon him as he continued. Those of us that remain.

Below them the lush lands went past them at intense speeds. Hanuman knew where they were headed, and although he disapproved of bringing this man there, he would hold his tongue against the decision of one of the three guardians.

Brahma's winds, carrying his voice, surrounded them all - Sasaki with Zeus, Saru, and Hanuman himself. Upon hearing Brahma's voice, as well as what was spoken between him and Sasaki, Hanuman finally opened his eyes. His vision was likely still blurry and flashy, but he could see silhouettes for now. Sideeffects that would likely fully cease in the following moments. Hanuman asked Sasaki if he was truly him, and Sasaki nodded, likely reassuring Hanuman and calming him down. Perhaps he disagreed with Sasaki being brought in, but at this point in time, Brahma was resolute, and Hanuman would have no choice but to respect the Guardian's decision. Sasaki mounted his Monkey King's staff back on his back, and stood up, looking down at Zeus.

Alright, Zeus-kun... just go with the flow now. Brahma-sama will bring us in.

Sasaki said, before motioning toward Saru.

Oi, Saru-kun, get over here as well!

Sasaki said. Saru, with a confused look on his face, pushed off of the Milky Clouds and landed on Zeus, next to Sasaki.

The hell is going on with this weird place...

Saru said, mostly to himself, though outloud. He had no idea what in the world was going on, or what this place was. Sasaki was ready to be brought in, and face the Guardians.

Aolai Campaign #8 @Kaka

The small group soared across the land, verdant fields, ancient forests, wild rivers and vast lakes passed below. The view was however partially distorted by the winds surging around them, making it difficult to make out any details. Several mountains and objects stood high in the air, yet they did not reach up to the heights Hanuman and the others were flying. Ahead of them however a green mass rose far higher than all others, above even them. As they drew closer it would become clear that it was two large twin trees, its trunks mirrored one another from the ground all the way up.

As they approached, the group started to slow as well as descend, before finally landing below the shade cast by the leaves above. The twisters dispersed, allowing them to touch down safely on the stone path leading up toward the center between the two trees. Hanuman looked to the three others, then proceeded to climb the incline. Come, the guardians seem to wish to speak with you.

Regardless of whether or not Sasaki and the rest followed, other humandrills would appear to gawk at them from the sidelines. Several of them carried weapons, but none made a move to interfere. Should they decide to follow, the climb would take several minutes, though if they tried to talk to Hanuman he would likely not respond. He was a reluctant guide, he did not approve of the outsiders gaining access to his deities like this.

After a while the ground would level out, the stone path widening to a wide plaza, with the trees on either side. Four giant thrones stood arrayed at the far end, two up against each tree. In the leftmost one sat Brahma, red hair and beard adorned his head, with skin the color of stone, ceremonial garb of black and gold accented his shoulders and waist. Opposite to him was Vishnu, the fur brown and hair dark, garb red and gold garb. Next to Shiva sat Vishnu, golden fur and garb similar to Vishnu, but more ornate. They all sat unmoving, eyes locked on Sasaki. Even seated as they were, the three humandrills were the size of great giants.

The throne between Shiva and Brahma stood empty, a great loss apparent even to those that knew nothing about Aolai.

It would seem he is who he claims. Brahma said.

At long last. Shiva said.

Have you completed your task? Vishnu asked.

The mightily powerful, yet harmlessly gentle gale carried Hanuman and the rest across the lands of Aolai. High up above, to the point where the lands below spanned far and wide for everyone to see. No details were seen, for the speed at which they were travelling bent their visual perception, but one thing was clear. Aolai was absolutely titanic in size.

Before long, the group arrived at a scene in front of two trees, enormous in size. At the treetops, the two trees fused into one, forming the Great Tree of Aolai - Sasaki knew it well. The gale carried them below, leaving them before an incline that they had to climb. Hanuman, not speaking to the rest, started the climb. He was clearly not happy that Sasaki and the group have been invited to come here. But, Hanuman's tantrum did not bother Sasaki. It was natural. Zeus carried Saski and Saru, and the trio flew behind Hanuman, having no trouble with the climb. Flying around on a personal cloud made things much easier than walking, naturally.

The climb took a while, but sooner than later, the group reached the top, where a large, flat plane spanned in front of them. A distance away was the Great Tree of Aolai, piercing high up into the air, standing grand. In front of the scenery of the grand tree, were four enormous thrones. Three were occupied, whereas one was vacant. This caught Sasaki's eye immediately. The other three thrones were occupied by three Guardian Deities of Aolai - the rulers of this land in the sky. Hanuman, followed by Sasaki, Saru and Zeus, approached, until they were but a good hundred meters away - a relatively small distance, given the sizes of the tree, the thrones, and the three deities. Sasaki jumped off of Zeus and took a few steps forward, while Zeus remained behind, with Saru sitting down crosslegged on top of Zeus.

Sasaki dropped down to one knee, bowing his head. With a loud and proud voice he spoke.

Brahma-sama... Shiva-sama... Vishnu-sama... Allow me to express my relief. It is good to see you all.

Sasaki said, before standing up and pointing out the obvious.

Where is Durga-sama?

Sasaki asked, a look of concern on his face. Zeus and Saru looked at one another, feeling completely out of the loop.

Aolai Campaign #9 @Kaka

The three great humandrills watched as Sasaki fell to his knees, expressing his joy of their reunion. They said nothing while he spoke, though they did exchange silent looks. Vishnu waited until their old... friend finished speaking, then leaned forward, the air crackling with electricity as they moved. His voice was deep and thundering, booming across the plaza.

The former protector avoids the question of a guardian, preferring to question them instead. Vishnu scoffed, leaning back again.

He has earned the right to ask this question. Brahma said, looking over at Vishnu.

Durga is dead. Shiva said, a sense of sadness found in their stoic voice.

It happened several centuries after your departure. Brahma continued, Vishnu silenced for now. Your successor, Rama had held his position since soon after you left. However, a younger humandrill called Svahi rose to prominence. He showed great promise, and demanded he should be the one to defend Aolai in Rama's stead. He garnered a lot of attention and many followers, yet we were not impressed by his... tendencies. He was violent, he was narcissistic and arrogant.

He did not accept the refusal, instead he saw it as a challenge. Shiva spoke up, interrupting Brahma. Svahi challenged Rama for his position, who refused him, arguing that Aolaians should not squabble among themselves. As you may expect, Svahi once more did not accept the refusal, and struck down Rama, killing him.

Durga learned of his actions first. Vishnu spoke up again. Once hearing that Svahi had killed Rama, Durga brought their wrath down on him. Yet it was not enough, although they managed to seal away many of his followers. Somehow Svahi was able to kill Durga, then steal their power for himself.

It was only through the combined power of the three of us that we managed to cast out Svahi and the rest of his followers. Brahma said, looking resigned. My winds did the final push, throwing them off the lands. Shiva then moved Aolai to our current position with their own powers, while Vishnu's power casts a veil of electricity over Aolai, hiding it from the senses of outsiders, so we cannot be easily found again. You probably felt it when you arrived, and still feel it.

We were worried that you were him, come back for revenge.
Shiva said, a hint of worry in his voice. None others have been able to strike a mortal blow to any guardian before.

Vishnu leaned forward in his throne, as if he was about to stand up. The air crackled around him and his booming voice was heard far and wide. Vishnu remarked that he had posed a question, and that Sasaki should have answered it before posing his own question. However, before things escalated, Vishnu leaned back into his throne, and Brahma said that Sasaki had earned his right to ask such a question. Indeed, Sasaki was not being disrespectful. The unusualness and severity of a vacant throne and an absence of one of the Guardians, was so big that Vishnu's first question did not even register with Sasaki. All he could see was the empty throne.

Out of nowhere, Shiva answered. Durga is dead.

Wh-! What?! Impossible!

Sasaki said with a shocked look in his eyes, in disbelief of what he had just heard. The Guardians then went on to explain what had happened in Sasaki's absence. The story of Rama, Svahi, and the death of Durga. A great turmoil within Aolai, caused by a defector. Svahi had been banished from Aolai, but in fear of his vengeful return, Aolai had been moved and secluded in the great heights. To this day, they fear his return.

All of this grief and suffering... because of my absence. Lady Yoshitsune... did we make a mistake?

Sasaki said regretfully, clenching his fists and gritting his teeth. Sasaki looked up at the Guardians, finally answering the question.

My mission... goes on.

Sasaki said. He had not yet completed it. The mission that had sent him to here and now. A great premonition... the destruction of Aolai, at the hands of La Spada. Yet, it seemed that now, a threat equally as great loomed, and it went by the name of Svahi.
