Looking back at this scene, why is it that an experienced and skilled fighter freaks out in this manner to someone blowing an explosion at him? Was he genuinely afraid of an explosion?

Wink wink, it's not because of the explosion. It's what made the firing off of the explosion possible, namely the elasticity of bamboo which itself was hardened. The fact that Vergo can combine elasticity with armament makes it that much stronger as the added combination of the hardness and the elasticity makes it tougher. As opposed to steel that easily snaps when you apply enough force, if you have a higher elastic limit for your material you will need that much more force to break through as it can better absorb the impact. Vergo's bamboo is both extremely hard ("sturdier than steel (as in sturdier than retconned Mr.1) as it says in the VC) but combined with the ductility/elasticity means that this is an very resiliant material that can resist blunt force deformation extremely well. Only way you break through his bamboo is by cutting it which you can only do if your armament is harder (CHOU KOUKU) or by having Law's 5 billion berry hax ability.

This is the next level of armament hardening, hence why Smoker freaked out. Vergo has as of yet been the only one to display this combination. Luffy who is rubber makes use of the combination of hardening and compressability of his rubber which adds to his tensional force, but reason why he is more durable is because this combination of hardening and elasticity makes him much stiffer. Vergo has mastered the first level of armament so well that he can combine hardening with elasticity to make his bamboo into a resiliant and tough material on top of already being very hard. Smoker had every reason to fear what he was up against.

GIve it up to the right hand man of the future PK who will come back with a vengeance :thonkcool:

In a manga where the MC is the elastic man, elasticity will not be a PU!

Luffy Just used his DF + COA, which has nothing to do with another level of COA.

Lol if his CoA was that advanced he would not get snapped in half and barbecued by Law. I loved Vergo but face the music will ya, all he is now is a big lump of charcoal.

It’s not the same as Luffy’s core is rubber which is soft, while Vergo’s core is bamboo (a fairly hard material in fact) which combined with haki on top makes his core hard; Luffy’s core is soft. It’s like comparing rubber to collagen, where both are elastic, but collagen is not (and shouldn’t be) as elastic as rubber, being that it is a protein that is responsible for maintaining the structural integrity of your body such as your skin, bones and muscle, blood vessels etc. Rubber is super stretchy and soft, but that makes it weak and not suitable as a connective and supportive constituent like collagen. Hope that clarifies it

And actually being “elastic” and elasticity are two different things (semantically speaking) as in a scientific sense, elasticity is defined as how much force you need to apply to induce a change in the material. Steel is by that definition more elastic than rubber as it resists change better and comes back faster to it’s original shape when the force is removed. Luffy’s rubber is soft (and if you apply enough force you can actually break the rubber bones like Cracker did with his shield, like Sanji did with his kick, like Ulti did with her headbutt etc). If you have a hard core and you make it more elastic it just makes it tougher

Yeah ok so if Law can cut seastone, what does that imply about him going full island size? Do you really say Luffy and Zoro would imbue themselves and not be cut? Lol, how did Smoker with weaker armament avoid being cut? By deflecting the attack coming from the sword with his haki. So do you see how your argument falls apart there? Law's cutting power comes from his sword, and the only way to avoid his cut is to deflect the sword with haki. Smoker and everyone would be cut up if you took the slash head on. You preemtively redirect the slash by redirecting the sword. That's the only way lol and its a pretty tiring argument to make at this point

And Katakuri's durabiltiy and strength is fucking trash as Oven is portrayed as much more durable (he is the only one who inherited the steel durability of Big Mom), and with him breathing heavy after Sanji's base kick (throbbing in the manga) he is a fucking weakling, and Kata's hardened block being bested by DD on the worst day in his life. -->

Here Kuri prepares a block with Block Mochi and a battle stance well in advance, yet gets washed

DD is mortally wounded and does better than Katakuri. Even Fujitora get pushed back by G3 and go bruised up from that. DD didn't take any damage from the punch but from the fall and the deccelration when he hits the bedrock and crashes through buildings. Katakuri would get knocked out from that lol. Doffy does better than a fucking admiral after having his innards scrambled up from Law's very most lethal attack

Katakuri doesn't have even fucking Sanji's AP lol as Sanji is confirmed to have broken Luffy's skull

(See the sfx of the cross and a hashtag like sign when he kicks his head, that means something gets broken). You can see the same sfx when Big Mom gets her head cracked by Queen, Ulti cracks Luffy's skull, Sanji breaks Oevn's collarbone -- and Vergo breaking Sanji's fibula.

Sanji was perfectly healthy btw (see Sanji bluewalking at 5000m water pressure > >> effects of explosion that Usopp survives from and has no visible impairments from despite being a normal human). Vergo trashed Sanji and was unaffected by his DJ. Same DJ that cracked Luffy's skull, Vergo was fine from that
