I'll put my hand up and say I haven't played a single one as of yet

Though will be changing that soon
If you like turn based RPGs with cool stories sou should change soon.

I wasted 100s of hours playing Final Fantasy and don't regret a single minute of it xD

Imo I never played the VII, being the youngest I would take a great pleasure watching my older bros playing it.
Crisis Core made me rediscover it.

FFIV was a must on Game Boy with Golden Sun.
I replayed it on Psp what a game !

FFXIII had the charismatic Lightning.

Dissidia gave me the basic knowledge about the ones I didn’t touch.

Did you just play the game or do you also try to solve every sidequest?
And you didn't play 10?
I play any side quest i find/explore (zelda majora mask was very good example of side/quest world felt alive) Even ff7-9 talked more with npc to see if they gave any sidequest etc.

I have played final fantasy 10 (but did not really find it great like others)

I tried ff12 (stopped in the starting area..it felt to empty and blocky( layout) horrible.. plus there was nothing to find. (where click on bookcase, areas looking for secrets like ff7-8-9) clickable stuff. etc

I loved the ultoímate bosses. Only mange to beat Emerald and Ruby through hours of training in FF7. Omega in FF8 was a pain and actually only managed to beat him with cheap tricks. Yadis was actually the biggest disappointment for me in FF9... far too easy...

I really loved that one was able to play with bestia and I also liked the new invented lvl system. Also the Black Bestia gave me back what I missed in 9.

ultimate weapons destroyed me lol, when first tried fighting them. But went to the submarine (bottom of ocean) to train/level my characters. lot good xp, which also helped materia xp (then went to cave, near end game to fight monster there for more xp)

I remember getting cloud weapon.

As for ff9 boss, the side ones.. i got destroyed (plus was lazy with leveling) the chocobo raising was fun, liked the mini games/exploration for treasure as it leveled. to unlock gold chocobo. compared to ff7 method.

ff10, story was ok. like the start of story where shows he sent in future etc, coming to terms he not in the past.. though i feel the danger/aspect was weak...i don't know start was intriguing, but then lost interest half way.

I have played half of the games listed here but I have never beat any of the Final Fantasy games and I'm not good in those games. My favorite are 8 and 6.

FF1 - This was the hardest for me and I didn't even get far in the game. I quit the game when I got to the first boss and couldn't beat him.

FF2 - Another one of the hard games for me. I don't remember how far I got in the game but I do remember I was close to the endgame.

FF5 - I managed to get all the way to the final boss Neo Exdeath I think that was his name. I couldn't beat him and I just ended up giving up.

FF6 - One of my favorites and I managed to get to Kefka's Castle. I got stuck on one of the beast boss in the castle and I never finished the game.

FF8 - This was also one of my favorite and it was hard. I had to make a new file 3. First time I played I was way too dependent on the Guardians helping me with battles and by the time I got to Adel I couldn't even beat her with the help of Guardians and I had to start a new file. My second run through I got all the way to lvl 100 but afterwards I learned the bosses and monsters also level up with you and also become stronger and again I couldn't beat Adel. Made a new file for the 3rd time without having to grind so much and this time I worked alot on making my attacks stronger and I caught most of the secret guardians. I also had to buy alot of potions and it took around a month or 2 months for me to make alot of currency to buy around 50 potions for my fight against Adel which I managed to beat. I still never got a chance to finish the game afterwards since I got stuck on the final boss Ultimecia.

FF10 - I don't have a PS2 and I only played this game for around 2 hours at my sister's ex boyfriend's house. I beat the first boss and this was how far I was able to get for around 2 hours or maybe less.

FF13 - I liked the graphics but it was full of action and it was not a game where you can explore freely like in other Final Fantasy games. I got stuck battling Barthandelus 3rd battle near the ending and I gave up.

My opinion about the Games:

Even so FFIX dissappointed me with an easy world boss I would say it is favourite, because of the awesome story.

FFVII was a great game in every aspect cool story and hard sidequests.

I really Loved the World of FFX and the new changes. You had to get used to the new lvl system, but once ypu get used to it you will love it xD. Some sidequest were a real pain(avoiding thunders....) and it took 300h to be finaly able to beat Black Bahamutv(Black Anima, Black Magus Trio, Richter and Deus only with Yojinbo...)

Final Fantasy VI is great even if it is just in 2D game developed for SNES it is no way inferior to the games published afterwards. Cool story with many great sidequests.

FVIII has a great story, but never became a fan of the draw and bind system of magic.
Omega Weapon was auch a great Ultimate Boss and Triple Triad was funny cardgame which I could play for hours. But one Thing I will definetly never forget, the GF boost battles I had with my best friend xD

X-2 was ok, but I lost fun quite fast. I really don't like that you have to repeat the Story again and again to get stronger. And the ultimate Boss didn't even get close to what you got in FFX. (Also hated Blitzball 2.0...)

FIV and FFV have great stories nothing more to say.

The stories of FFI, FFII and FFIII were in my opinion not as touching as the Stories of the games published afterwards.

Never played FFXI, because I was Not interisted in FF MMO.

FFXII was the last I tried, but I really didn't like the new system. So I never buyed and played on my own. The new Bestia looked great but the story was meh.

Don't know anything about XIII++

Was thinking of purchasing the 2 actual physical copies of Final Fantasy for the Switch

But if they turn out like Xenoblade 2, then it will be money down the drain so might wait till the Final Fantasy remake when I get the PS5

What a Great thread. @Nessos !!
My first Final Fantasy is 9 and it's also my first official RPG game.
The fun the story is really engaging, just level up and killing lots of bosses is cool.
After that I played Chrono Trigger witch is my favorite.
Final Fantasy 6 is my second FF game and my favorite Final Fantasy. Everything for me is perfect, the sound track the fights and bosses are challenging. And Kefka is Awesome.

I'm currently Final Fantasy 7, since the remake is out I really want to play the original, and it's been a long time since I played FF6.
So far its been a fun experience and very good story. I'm still on Disk 1, I just manged to obtain Aerith Great Gospel Limit Break. I plan now to level up my characters more and get there limit breaks. Also I find FF7 much easier than the 6, using limit breaks makes the fights so much easier lol.

You should play XIV Derfel. The Kefka fight is awesome in that. The Savage version even has God Kefka as a phase.
