Santiago Bill takes the Questionaire!
This is an example compilation post. When i started with this character i answered all the questions that were out at the same time and posted them
here. Then i collected all the later answers and quoted them under their respective questions.
1. "Which actor would you want your character to be played by?"
He is based on Ernest Hemingway, but he´s dead, so i think Jeff Bridges could do it.
2. "What is your characters favourite island/place?
"I've spent a lot of time in Mock Town on Jaya. I feel at home in any place with a seedy bar, really."
3. "If your character found a genie that offered three wishes, what would those wishes be?"
"-A bar of me own
-To become a small legend. Or nah, I'd rather do that meself. I'll take unlimited booze instead.
-A reel of unbreakable Fishing twine, so i can reel in the big 'uns."
4. "What is your Characters Mother like? Is she still alive?"
5. "What is your Characters Father like? Is he still alive?"
"I ain't got parents. Twas the sea what raised me."
6. "How does your character sleep? Where do they sleep the best and in what position?"
"I just doze off in this folding chair. Always keepin' an eye open on the fishing lines and the valuable alcohol. When yer the ships cook you also gotta watch the pantry. When I was in the Navy, always was something to do around the clock, so I just sneaks some shuteye whenever I can."
7. "What would your characters job be in this world?"
"I´m the saltiest seaman ye've ev'r seen, and when I'm not saltin' ye can prolly find me behind a bar. I wants do do a course so's I can lern those fancy mixins what looks like a fruit salad fucked a sunrise. Put those tiny umbrellas inna beer and people just laugh at you."
8. This week there are multiple questions, geared towards the different factions: (You can also answer these Questions in Character)
For Pirates: "What made you become a pirate?"
For Revolutionaries: "When the Revolution is successful, what do you want the world to look like?"
For Marines: "Why are you stupid?"Jk, its "What is your Justice like? Do you support the tenryubito?"
These all basically boil down to: "Why are you doing what you are doing?", but you can get more specific for each faction. Non-Trinary Characters (Underground, other) can just answer that question.
"I was just a sailor for hire, I sail'd with whoever would pay me. Even tha Navy. Event'ally a diff'rence of opinion with a commisioned officer led to me bein' discharged and court martialled. He said I'd tried to poison him. Humbug. There was times I would have been grateful for a nice handful of maggots like that.
Ev'r since, op'rating within the confines of the Law got a lot harder, so piracy is one of my few remaining revenue streams."
9. "What is your Characters favourite plant?"
"I´m a big fan of Hop and Barley. I'm also quite partial to derivatives of the agave. Cheers!"
10. "If your characters crew were a family, what would your characters role be?"
"I got a girl in ev'ry harbour, so it stands to reason I'd have some kids. I'm more the uncle type, tho."
11."In Poker, what would your characters tell be? Do they have a good pokerface?"
"My left asscheek gets a bit itchy whenever I have a good hand. But it also itches whenever someone wants to pull one over me. I ain't gettin' tricked that easy."
12.This weeks Question is actually an online buzzfeed quiz.
Which "Friend" is your Character?
"I ain't know this Chandler, but he seems like a swell dude."
13."Describe your character in five words or less."
Old Man and the Sea.
14."What is your Characters favourite ice cream flavor?"
Salted Caramel Liquorice Root Beer Float.
15."How similar is your characters personality to your own? Are there any major differences or are they completely unrelated?"
We are basically the same person. Literally the only difference between us two is that i don´t capitalize the "i" when talking about myself, and i´ve used different apostrophe keys for each of us. i´m vs I'm.
"Humbug, I ain't anything like that landlubber."
16."What would be the worst devil fruit for your character to have, thematically or power wise?"
"I ain't much of an artist, so those paintin' fruits are worthless to me. I much prefer bein' able to swim."
17."If your character were to compete in the Olympics, what would be their discipline?
"I got a mean trowing arm, so I'd crush the javelin throwing competition. My best discipline would be curling, though. I spent decades slidin' drinks over wet bar counters."
18."Your crew is eating in a restaurant, and the waiter brought your character the wrong food. What do they do?"
"I ain't gonna let this food go to waste. I wasn't gonna pay anyway, so it don't matter either way."
These two questions were written by
@Oreki and
@joby, but have retroactively been officially classified as Magikarp Questions by me
here. They are Questions -1 and 0, respectively.
-1.Orekis Question:
Btw.. which tarot card resemble your character
Read here about em: [Link no longer active, go find your own list]
"What is this? Are you trying to curse me? The World? That card better not curse me to carry the weight of the world on my shoulders."
*Spits over his shoulder to ward off bad luck*
"I ain't doing that again."
0.Jobys Question:
This actually kinda brings up a fun topic!
what are people’s inspirations for aspects of their characters? Are there any specific characters or historical figures that you find yourself either directly inspired by or maybe have similarities to other characters or people you like that you have recognized after writing your character for a while?
Bill has been inspired by the life and times of Ernest Hemingway, the character Santiago in his book "The Old Man and the Sea", the bartender in Mock Town on Jaya and the bartender in the fourth One Piece Movie "Dead End Adventure".
19."Your crew has visited an island with a zombie apocalypse. Your Character has been bitten. Do they tell the others about the zombie bite?"
"Mateys, I been bitten. The curse of the walking dead will take me. Give me a gun and some dynamite, I'll buy ye some time."
*An explosion can be heard in the distance. A few days later he heroically swoops back in to save the day*
"What, ye think that could kill me?"
20."Your character has won a difficult fight, but the marines/newspapers give the credit to somebody else, a.) From the same faction, or b.) From the opposite faction. How do they react?"
A.) "Mateys, I got a reputation to defend. We'll hunt those scallywags down for daring to steal my credit!"
B.) "Ah, that be understandable. Navy can't just credit a pirate like yours truly."
21."Someone gave your character a video den den mushi number to call to see something that would be of interest to them, like a weapons demonstration on punk hazard maybe. But instead, all they recieve is This. How do they react?" Note: This was originally a rick roll.
"Wahaha, this be better than what I expected."
22."What is your characters favourite song/music genre?"
"I'm partial to sea shanties. Anything you can sing to the tune of the waves or the swaying of a group of drunkards."
23."What would your characters Nen type be? What would their ability be like?"
Emitter-Enhancer
24."Your character and their crew go trick or treating. What costumes do they wear?"
"What is your character's greatest fear?"
"Aye mateys. It be the Eve of all Hallows. Put on your masks, for today the spirits rise out of their watery graves. Wear the guise of a ghoul so they think you one of their numbers, lest the men you killed recognize you and exact their revenge. The spirits revenge is a most frightening thing. They will tattle your location to your ex wives and you have to pay alimony!"
25. What is something you know about your character that they themselves dont?"
"What is something that you dont know about your character?"
Honestly, not much. I don´t even know which of the stories he tells are true or just some yarn he´s spinning.
26."If your character had a stand, what would it be called?"
"What would the stands abilities be?"
The Dubliners
The stand manifests as a pistol and a rapier. The pistol shoots water, and when he stabs you with the rapier he can steal stuff from you. He has to recharge the stand by drinking Whiskey from a Jar. The more he drinks the stronger it is.
27."What would your characters favourite/most similar Pokemon be?"
"What would their type be?"
"Aye, I'm a big fan of Empoleon. Home on the high seas and hard as steel like me."
28."A reporter approaches your character and wants to interview them for Morgans Newspaper. How do they react? Do they want the attention? Do they have a message for the world?"
"The interviewer asks questions from the Magikarp Questionaire, the ones that are possible within the one piece world at least. He then give your PC the chance to add a question to the list to be asked of all the other bigshots in the world. What question do they add?"
"You got some time, lad? I could tell you tales what make your spine tingle. I once met this sea witch..."
"Aye, you could ask them what their favourite bars are. I remember when ev'rybody knew which bars were the best. Todays drunkards barely even know which one they are in. Back in the day the most famous bar was The Golden Tankard on...."
"Oi, you've been writing this down, have ye?"
29."What is the reason for your Characters name? Does it mean something?"
"If your character had been the opposite gender, what name would their parents have given them? For example, Portgas D. Ace would have been named "Ann" had he been a girl."
"I gave meself the name Bill. T'was the first word I said. Lucky I didn't say "Tab". "Last Call" woulda been a strong name, though. I was in Santiago's bar at the time, so i took that name as well."
Out of character: Bills first name was chosen at random, but his main weapon is a taxidermied Swordfish/Marlin. Swordfish and Spearfish/Marlins are part of the
Billfish group, which i did not know when i named him Bill and decided his MA would be Spearfishing.
Santiago is just the name of the Old Man in "Old Man and the Sea" by Ernest Hemingway.
30."Does/Did your character believe in Santa?"
"What do they want for Christmas?"
"Yes, I've run into Santa a few times and survived quite a few cold nights due to the coal I got from him. When I was a tyke I was extra nice for a whole week before christmas and got a shiny new fishing rod for it."
31.So to honor this 4th of July, when we were saved from the alien menace by a true American Hero, Jeff Goldblum, here is a question about patriotism:
"What country would you character be from?"
International waters might be the best fit for him. He grew up around all kinds of people, which is why his accent can range from southern plantation owner to London street chav.
"Oi, I be a-fixin' to bash yer head in, mate. Ye done forgot the heavy pirate accent, matey!"
But his chosen home would be Cuba.
32.This week it's all about Dungeons and Dragons:
"What is your characters alignment on the dnd alignment chart?"
"What class would your character be in dnd?"
"I'm a lover and a Fighter, and very chaotic neutral, matey!"
Sometimes Bill reminds me of @Gambit, which is very fitting because he is an old man.
33. This week we have a weirder question:
"If Doctor Hogback were to try to put together a zombie chimera made out of the strongest/best parts of the worlds strongest people, only one body part from each, which part of your PC would he want to use? For example the Finger of the worlds best Shigan user. (Disregarding Stats of course.)"
The twist of season two was two questions per week, in season three the questions just get a bit weirder sometimes.
"Aye, that Doktor Hogwash came to me one day, said he´'d pay me good money to pilfer me corpse after I keel over. Said 'e wanted me liver. I told 'im to get bent, that sod. Nobody disturbs me final sleep. 'S what gets you ghosts."
34. This week its a simple question:
"Your Character is about to be executed, what are their last words?"
35. This week its a slightly unorthodox question, not really related to your own PC:
"Which PC from another player would you like to play as for a day/event?"
36. This week, a standard question:
"If your character wasn´t in their current faction, which one would they be in instead?"
Bill would be a Revolutionary or a Bounty Hunter. He´s done both before, really depends on what day of the week you meet him.
Especially since Bill was originally made to be a stand in character for Yasashí in an event, I'd play him as a revolutionary, with him continuing to bounty hunt in his free time.
37. This week, a short question
"In the gacha game "One Piece Treasure Cruise, character units have a single type (STR(ength), DEX(terity), QCK, INT(elligence), PSY) and two categories (Cerebral, Driven, Fighter, Free Spirit, Powerhouse, Shooter, Slasher, Striker).
What type and category combinations would your character have? And if you are familiar with gacha game mechanics, what kinds of skills would they have as a gacha unit (buffs, damage, debuffs, etc.)?"
STR Powerhouse/Free Spirit all the way, straight damage dealer. But there will be a version in the future that can switch to QCK type. Switching gives himself an attack boost, and then his special removes all enemy defense buffs.
38. This week, It's quiz time:
"It's bar trivia night and your crew got challenged!
Does your character play? What kind of categories would they be most knowledgeable about? What would they not know anything about?"
Ignoring the fact that as a lifelong Bartender all possible Bar Trivia answer sheets have been engraved into his lineage factor, Bill would be especially up to date on current happenings, as he reads the newspaper religiously. He also has a lot of knowlede about politics, and even more opinions. He's a RePUBlican*, har har.
Very good at geography. He could name all the streets in every harbour town he ever visited that have bars or brothels in them.
He doesn´t know much about science or devil fruits, believing them to be made up nonsense to explain unexplainable curses of the sea.
He also displays a surprising, maybe worrying lack of knowledge about fine dining, or cooking in general. Giving sailors with scurvy a few drops of lemon juice is his cooking stat at its most sophisticated. He is a great ships cook

.
*As opposed to a proponent of Absolute Monarchy. No relation to current day american Republicans. He´s more of a Communist.
39. This week, a fan requested question:
"What does your characters voice sound like? Who would their voice actor be?"
BRIAN BLESSED! having the time of his life with a pirate accent. Or just Garps voice actor.
40. This week, a more personal question:
"Who is your character most afraid of? Or for all those totally fearless types: Who is your character least unafraid of or most worried about?"
I been sailin' the seas me whole life, an' the worst ye can encounter is one of them dreaded Sea Witches what curse ye, chief among them that La Spada. I only hears the stories, but I'd sooner eat a thousand nails than find out if they was true.
Future Historians will note that this is the first evidence that "Sea Witch" and "Ex Wife" aren't synonymous in Bill's vocabulary.
41. This week, something fun:
"@Feltyrosa got your character (and herself?) with a depression ghost. What animal do they want to be reborn as?"
42. This week, something lore related:
"What does your character think the one piece is?"
43. This week, a Cross special edition:
"Which sports club(s) would your characters be fans of?"
The question initially came up when I was writing something for Bill while my internet was throttled. I didn't have access YouTube, so I dug out my old MP3 player to have music to listen to while writing. Usually I listen to a playlist of shanties while writing Bill, but the closest thing on that player was an album of Schalke 04 Fan Songs.
So now, by law, Bill is a Schalke fan.
He's also a fan of the Miami Marlins.
44. This week, because I care:
"What is your characters favourite Dinosaur?"
"Who're you callin' an old Dinosaur, eh? Anyway, I liked tha pet Ankylosaurus I had as a young lad."
45. This week, some Christmas Questions:
"How does your Character celebrate Christmas?
Do they give gifts to their crew mates and NPCs?"
46. Another topical set of questions:
"Does your character have any new years resolutions?
What are your ooc plans for your character this year?"
47. This week it's a reverse of the usual formula, it's all about you:
"What would your stats be like if you were a character in this rp? Which forms of haki would you have, etc?
What would your characters think about you?"
48. This Question was posted by
@lophole:
Speaking of which
IT'S TIME FOR MAGIKARP MONDAY!!!!
Today's question is, "What is your character's favorite breakfast food!"
"Aye, lad. A hearty breakfast be the foundation of yer day. A good pickled or soused herring sandwich can give ye the strength ya need for the hard life of a sailor."
49. This week, we better answer quietly, or big brother will notice us:
"Does your character believe in any conspiracy theories?
Are there any conspiracy theories about them?"
Bill:
"Aye, I believe. I believe them government spooks are full of crap! I knows the Cipher Pol assassinated King Ham F. Kennedy of the Ballywood Kingdom! An' I know why! To cover up them people from the Moon! I knows there is minks up there! And Elvis be still alive as well!"
50. For this week, Magikarp Questions Co. assures you that all submissions will be be handled with utmost care, and will not be abused:
"What does your characters autograph/signature look like?
Send your submissions with the next news coo to be delivered to our headquarters."
Bill's signature that he uses to sign contracts (like pirate charters) is just a stylized X, as if he were illiterate (even though he was modelled after a very accomplished author).
(I spend about an hour trying to upload this fucking picture to imgur. I converted it to PNG, I put a filter on it, I fave it to an AI to play with, nothing worked. Other image sharing sites I tried didn't work with the forum BB code thing. I had to upload it to my favorite
Image editing site for it to spit out something that looked alike but wasn't haunted. But now it has a watermark

.
He is going to create his own brand of high class alcohol in the future, though. Those bottles will be decorated with his autograph and a logo.
51. This week, all your signatures from last time were used to sign your characters up for a role in a "One Piece Academy" or "Koby ni no Kobiyama" type Spinoff:
"In a high school slice of life anime, what kind of role would your character play? Would they be one of the popular kids, or a member of the staff?"
Bill is definetely the Janitor that's been there at least since your parents went to school, who buys beer for the cool kids.
52. This week, to celebrate Pride Month

:
"What is your Character's sexual orientation?"
Bill is like spaghetti. Straight until he is wet. On land his main quarry are rich widows, but out on the ocean, its anything that moves.
A while ago @Einsauer described a meeting between Bill and his NPC as "Homoerotic subtext coming off these sailors." I would like to point out that Bill sees Johnny as more of a son, both because of the age difference and because he had an affair with Johnnys Father.
53. Its Bounty time this week:
"If your characters bounties were issued by the marines in the one piece universe*, what kind of references would there be within the numbers? Would it be a pun based on Goroawase, or a reference to something else?"
*as opposed to being issued based on the gamified system we have to use to keep a fair game.
Here is a collection of numbers that would fit Bill:
[6 4] Ryu Shi => Ryōshi (Fisherman)
[6 6 4] Ro Ryu Shi Ro Ryōshi (Old Fisherman)
[261] fu Ru I => furui (Old)
[461] yo pa rei => yopparai (drunkard)
[10 4 0 5 10] To Shi O I Ta => toshioita (Aging)
[969] Age of Methuselah (whose name means "Spear Thrower"), oldest man mentioned in the bible.
[3 2 0 6] Me Tu Ze Ra
His current bounty is 45 million. It could then for example be 46.164.000.
54. The anniversary of the Stonewall Riots is coming up (that's why June is Pride month), therefore:
"Does your character have any morals or beliefs that they are fighting for? Would they ever join a protest?"
Do not be deceived. This ↓ is not a real Magikarp Question. Do not give this man your banking information. Only give it to certified Magikarp Professionals!
55. Karp has fallen asleep early on a Monday, you know what that means gang!
Hosted by Einsauer
This Monday's question: Yes or no?
(Original Question by
@Einsauer)
56. Thie week it's a bundle of questions inspired more closely that usual by the SBS:
"What is your characters hygiene routine like?
Who cuts their hair, how often do they bathe, brush their teeth, etc.
If they have a devil fruit, do they take special precautions when bathing?"
57. This question has been on my mind for a while:
"What would your characters Smash Bros moveset be? (Or any other fighting game)
If they played a fighting game, who would they main?"
58. And since there was such a long stretch between questions:
"What do your characters do between islands? Especially when there are periods when they are inactive, how do they entertain themselves?"
59. I've seen this suggested as a writing exercise to get to know your characters better:
"What does your characters office/room look like? What is in their trash can?"
Bill's "office" is a small folding chair the Sweet Pirates kitchen. It's not the captains quarters, but it's nonetheless a seat of power. Everyone passes through the kitchen to eat, and Bill is right there having nice chats with all of the swabbies. He knows all their birthdays and alcohol tastes, and what they think about Captain Sweet Einsauer. Information and loyalties converge in that kitchen where Bill sits like a fat spider in its web.
The Sweet Pirates ship, the Cotton Blossom, doesn't have much cargo space for food and voyages are long, so Bill uses up every last scrap of food to get his crew to their destination. There are no leftovers or "inedible parts" in Bill's trash can, only the occasional broken bottle. What he cooks up isn't always the most appetizing, but it beats starvation.
There once was a sailor who refused to eat what was on his plate. A week later he was gone, and the food noticeable improved.
This wasn't Bill's fault, Gochi ate a guy and stopped raiding the fridge for a few days.
If the crew didn't already have a captain, Bill could direct it from his kitchen with a few nice suggestions and a couple of threats.
