As the paper tore, a final crackle of faulting energy whispered out while a light green mist emerged from within and vanished into the air. A small sight to behold, thought Genjo would likely be unable to see it properly due to the effects of the trap. The magical energy imbued into the paper seemed to be dispersed into the air, releasing the one paper's hold on the door. The boy's body went cold immediately after the tore the paper, he was shivering and his teeth were chattering. He had made a mistake and got caught by the trap the Jiangshi left for him.
-"D-D-Damn..."
As Shaarib's radiance took flight through the hall of the third floor, the vice admiral would find his disobedient (though loyal) ally, Genjo, struggling from the effects of the destroyed paper tag clutched in his icy hand.Shaarib did not hesitate, he had to go back to the third floor. He made a promise and with access to the 3 rd and second floors blocked. Shaarib could take a little pause. The Vice-Admiral flew back and illuminated the corridors.
Understanding Genjo's line-of-reasoning, Shaarib took a paper off of the doorway himself to experience the powerful mystical energy surge up his arm, though the cold would find no purchase on the phoenix-man.
Only three paper charms remained dangling from the doorway above the locked doors; with a fourth in Shaarib's own fiery hand, a destroyed fifth in Genjo's frosty grasp.
As Shaarib tried the door it noticeably budged, unlike the previous attempts; though it did not open. It seemed that the papers were indeed imbued with some sort of magic to seal the door (and also punish those who attempt to remove them) and that forcefully removing and tearing them was, indeed, a plausible way to disarm the enchantment.Shaarib kept walking until he arrived in front of a locked dorr with an ornament. With his wing, he went to cut the charm and was assaulted by the protection. A jolt went through the Vice-Admiral's body and he winced. (Normal Damage) He muttered an insult and looked again at the ceiling. Shaarib shook his head and went to open the door. Praying to find Yuki.
While Shaarib considered the state of his friend, the precarious state of Yuki, and the three remaining papers overhead; the two marines would both hear a BOOM resonating from their floor, the temple creaked in objection to the sudden impact.
A Jiangshi Devourer had bounced from the first floor all the way up to the empty gap that was once the staircase to the third floor. The heinous claws of the beast dug hard into the wood as it tried to yank itself up over the ledge...The wood gave away and the beast fell back into the dark abyss below.
From behind a second horrible noise replaced it...BOOM.
A Jiangshi Devourer, this one successful in its arrival to the third floor, clawed all the way up and began bounding around the hallways in search of Shaarib and Genjo (who would be out of view at the moment). The deep double-breaths of the monstrous Jiangshi filled the gloomy atmosphere, it was coming for them.
