Figarland Shanks was picked up by Roger during the end of God Valley while he was still a baby (he was take accidentally cause Shanks was inside a teasure box).

The panel Roger and Rayleigh reacted to Momo and Hiyori hints that Shanks was all the time in board. The Momo and Hiyori refer to 2 different ages.

Thats why I doubt Shanks ever moved to Mary Geosis to train with Garlin, especially not before Roger reached Laugh Tale.

My guess as of now. Roger told Shanks the truth at the day of his execution (the gift He have Shanks could have been "the truth about his origin").
And that this was the reason Shanks refused to go after One Piece.

And why Shanks just decided to make a move now?

Shanks was found on God Valley and Uta was found probably in the same way Roger found Shanks when he was robbing a tenryuubito ship (possibly ship belong to Figarland family?)

Possible, didn't watch Film Red tbh. I was more hyped for the canon notes in Volume 4 billion then in the movie itself
