Right in the middle of the new world lies a small island. To most factions this island holds barely any significance. It is too small to produce a worthwhile surplus of any kind of crop, it is too far away from any other island and surrounded by treacherous sandbanks and sharp rocks just below the waters surface to be of any worth as an outpost for trade or conquest and mining explorations tended to come back empty handed or not at all.

There was only one group of people interested in visiting this island: Musicians.
It's the only place in the whole new world where the Brever Tree (Meliodicae Reverbica) is growing in abundance. This tree is among instrument makers known as the best raw material for its special sound conductive properties.
For this reason, the best in their craft congregate in the small town on the island that since ancient times carries the name "Beat Island".
And of course where there are the best instruments the best musicians won't be far. It is every musicians dream to one day visit this small town and purchase an instrument from one of their renowned masters.
Upgrading to a genuine HarmonicWorks AxeHammer Electric Guitar is comparable in increased reputation and performance to a swordsman acquiring a high ranked meito grade sword.
There is however another, much more secret reason for many musicians to take on the pilgrimage to Beat Island. A rumor so enticingly unbelievable and yet so potentially momentous, that everyone of bardic inclination has heard of it, yet would never admit to believing it nor would they share this rumor with the melodically challenged for fear of being ridiculed.
The rumor goes that if you perform your music on the peak of Beat's Spiral Mountain, the whole New World will be able to hear you. Some tellings of this story sprinkle in a few more details for extra unbelievability, like it having to be midnight on a full moon or you having to appease a deaf mountain spirit with a song, which is generally agreed to be nonsense.
Most people living on the island are quick to point out that if this was true, the people of the new world wouldn't ever get a good nights sleep, and that on top of the mountain the only thing you'd find would be an old man, who admittedly is deaf, but not a spirit yet.
Those that are not convinced by this and try to ascend the mountain often don't make it back because they immediately are met with an abundance of traps that start about halfway up the spiral and stretch up to the top, where the most determined adventurers are met with an old man that really appreciates his privacy.
Right next to his house is a cliff overlooking the harbour, and many men have attempted to learn how to swim in about 15 seconds after meeting him.

There have been a few who were lucky enough to find him in an amicable mood so that they could disprove the rumors themselves. Upon return they would attest that they performed, and obviously they were not heard all over the new world, but they still seemed different, like they experienced something mind-blowing. They often found that they had significantly improved as musicians after this experience.

Yasashī te Dō stepped out of a HarmonicWorks workshop and gave his new flute weapon a few experimental swings. It was perfectly balanced. He tested the flute part and was pleasantly surprised how soft it sounded. He knew, though, that it could produce much harsher sounds if necessary.

His primary goal achieved he decided to get some information about the rumors he had heard. In the harbour he had seen several crews express interest in checking out the mountaintop. He decided to watch how the townsfolk reacted to their questioning.
The people of Beat Island and especially the employees of HarmonicWorks were very interesting and friendly, and so he sat down under a tree to observe and to enjoy the atmosphere. This was a place truly permeated by the power of music, and something about it seemed to exude a kind of driving force, propelling the musical talents of everyone to new heights. He began to play on his bansuri, joining in the subconscious symphony that surrounded him.
He had chosen the perfect spot for his information gathering observations (the Brever Trees pick up sounds with their branches and redirect them to the ground), and soon he knew everything the townspeople told the newcomers and more.
He knew about the traps and the old man, and about the lucky few that managed to play up on the mountain. He also saw many interesting people. Someone had a small violin implanted in his biceps, and an old musician was somehow creating music with the cracking of his joints. The boss of HarmonicWorks walked by carrying a massive... Chainsaw Guitar? Flamethrower Axe? Angry motorcycle? Whatever it was, it was meant to hurt both acoustically and physically, and probably didn't spare the wielder either.

He also saw a peculiar old man walking through the street with a bag of groceries. The man seemed to be suffering from some balance disorder, because he was swaying from side to side jerkily, yet with a very steady rhythm. Curiously, even though his swaying had quite the amplitude, he didn't collide with anyone. It was like he was moving with the tact of the street, or maybe the entire street moved to his tact.

Such was the nature of the small town on Beat Island, a safe haven and place of pilgrimage for any kind of musician, a happy paradise in a chaotic world.
But just behind the horizon a dark intend is drawing near, a banished apprentice returning to destroy the world.

This will be a special BG. We have yet to decide our levels. I'll use a new weapon.
