ONE PIECE CHAPTER 1045 QUICK SUMMARY
Luffy turned made this fight into Looney Tunes and he's having the time of his life (so was I while reading this chapter).
He got swallowed by Kaido, but escaped after he transformed Kaido's eyes into rubbers and propelled himself with "Gomu gomu no Escape Rocket."
He turned into a LITERAL GIANT.
He used Kaido as a SKIPPING ROPE.
He tanked "Blast Breath" (again) and walked on the air to go back to Onigashima.
He tanked Kaido's "Three World Conquest - Ragnarok" and his head got sent to the live floor where everyone could see him.
He ran out of energy, yet he stood up quickly.
He tanked Kaido's attack with his head and it turned into the shape of Kaido's club.
He tanked Kaido's attack again by fusing himself into the ground and bounced back.
He finally punched Kaido THROUGH HIS FACE, which end the chapter. GODAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA :pepelaugh:

Such a fantastic chapter. Next chapter will probably be the final one before the inevitable break tho, don't think Oda's ever done more than 3 chapters in a row.

It's also interesting that Luffy turns white upon gear 5 instead of simply his hair turning into what we used to believe to be fire.

Didn’t like it. I get Oda wants to make it all more fun, and it was somewhat funny, but it’s just too cartoony and crazy for me. Luffyf’s punch that went THROUGH Kaido (and eye thing) felt too out of base even for a world with Devil Fruits.

I hope One Piece doesn’t go the way of Naruto where at the end it went off the scales.

I did, however, like the Kaido explanation that Gear 5 has coating of BOTH armaments and conquerors. That’s actually insane.🤩

That was the only thing that felt off for me as well. But Luffy has done crazy, wacky and cartoony like stuff for years. It's just been z little lost since the TS. But pre fish man island it's always been like this. Serious moments filled with silly stuff.

10/10

everything about this was great. Love the gags. Love how gross some of the body humor/horror got.

Transformed Kaido with Luffy’s hands through his eyes is everything….. :bikinicat::bikinicat::bloodtear:

Currently I am a huge fan of the "Rain God Vivi" theory :pepethinking:

We have Im-Sama holding a pictures of Luffy, Teach, Cryhoshi and Vivi.
(First 3 are obvious, but why Vivi?!?)
Came along a theory saying these 4 resembles the 4 gods named in Skypia (Sun, Land, Forest and Rain).

After rereading chapter 208 - 210 I was quite suprised!
Not only that it started to rain when Vivi screamed "Please stop fighting"!

She also had these God eyes we know from Im-Sama and Luffy. It started with Pell sacrificing and stopped right after the rain started :weirdpeep:

You will also find it post TS like in PH

I think the different you mean refers to Anime and Manga and not pre and post TS.
In Manga there always just a few panels with funny stuff. But most readers were Anime-Only pre TS :weirdpeep:

I think it's possible you misunderstand Luffy's character.

I find it likely that Eichiro Oda had planned for Joyboy to behave this way since the very beginning of the story.
- Luffy's entire personality is about being honest, and enjoying life without having hang-ups. It is this upbeat attitude of his that allows him to overcome obstacles in his life as he approaches his destiny to become the Pirate King. When luffy is hungry, he states that he is hungry. When luffy is tired, he states that he is tired. Notice how when Joyboy feels something, he reacts to it immediately. The response time associated with how quickly Joyboy feels and reacts to things is heightened because of his honesty. His haki is empowered because he is unabashed. It is when Luffy is not being joyous that he suffers, and he becomes weak. When he is joyous, all of his Haki channels are open, and King's Haki flows throughout him. This is also why he is flexible - his physical form lends itself to his will.

Luffy's basic personality is a watered-down version of Joyboy. It is a version of Joyboy that is restrained by earthly desire. Having conquered the three worlds (desire, form, and formless), he wields divine energy.

The one thing I think the writer did NOT plan on was ... having his characters say "What are you!?!?" to Luffy for +20 years. Originally, I think he planned the transition for Luffy to go from a normal character to a goofy cartoon-like character to take place in far fewer chapters and with far less filler in-between them.

If One Piece was .. 500 chapters .. then, Luffy's transition would have been less surprising, however, he stayed in his basic watered-down version of Joyboy for such a long period of time that it's the only way people know how to look at him, now. Now, it's shocking and seems out of place. However, if Luffy slowly transitioned in his attack schemes to more absurd and bizarre attacks, and cartoonish forms, then eventually we would've figured out that the end-game would result in very absurd and bizarre attacks, and very cartoonish forms.

I would like to show you the form that Luffy took when he was fighting Doflamingo. I don't think many people remember that Luffy turns into crazy things sometimes...

I mean just look at this...

Or when Oars got turned into a ball...

Or when everyone got turned into toys...

And of course there's crazy King pulling his head...

I think recently the Zoan guys have been trying to like... remind us how strange this actually is... with all the "What!?!? Is that how it works??" stuff. Like the Triceratops using his crown to fly, or the brontosaurus ... ripping its own body out of the *fleshy exterior* to become a snake. That stuff is super-far-out-there-wtf worthy. I think we needed some of that to prepare us for what Luffy was about to show everyone.

For the sake of clarity...

Do we agree that Kaido has not been killed? lol
- My stance on this is that there should be a microscopic hole on Kaido's face that was created when Luffy put his fist through it, however, there is no gaping hole and very little blood loss because of the effects of Luffy's Devil Fruit being applied to Kaido's body.

That was a kill-blow if I ever saw one... but, this is One Piece.

That theory is a little weird if Shirahoshi is supposed to be forest, but BB being land would interesting and another "opposite" between him and Luffy

Can't wait to have this dope chapter animated. Lmao at Kaido being a jumping rope. 🤣
I can't. But I died.

And it's also cool to hear Kaido telling us more about the DF mechanics including,l awakening. Goes to show how freaking smart he is. Living the life of the strongest creature of all. 💪

Wait what. I feel like I’ve seen people bring up Imu and Mihawks eyes and now Luffy’s. First im hearing of Vivis. I personally hate this because I feel like oda just makes these eyes sometimes and they feel more intense….. but idk convince me otherwise…..

I agree on the first look "Forest God Cryhoshi" Sounds weird and doesn't make much sense, but in the other Hand in could argue Oda hinted it already.

The information surrounding certain characters has always been less than satisfying.

Let's quickly review the facts, and summarize why they're difficult to interpret. Beginning with Roger, then Luffy as logical starting points, we'll move on to Momonosuke, Vivi, and Shirahoshi. After discussing these characters, we may discuss both Blackbeard and Im, and how they may fit.

1. Roger had a mysterious ability referenced as, The Voice of "All Things".

2. Luffy seems to have the same ability that Roger did or at least the potential for it.

2a. With some observation, it is noticeable that when a person like Roger or Luffy is using this mysterious ability to hear voices that the function of the voice changes depending on whether it's a living or non-living entity which is speaking. Without going into too much depth, non-living entities don't seem to be able to create telepathic links with living entities, and not all living entities can create telepathic links because many living entities don't possess a mind (only some of the most highly developed ones do).

4. Princess Shirahoshi hears Sea Kings.
- Roger and Luffy can hear Sea Kings, too.

5. Momonosuke hears Zunisha.
- Roger and Luffy can hear Zunisha, too.

6. Vivi has not made any indications that she can hear the voice of a life form similar to a Sea King or a Zunisha. However, she does have an affinity to Birds and Flying.

7. Im had pictures of Luffy, Blackbeard, Shirahoshi, and Vivi. However, no Momonosuke picture was shown (Hmm... maybe because there is NO wanted poster of Momonosuke!!)

8. Before the Reverie, Vivi went into a high-place (the lookout) to enjoy the sky. However, Igaram warned her not to go up there because a *large monstrous bird* might swoop down and take her away. (Vivi is commonly seen in high-places to enjoy the sky with her flightless birds).

9. Blackbeard and Luffy have a nemesis relationship. Im may see Luffy and Blackbeard as Lights that he/she wants to extinguish. The reasoning here may be that Luffy and Blackbeard represent Gods - and I think the reason why Blackbeard is considered a God is because he is the embodiment of Darkness meanwhile Luffy is, in effect, the embodiment of Light (the Sun God). The relationship Luffy and Blackbeard have may be separate to the relationship that Vivi, Shirahoshi, and Momonosuke share. As in, they may be entirely different types of threats in Im's perspective. Luffy and Blackbeard may represent, as people say, a Sun and Moon God. However, I would describe it as a Day and Night Gods or Light and Darkness Gods. In any case, if they do embody these fundamental aspects of nature then they may be held to a God's scale. Particularly where it may concern Greek mythology - they would be Primordial Entities that were born of Chaos. The Rain God, the Forest God, and the God of the Land, as well as the Oak God are all entities that may have been born from an even older entity (primordial) called Vearth. However, when they pay tribute to the Oak God (Kashigami) they may be seeking retribution or some other means of salvation from damnation from all of the Gods (how does feeding the Oak God appease the other Gods? I don't know). This is all personal perspective on my own part.

So... that's about as much as I could muster for that. That made me hungry.

Uhhh... I hope Vivi pulled a Poseidon on everybody at the Reverie and summoned like 8-12 Sky Kings when she started screaming. Because, like, they're in the sky at the Reverie. Not on the land, and not in the sea. So, even if Momonosuke or Shirahoshi wanted to do something about that situation the Sea Kings and Zunisha probably wouldn't be able to do much. (that is questionable because they're huge.... why Poseidon couldn't summon a dozen Sea Kings to just ram themselves into Pangaea Castle or something is beyond me). In any case, Sabo is supposedly dead. So, it seems like things really went to s*** up there and I don't think any of the good guys were able to get away easily. So, that begs the question, what miraculous feat did they pull off to escape the clutches of the most sinister villains on the planet - The Celestial Dragons - if they escaped at all, WITHOUT someone like Luffy and his plot-armor to help them through it. They had to potentially face-off with Rob Lucci, Bodyguards from every country, Bartholomew f***ing Kuma in Robotic Slave form, two New Marine Admirals, and who knows what else? All the good guys had going for them was a motley crew of high-ranking Revolutionary Army members, including not least of which the second-in-command of the entire army (Sabo), a few Dwarves with Devil Fruits including the Sewing Guy and Princess Mansherry so at least if they get blown to pieces they can be sewn back together and miracle tears to keep them from dying. Also, nobody else has made this connection, but ya, apparently that was NOT enough to keep Sabo in-tact by the end of it. Whatever they did to him was so damaging that he could not be (1) pieced back together like Humpty-Dumpty and the pain he withstood could not be healed by (2) miracle tears. If this was a game, at worst, [Miracle Tears] is supposed to cause a person to have their entire hp bar greatly replenished or entirely replenished. At best, it revives a person when their hp drops to 1 or 0 which means it effectively saves a character from death.

In conclusion, the God titles may not all be connected to each other, and there may even be a hierarchy to the Gods based on how old they are (primordial vs. non-primordial - if they are Gods at all). The Voice of all Things seems connected to Joyboy, Luffy, Roger, Momonosuke, Vivi, and Shirahoshi. Blackbeard has shown no indications that he hears Voices like the others do, but, he does embody Darkness which, in essence, doesn't even attempt to hear voices, but rather returns them to nothing. (nothing may refer to the nothingness that existed before the creation of All Things = Darkness existed before Light). With that said, Blackbeard's dream may be the end of the world or the galaxy or the universe itself with the end goal turning everything back to how it was before light existed which is when only chaos existed and a void of nothingness composed the universe. This nothingness in Greek Mythology, and in Buddhism, has given rise to such titles as The Abyss, The Netherworld, The Void. From Chaos the original Primordial Entities were created, and the Gods are their children in Greek mythology. Moreover, in Greek Mythology, they speak of Gods as possessing Endless Bodies, and Vivi as well as Shirahoshi make references to the Sky and the Sea being vast/infinite/endless. In Buddhism, the Endless Mind, Endless Body, and Endless Spirit are concepts associated with Heavenly Conqueror's who fight on the field of dharma (the field of dharma is interpreted as a biomagnetic field surrounding life forms relating to karma and fate).

Obviously, things seem to carry a mix of both Greek Mythology and Buddhism to great extents throughout the story. Poseidon, Pluton, and Uranus are all gods in Greek Mythology. Meanwhile, Luffy himself looks like one of the Five Wisdom Kings in Buddhism.

All in all, though, it's difficult to say just what is happening with everything.

Notes on Mansherry and Leo

Stitch-Stitch Fruit
Usage
Leo uses this power to stitch and hold down his targets. He also uses this ability to support objects during earthquakes, to make sure they do not fall.
It can also be used to reattach severed limbs, although irregular wound edges may compromise its efficiency and it will not heal the wound.

Heal-Heal Fruit
Mansherry ate the Chiyu Chiyu no Mi, a Paramecia-type Devil Fruit that gives her the ability to instantly heal any living being's injury. Mansherry can use her power in several different ways, including her tears. [Miracle-Tears]

Just think about that... the disadvantaged good guys at the Reverie had a person who could stitch them together like Frankenstein as well as someone who could heal any injury - and yet, somehow, Sabo got killed. Ha.

We are supposed to assume that he died due to the "Captain's Resolve", I think. He tried to pull a Luffy and save everyone, but he ended up sacrificing himself to let them get away. That may not be what actually happened, though.

Man I loved this chapter and Odas fuckery with us.

This Nika form is beautiful.

I have 2 theories:

It is hinted that Luffy's life is fading outside of his form. Gear 5 seems to control the heart beat. I think once this form wears out Luffy is physically dead.
Imho it is time for Law to find the answer to all of his questions. Law will do the thing on Luffy because he can entrust Luffy with the rest of his dream...taking revenge on the World Government.

Second: Could Nika have been a monkey mink? Monkey because of the Sun Wukong parallels and Mink because of the white form.
Parallels are there, so making such a theory is no hard work.

I think Luffy might die soon and I give this fight only a pair of episodes until done maybe..

I've seen a couple of people suggest it too that Law will use the immortality part of his DF. But I really hope it doesn't come to that...it takes away all stakes and renders encounters not all that exciting. Luffy fighting against Blackbeard and Akainu while he's immortal? No thank you.

Also, RIP one piece animators for having to learn Rubber Hose animation in 4 months time.

Also don’t like the law sacrificing himself for Luffy part. But I do think it would be hilarious and amazing if Law and his entire crew as well as carrot and Yamato—all joined the Strawhats at the end of this arc lol
