Thriller Bark's Town of Salem is a forum game based on the Town of Salem game developed by BlankMediaGames.

Intro
The game challenges players on their ability to convincingly lie as well as detect when other players are lying. The players are randomly divided into alignments – Town, Mafia, Serial Killers, Arsonists and Neutrals. If you are a Town member (the good guys) you must track down the Mafia and other scums before they kill you. The catch? You don’t know who is a Town member and who is a scum. If you are an evil role, such as a Serial Killer, you secretly murder town members in the veil of night and try to avoid getting caught.

Game play
Phases
There are two phases: day phase, night phase. Each phase is (at least) 24 hours long. Some games may include an Evening Phase, where it is common to just shitpost introduce yourself and greet your fellow players.
• Day phase
During the day phase players engage in conversation; the day phase is when town members should be the most active and the goal is to find a suspect to exile. Scums can use the day phase to cause confusion and misdirection. Day phase is also used to create reads on players to help decide night phase actions. The day phase ends when the number of exile votes required for an exile has been reached OR 24 hours has passed.
• Night phase
The night phase is when actions and activities are completed and recorded for the following day phase. Mafia members and other scums use the night phase to their advantage by taking out town members. Town members get information or protect through their actions.
Voting
Voting is a day phase action in which players vote to exile a suspect. Once the cap has been reached all conversations stop and the suspect is put upon a platform and is given a chance to defend themselves with a single post. Players then vote guilty, innocent, or abstain.
• Voting format is vote exile [player name]. The cap number is an equation of 50%+1. So if there is 20 players the cap for an exile is 11 votes. You are allowed to unvote by posting unvote [player name], however if cap has been reached all votes are locked.
• After the suspect's defense (or lack of after 3 years hours) the voting of innocent, guilty, or abstain occurs. You can change your vote by posting unvote vote [choice].
- A suspect is exiled when over half of the votes are guilty. The day phase ends with a guilty guillotine.
- If over half the votes are innocent then the suspect is set free and if there was still time in the day period the day continues.
- Abstain votes are counted as null votes.

Common terms/ slang
Arso- arsonist
BG- bodyguard
BM- blackmailer
Catching up- what someone says when they are trying to give themselves more time to delay the conversation.
Character- flavor in the game. Irrelevant in Town of Salem, used only for hosts to create stories and write ups.
Claim- people want you to share your role, role NOT character.
Coach- the one overseeing new host, steps in only if host has made an error. A Silent observer.
Chaos- crazy level game where any role can make an appearance.
DN- deathnote. A way to say goodbye/ pass on information if you are killed. Deathnotes cannot be updated after you have been told you have died.
DP- day period/phase
EP- evening period/phase
Filler- a fluff post used to seperate messages for the host. Only filler if asked to do so.
Fluff/fluff posting- posting to just post. The posts do not contain anything relevant to the current game. Aka shitposting.
Game throwing- a strike-able offense where a player (usually scum) gives up and outs all their fellow scums thus technically ending the game. Aka sore loser. Aka poor sportsmanship. Aka dick. Aka bad teammate. Aka don't be that guy.
GF- godfather
Going to bed/going afk- said when you're going to be away for a significant amount of time and a period of time when you are most suspected and can't defend yourself. Likely results in a vote train on you.
Host- the person all game questions should be directed to, also the one in charge of the day and night phases. Time lord.
I told you so- shottie's favorite phrase
LO- look out
Lynch/ Guillotine/ exile- the day process where someone is selected to be possibly "killed" by voting.
Lynch/ Guillotine/ exile train- said when a group of voting happens quickly on one person. Can result in a quick cap. A great advantage for scums usually to get a train started.
Meta- how you think a person plays based on how they have played before. See: tinfoil hat.
Mini- a game with about 15 players
Mod-kill- an extreme move on a player in which the player is killed by the host due to not being active in a game and there are no subs or a player broke a rule and it affects game play. (Ie game throwing, extreme disrespect, etc. See Rules for more examples).
NP- night period/phase
PM- private message/role convo.
rb- roleblocked
Reads- what do you think someone's alignment may be based on their posts.
Role- the job given to you by the host. Town, mafia, neutral, serial killer, etc. See also: roles
Scum/ scummy/ scummies- bad guys: mafia, serial killer, neutral chaos, witches, coven, werewolf, etc.
SK- serial killer
Strike- a form of punishment in mafia for breaking rules. Too many strikes will result in a temporary ban from playing mafia.
Substitute/ substitution/ subs- when a player has to be removed from a game but they are not dead, a new player is brought in to play their role.
Sus/suss- suspect or suspicious
Tinfoil hat- crazy idea/theory.
Tizzy- working someone up until they are talking in circles.
TK- town kill role
Townie- town, good guy
TP- town protect role
TP- transporter
Vamps- vampires
Vet- veteran
Vig- Vigilante
VH- vampire hunter
Whisper- some games allow people to pass secret messages to each other. You are only allowed 2 whispers per dp. Spies and blackmailers will see the content of the messages.

Mini games are 15 player games, and with a smaller number of participants the games usually go quick.

Every new host MUST start with this standard mini set up that is coached. There are a few roles that are required in this set up, but there are a good number of random roles that games can be unique for each host.

Standard Mini set up
  • Jailor
  • Invest Role (Sheriff or Investigator)
  • Doctor
  • 6 Random Towns
  • 3 Mafia
  • Any 3rd Party
  • 3rd Party ( Amnesiac, Executioner, Jester, or Survivor)
  • Witch

After hosting your first standard mini game you will be able to sign up and create a mini with any approved set up, a larger game using the standard roles, or you can sign up to host a Coven Mini game. Your first Coven Mini needs to follow this set up so that you can learn all the roles.

Coven Mini set up
  • Sheriff
  • Lookout
  • Psychic
  • Jailor
  • Town Protective
  • Random Town
  • Random town
  • Random Town
  • Coven Leader
  • Potion Master
  • Executioner
  • Random Coven
  • Medusa
  • Plaguebeaerer
  • Pirate
Roles are found here. New hosts must complete these two styles of games and a large standard game before they can do a Chaos game. Chaos games are combinations of all roles and coven roles.
