Fishman Arc Island, that's how. As it turns out, a resident of Fishman Island guarded his possession. Why would they do that for someone that wasn't a Fishman? That's my reasoning anyway. Especially considering they were also allied with Hody's crew that hated other species.

This isn't entirely off-base. What I mean is that Joyboy's One Piece -- yes, his One Piece, there are several -- might be composed of a certain gift he received from a Mermaid Princess long ago, in exchange for the Tamatebako.
