Villagers = Town - good guys
Werewolf = Mafia - bad guys

Seers - Witches - Sheriff are roles

It is a terminology thing

Werewolf does equal mafia. In modern mafia these names are different but still have the same concept. A seer is cop. Village is town. You get the idea.

Yes that is a similar game. I even seen some sites use the word scum and wolves as interchangeable. I don't know the actual basis of the wolf game but there are guides that explain mafia and it's roles, like https://wiki.mafiascum.net/index.php?title=Category:Roles_Main_Page this is an example but there are many more sites with more roles listed than just this.

Werewolf is just another name for mafia. An older name. Same concept and gameplay.

werewolf game's roles and mechanics are pretty much fixed just like town of salem mafia

Fixed means that roles are always the same. Investigator will always be the same in Werewolf-Town of Salem

But in regular investigator can be anything host wants it to be

Pretty much last game town lynched every town player who had the OP powers thinking town can't have OP role lol
