You know what? Sometimes I wish there was a pokemon game for PC, after all these years... and one ported with some kind of pokemon adventure editor for you to make your own story.

Coz srsly, the tools I've had to use to make my own pokemon game in Gen III era, is a nightmare and not very noob or user-friendly at all. Sadly, the pokemon games are never on PC, but for all these other weird mediums. :/

Yeah, there are tools for it, like AdvanceMap 1.92, Nameless Pokemon and Trainer editors, YAPE, XSE for scripting etc, but believe me.. making a map is so damn tedious to do, simply because AdvanceMap doesn't allow you to select things by sprites (e.g. the pokemon center) but the 1x1 tiles that make up the sprites (e.g. the door of the pokemon center).. and the fact that you have put 1x1 tiles to make anything for a map is just tedious.

Like.. imagine mapping a route and having to create the same tree over and over... and one tree in AdvMap contains 3 or 4 1x1 tiles... or making the same pokemon center in every city repetitively, and one poke center contains 9 1x1 tiles.. It's just incredibly tedious... I mean, I'm fine with terrain mixing and adding all kinds of creative stuff, but still... adding 1x1 tiles to make the same object over and over??? It's really tedious.

And that alone, you're only just halfway done.. coz there's also the scripting part in XSE, and being familiar with something like that takes a lot of time and effort.. like you'd have to know the specific order to make an event

e.g. for a pokemart, you'd have to be familiar with dynamic @80000 and when to use lockplayer, faceplayer, openmsg, and you'd have to be familiar with numbers that code for the items.. the entire sequence, and that's just one simple event.. a pokemart...... and you also have to be familiar with ASM for other stuff. It's crazy.

I got carried away with Pokemon Essentials for RPG Maker XP today... but now I have a better grasp on what I'm doing and a good foundation.
I did the following: created Route 1, figured out how to connect maps, added extra regional pokedexes, adjusted maps to get rid of blank space, setup the starter choice, setup the first rival battle, set encounters for Route 1, and some minor other stuff.

was thinking of getting all 3 starters then doing the game but i am just defeated the 4th gym with a overpowered Level 50 pokemon team and thinking just going for the W and run through the game then restart as i get 3 starters on my Shield then vice versa for Sword.

I've actually heard of pokemon essentials way back. :)
How is it? And is there a link to it and stuff? Would love to check it out.

It's pretty good. It's based in RPG Maker XP, so it's mainly game creation, you create maps, edit text files, set events, play test, and occasionally edit a script or use the debug menu. If you're familiar with RPG Maker it's a lot easier to start. Other than that, most of the how-to's are provided in demo code or have answers in the wiki. It's kind of learning as you go, but once you know how to do things, the creation process speeds up.

As far as the actual essentials kit, it has the first five generations of pokemon and the graphics are styled after gen 3. The Kanto and Johto Pokedexes are pre-made, and most of the standard encounter types are available (land, water, cave, fishing, rock smash, etc.). Basically, there's a lot to work with, and it's pretty fun doing so.

Here is where you can get Pokemon Essentials: https://www.pokecommunity.com/showthread.php?s=84582e30529f7588f44902abc03acc36&t=398806
Here is the documentation wiki: https://essentialsdocs.fandom.com/wiki/Essentials_Docs_Wiki

And if you want to get RPG Maker XP it is on Steam or their website.

I just managed to get pokemon essentials, along with RPG maker XP, and you're right.. it looks really great, plus using RPG XP to edit the map is a lot like using AdvanceMap 1.92, but it's so much better, coz you can expand the tile selection, which you can't do in AdvMap (you're restricted to adding 1x1 tiles one by one, which is annoying).

The only thing that worries me is that I'm so used to the spacebar-speed up feature in VBA emulator, that gameplay would feel incredibly slow, xD but it's nothing too big really. :p But other than that, it's really good. :)

What do you guys think about the difficulty level of sword and shield? To me it was way to easy, leveling was to easy, every time I went to fight some one even gym leaders or the champion himself I found my Pokemon to be considerably higher levels. Allowing me to one shot almost anything...

way too easy, they need to bring back the "Difficulty Mode" back in B2/W2 but have it where you can activate it from the start

I just lost all interest in the game despite i only have defeated 5 gyms in 1 game and the other i just left the Wild Area before the first gym with my team all being Level 30

In my case I was kept entertain, but I didn't feel trill to it, I knew I could win every time with minimum effort and while I certainly was having fun just because it was Pokemon, it did take a lot from the experience.

You played it to times or you bought both sword and shield?

PokeOne released last week a video showing off the new Unova region. It's still not out, but it's nice to see that this game is getting a new region out soon. Hopefully its released next month so we can try out :pandaawn:

@Stray Cat you might like this, since I remember you mentioning Unova in discord.

Nope. Only Kanto & Johto is out, they are still finishing their work in Unova and I didn't see any mention of a new region in their server yet :/

Pretty much. I think they have made a poll asking which region their users wanted before doing anything, and Unova is one of the most popular regions. I personally like Sinnoh the best, but we'll have to wait a lot until then :toolazyplz:

True, Unova came with a whole new set of pokemon while Hoenn/Sinnoh was shared with new pokemon and new evolutions. I wish they came back with the Festival from those two continent since it was so fun to play

they need to make some pokemon easier to obtain, i spent 2 full regions not able to get my seadra to evolve due to needing an item you could only get late into johto, which needed a hm move you cant even get
