Hi thrillerbark,
I am here to present an idea concerning the concept of dreams in One Piece.
Part 1: The Dream of the Great Kingdom
Dreams equate with ideals. The Family of D's Great Kingdom was said to be a powerful civilization with great ideals (Common theme in fiction). The dreams of people will result in a single type of goal. The goal will be harmony between all civilizations. The dream of the Great Kingdom is a form of peaceful idealism. The Great Kingdom was attacked because of the ideals it had. The ideals the Great Kingdom had were like the Prime Directive in Star Strek.
In the fictional universe of Star Trek, the Prime Directive (also known as "Starfleet General Order 1", "General Order 1", and the "non-interference directive") is a guiding principle of Starfleet, prohibiting its members from interfering with the internal and natural development of alien civilizations. The Prime Directive applies particularly to civilizations which are below a certain threshold of technological, scientific, and cultural development; preventing starship crews from using their superior technology to impose their own values or ideals on them.
In other words, the Great Kingdom possessed superior technology and did not want to impose their own values or ideals on the Alliance of Twenty Kingdoms because the Alliance of Twenty Kingdoms were civilizations which were below a certain threshold of technological, scientific, and cultural development: preventing the Great Kingdom from using their superior technology to impose their own values or ideals on them.
The Alliance of Twenty Kingdoms wanted to steal the technology of the Great Kingdom for varying reasons:
a) some of them wanted the technology to create powerful weapons.
b) some of them wanted the technology to cure deadly diseases.
c) some of them wanted the technology to make profit by selling it.
Part 2: The Dream of the Iconians
The Iconians are a type of humanoid species in Star Trek. They were the first-born race created by The Preservers. The dream of the Iconian Civilization was the same as the dream of the Starfleet Federation. They wanted harmony between all civilizations throughout the universe. However, being technologically superior, they had to make rules about giving their technology to other civilizations who may use it for evil instead of for good. So, sometimes, even if people seemed well-intentioned, the Iconians would refuse to provide them with aid. Resentful of this, the underdeveloped civilizations created an alliance to attack the Iconians and steal their technology.
The Dream of the Iconians = Harmony of All Civilizations
Part 3: The Dream of the Preservers
The Preservers were alone in the universe as the only sentient life forms during its early development. They are who created all other life forms in the universe by seeding worlds with their own genetic coding, thereby making all life forms in their own image. They call all life forms their "Children". The Preservers wanted nothing more than to meet new people because they were alone in the universe. They wanted to meet their "children" and see the world they would create.
The Dream of the Preservers = the Dream of the Iconians = Harmony of All Civilizations
Remember, the Iconians were the first-born race created by The Preservers. Their dreams are the same thing.
In One Piece, the Great Kingdom's dream may be the same thing, "Harmony of All Civilizations". The Great Ideals will include (1) peace (2) truth (3) knowledge (4) justice and (5) freedom. Further, the Great Kingdom will be based on "exploration" and "discovery". The Great Kingdom will also possess technology that borders between science fiction and spirituality because it is soul-based technology which would otherwise not exist in real life situations.
