Still have no clue how zoan awakening functions. Especially seeing as this form is wildly different from any form Kaido showed us. Could he really have no access to or perhaps he actively choose to not use it?

I was thinking that Kaido might have shown us his Awakened form already with that Hybrid Form and that once you achieved the awakened state, there's no going back. You maintain that form. Could also be the reason why Luffy did no longer go G3 or G4. And why Lucci did not show us his EL hybrid form? We'll see in the next chaps.

Nah. Lucci showed us his regular hybrid form when he Rokuougan'ed Atlas so don't think that's the case. Kaido did recognize Luffy's awakening as being zoan due to its transformation. Which, now with a second example, is due to the vapour they emit. Lucci emits the odd black smoke around him and Luffy does the same but with white clouds. So I'd assume from that, that Kaido knows what it is and how it functions, at the very least.

Kaido did have numerous odd looking hybrid versions but I always figured it to be the Sake equivalent of rumble balls lol.

I genuinely hope one of the Japanese readers ask it in a future SBS. It's just too weird for him not to have it unless it comes with a major drawback we just don't know about.

It makes perfect sense for someone who values haki above everything else to not have Awakening. What’s wrong with this community is that everybody is a bandwagon who wants every character to have the same abilities.

Everybody needs CoC, FS, Hakiman power and Awakening to please you people.

Kaido and Big Mom weren’t awakened, if they were it would be highlighted and addressed like every other awakening user lmao. They were haki monsters that happened to have hax fruits, thats all.

Just felt weird that supposedly two of the strongest pirates didn't really use it even with haki at their disposal. It also was never mentioned or hinted at. And you say that Kaido's forte isn't dragon powers but he used quite a fair amount of advanced stuff. Even his last form where he could melt stuff with a mere touch seemed too 'advanced' for someone who allegedly doesn't focus on dragon powers.

Your final point makes absolutely no sense. So because Kaido focuses on Haki above all else he isn’t allowed to have mastery over his fruit if he isn’t awakened lmao

Kaido’s final form was just doing what King did… Regardless it was coated in haki

After thinking over it for some time I personally began to think that might be tied to awakening. Lucci's body frame also seems different so maybe being able to adjust the powers/characteristics of animals throughout the body at will is tied to typical zoan awakening? Then, in cases, like the impel down jailors, some zoan users let the animal trait aspect take over too much and their brains are overrun by instinct and lose standard reasoning. At least that's all I could figure.

Luffys awakening seems to be unlocking his mythical form. Thus its possible Kaidou transforming into the Dragon and be able to use all the Dragon abilities at will is his awakening.

This could also mean Momo being able to use Bolo Breath and create Flame Clouds could be a hint that he already unlocked awakened form.

And on top of that it would also mean that we saw Sengokus awakened form at Sabaody. Same goes for Marco as well.

I still think Big Moms absorbing Soul Power is an awakening ability.

Also Kaidou explanation of "awakening" is nothing but "be one with your Devil Fruit Powers".
