Rivayle
Rivayle is a small desert island with as much of a focus on the arcane as it has on gunplay for its inhabitants. It features one notable city. Sharing the same name as the island itself. It has its own local law enforcement with no Marine bases anywhere close to Rivayle, its people were forced to police themselves. There were three ruling families that essentially collectively owned the island. One family embodied Force, one family embodied Order, and the third family embodied Prosperity. The family ruling Force lost face when the next in line to be the head of the family left without warning. The current state of the island has the Force Family scrambling to hold on to its power as the other two looks to snuff them out. Causing tension among the citizens, with the threat of a civil war being very real.

"You stay right here Gurren, can't risk scaring the locals. Especially when I'm trying to help. I'll give you the hero's arrival when the time requires it."
The young man known as Simon said, well, mostly to himself. Before him was a massive 11-meter robot-like structure it's look was uncanny but known only to a handful this thing was actually made out of biscuit dust. Ironically a very durable substance. Hidden at the outskirts of Rivayle, Simon dropped it off behind one of the massive mountains.

With his hands in his pocket the young man moved through the pale and dead lands that filled the roads between no man's land and Rivayle. His first solo mission for the revolutionaries. Still stuck as a mere warrant officer, Simon wanted to mark his place within the group as well on this earth. Spending the last several years training he finally felt ready to tackle a mission on his own. And the first was to get rid of the royalty that plagued the town of Rivayle. Civil war was on the horizon and rumours of the remaining families weren't pretty to say the least.

It was time to get rid of the nobility that kept this place in charge.

"Yosh, let's go!"

Simon said out loud as he made his way towards the city, the town finally coming into view.

The city lies within the horizons, Rivayle, the same name given to the island that the city laid its foundation upon. A small deserted island that seems to be mostly a wasteland except for Rivayle itself. As Simon finds himself approaching Rivayle, he would notice the smoky chimneys that funnels into the sky from the city itself. A city of a strange combination of architectures, the city even from afar sports several high rise buildings and even several air ships, though mostly outfitted with steam engine and balloon that floats around the city. But once Simon came closer towards the city in which the city can be seen more clearly, the true nature of Rivayle is laid bare. A city that seemly combined steampunk and the wild west. A strange city unlike others.

Here, Simon would notice more steampunk-like buildings, closer to more modernized architecture with some semblance to wild west architecture at the centre of Rivayle – but the outer parts of the city would very quickly remind Simon of the normal wild west cities that he may know.

Here even the outer parts of the city are bustling with life, a city with no laws to traffic as trains passes from outside the city and into the city. Here the town, known Mudgorge feature verticality as buildings and shops are seemly stack upon each other, with only a large stretch of sand that act as the road that divides the left and right side of Mudgorge. Shops, saloons, lodgings and even train stations. Simon would find himself immersed and overwhelmed by the busy daily life of Rivayle, or at least of Mudgorge. Opportunities galore.

The world if your oyster.

"Wow!"
Was all Simon could say honestly as he marvelled at the sophistication of this town. Airships, horses, trains and everything ran on steam engines, this was a place unlike any he had visited before. And to think this place was in the West-Blue of all the four main seas, it boggled the mind. But when he snapped out of the marvel he could only see pure chaos. People were running all over the place, and carts and horses had to dodge people left and right. There was no unity and no order in this place it was quite literally the Wild West. Simon took his time moved out of the way of the incoming traffic and observed. In his mind, he wondered why he was even needed here, from a first glance there wasn't much oppression here.

After some window dressing Simon with the lack of better judgement took the cliche option and searched for a Saloon that wasn't particularly busy this time of day. Out of the eye of the common folk, Simon figured he could get a better read on what was actually going on in this place.

That and he quite honestly needed a drink.

A marvellous steam punk city set in the wild west. Like a blast into a certain era. Yet the city and its citizen is strangely forward and backwards. Perhaps that is how a retro-futuristic world would look like. Technology is both present and absent. One of the few things that Simon would notice when he would look into how the people of Rivayle presented themselves. Some were wearing cowboy-like outfits; others were wearing suits much similar to modern era. There were also a mix of steampunk style of clothing in mix with the cowboy fashion. Truly a city where present and history meets. Simon’s marvel over the city quickly came to an impression that nothing seemed to be in need of a revolution.

But as a member of the revolutionary, Simon must realize that even the brightest city shrouds the deepest shadows. For humans – darkness seeps into every facet our lives. But for now, the bustling city with such vibrancy means a time for respite as thirst became apparent for the young Revolutionary. Saloons are everywhere. But presumably, the boy would choose the nearest bar that fit his criteria to quench his thirst, whether that path will be met with people and horses crossing in front of him or not – he would eventually find himself into a single saloon off the streets. And much like he would hope – the bar whilst not crowded still have patrons enjoying themselves. Assumingly, Simon would enter the saloon where patrons drink, talk and even play cards to their enjoyment. But for Simon before he could enjoy himself would find a more stoic man dressed much like a cow boy on the side of entrance. Behind him is a plethora of guns and weapon, though mostly pistols and the like.

“Weapons.”

The man spoke monotonously. Saloons, much like the wild west held a policy of no weapons. Meaning to put, whether or not Simon has them – he has to declare and surrender if he does possess a weapon. House rules after all. If Simon do have a weapon with the intention of surrendering the weapon temporarily, he would find his weapon confiscated behind the man, likely returned when he is ready to leave. Otherwise, he may find a deathly stare but to no further actions from the man, allowing Simon through eventually.

With the saloon free to walk about. Simon would notice the number of gambling tables with full and open seats all around, mostly playing poker of sorts. He would also find tables all around free for seating, with those that are occupied are mostly the citizens drinking, flirting and the like. He would also finally notice several open counter seats with the bartender. All in all, a somewhat rowdy scene given the activities that happens in the saloon.

It took Simon some time but eventually, he found a saloon worth his description. Not too crowded but not deserted either. Weirdly on his journey towards this place, none of the citizens looked at him. He did stand out quite a bit compared to most of the people here. In any event, once he entered the room he was greeted by a stoic-looking cowboy off to the side, demanding the young man to drop off his weapons at this point. "No weapons on me partner," Simon said, raising his arms which moved his jacket upwards. This movement in turn revealed that nothing was on his hips, with his chest being bare there wasn't much else the guard could check. Besides his pockets and perhaps the inside of his boot Simon figured that'd be well beyond the security check this place required.

Assuming that everything was clear the young man moved ahead and into the saloon. At first glance, most of the patrons were enjoying a casual game of poker, and many tables were filled. With only a handful here and there that'd allow Simon to join in if he so desired. To the side of these tables, many were enjoying a drink with comrades while others were undergoing romantic encounters. But all of that was noise, once Simon noticed an empty bar standing right next to the bartender he went straight toward it. He took a seat and eyed the man behind the counter.

"Alright good sir, give me whatever you got on tap," Simon said planting his hands on the counter, a berri bill below it. A wide enthusiastic grin spun from ear to ear.

Simon would find that the ‘guard’ would find no further attempts to search and check his body for hidden weapons. It is a trust system and perhaps Simon would do well to recognize that. If he is later shown to still held weapons, he would be promptly kicked out. Either way, he would be free to explore the saloon as he liked. The liveliness of the saloon patrons is busy enough in which Simon’s arrival is only noted but not in the way in he would catch too much attention. After all, everyone has their own lives, and apparently they cared more about themselves than an outsider. It would be very unlikely that Simon would catch the attention of the unsavory off the chance of first impressions.

With no hesitation, Simon surveyed the area and quickly notice a free seating on the counter where the bartender would be. Bartenders are the best source of information given the nature of their job. Wearing a somewhat formal outfit, a white shirt with black cardigans as well as a half-apron and pants. The bartender cleans a glass cup with a towel, busy on his own – until Simon would eventually sat down calling out the bartender for a drink. The attention is called, as the bartender turn around to pour a glass of beer with a new cup of glass before passing it to Simon.

“A foreigner eh? What prompt you to come to this small island of Rivayle?”

The bartender asked. Noting the clothing in which Simon wore is quite different from the others, which can only lead to one other possibility.

“Did you come here for work? I heard they have been posting up various mercenaries. Didn’t realize the recruitment spread far beyond our island.”

The bartender casually continues the conversation, though his question remained the same. Being a bartender meant that he would have to be sociable if need be. Information and conversation becomes a daily part of his job. Simon didn’t have to do much to pry information from the locales, but that he would simply need to be careful, for he is a foreigner in this land.

It didn't take long before Simon had a glass of beer in his hand. This bartender was on his game, excellent service in Simon's opinion. With his left hand, the young man took the glass raised it to his lips and took a sip. While he was drinking the bartender started to make some small talk, wondering what brought Simon to these outskirts. With nearly half of his glass downed Simon rested it back on the counter now able to respond to the man's questions.

"Well, I've been on a personal journey more or less. So I do take some odd jobs from time to time, funds are starting to run a bit dry after all."

Simon said, taking another sip from his drink but this time it was more out of enjoyment than of thirst itself.

"Someone's looking for merc work ey? Hmm, I've always been able to hold my own in a brawl. It could be fun. But I get the sense that there is something more to this group?"

Simon asked, wondering why the man behind the counter had mentioned 'them' so mysteriously. It was as if he was afraid to mention this faction by name. Whatever it was Simon fancied the idea of acting like a mercenary it'd get him into the deep far quicker than he'd anticipated.

The bartender skilfully serves Simon his drink, theorising his customer’s reason for coming to Rivayle, however it seems like he is wrong about his theory as Simon responded clearly that he wasn’t here because of the posted job. Simon believed the use of ‘them’ creates an idea that the bartender seems to be nervous around speaking of this mysterious group. But that was merely the way in which the bartender presumes about why Simon came to Rivayle the first place, as he thought Simon came for the job as Rivayle isn’t exactly a city that does tourism. Regardless of which, the bartender, now realizing his presumption to be wrong changed his tone slightly, a little less confident but still portrays a casual attitude overall.

“I see. So you didn’t come here for the job. Seems like you don’t know much about Rivayle then.”

The bartender spoke as he continues his job – since Simon is new to Rivayle perhaps information is best served to help the young man on his future endeavours within Rivayle. Rivayle is generally safe, but one wrong move and Simon would end up catching the attention from the wrong crowd.

“Rivayle used to be under the authority of three Kings from their famiglias, now there is two – the Order and Prosperity famiglia. The city is almost completely split into two territories between them as the last remnants of the third famiglia are now being squeezed out completely. These days not much fighting between the two famiglias however, since they have an alliance ever since Rivayle has come under the rule of the two kings.”

The bartender took a small breather to allow Simon to process what is going on in Rivayle.

“It is hard to say who is ruling the whole city now, but the Order famiglia control the local enforcement while the other one mostly dealt with trade regarding the city though regardless, both famiglias are equally powerful. In this town, Mudgorge is under the Prosperity famiglia.”

The bartender would start to keep some of the clean glasses to where they belong. As he turns around, the bartender would have made sure that answer Simon’s potential question.

“If you are interested at the job, outside of this place opposite of the road is a large notice board, the job is posted there. It is a call for the extermination of bandits.”

The bartender would point out towards the door, quite literally straight ahead from the door in fact.

“They called them bandits but well.. some may not agree to it. But if you are looking for work it should still be available as I heard the job posting hasn’t met with success with the local here.”

The bartender finishes his crash course on Rivayle, though depending on what Simon would do, the bartender would patiently wait, assuming that Simon may have more questions to ask.

Without him realizing it Simon had revealed to the bartender that he wasn't a local or looking for a specific job. With that in mind, the bartender gave a bit more context to the place the young revolutionary had found himself in. It'd seem that there used to be a body of 3 families governing together but for some reason, the third one was axed and actively being hunted down. Interesting. Simon thought to himself as he took a drink from his beer. Perhaps a way into this political landscape? And from the way the bartender was describing it seemed that the order and prosperity family were pretty much equal. Simon figured there was more to this. He even had a gut feeling that this alliance was founded on a flimsy agreement. Once Simon's beer was finished the bartender would point him to the next objective or at least an opportunity, a notice board.

"Exterminating bandits.." Simon repeated the bartender. But the tone in his voice made it seem like he was questioning it.

Moving from his seat Simon stood up and placed another bill on the counter, a tip for the information he had just received. Or the excellent service. Who could say at this point?

"I have a feeling that I know why," Simon said with his mind clear and set on his next goal. Moving away from the bar and into the outside towards the noticeboard.

"Let's go defeat some bandits." The young man whispered to himself.

With the power of knowledge granted upon Simon by the bartender, Simon quickly got up from his seat, though paying to ensure he wasn’t a dinner dasher, no reason to become a criminal when he is not even an hour into the city. With information and context about the job, Simon decided to leave the bar and head to the notice board just the opposite side of the streets. He started to theorized the job scope, and the reason for it though until he would begin the mission in earnest his theory would remain unsupported.

As he heads to the notice board, he would notice several people looking about the details of the notice board, it wasn’t just a single job posted on it after all. When approaching the board, he would notice several jobs posted on it as well although the biggest one, reasonably – that he would see he the extermination of a bandit job. Upon closer inspection, the details are as follow:

Job said:
“We are looking for help in the extermination of the bandits located in Cripple Creek town.

You will be handsomely rewarded for your service to the city!

For those interested, head to the Prosperity branch office in Bandera Town for more information regarding the job.”

Two towns. Cripple Creek and Bandera. And another point of interest – Prosperity’s branch office. Should Simon decide to pick up the job posting for any reasons, he would find murmurs around him as the citizens would find it shocking. And should he ask about the locations of the two towns, he would find that Bandera Town situated towards the centre left of Rivayle which is relatively close by, while Cripple Creek at the northern end of the city. Even if he did not, the train stop for Mudgorge is just up ahead if he walks just a bit deeper into the centre – where a city map would provide the same information can be found by the train stop.

Which direction should Simon head to?

A short hike was all it took for Simon to reach the bounty board. He had to scoot past some people who stood in front of the board but eventually, he could read the job postings. Bandits in cripple creek town was the objective but he'd scratch his head a bit at the wording of it all. Exterminate? Seemed rather drastic in response to low level criminals. The people around him seemed to disagree with the suggestion this board was giving and remembering the bartender there was a lot more to it than simple bandits.

In any case, Bandera Town and its branch office seemed like a logical next step. He needed some extra info regardless, only a fool would rush in blind in such cases. Besides, the board never mentioned how much the reward was. Not that he'd take it if these were the remnants of the third family. Which was something he figured they'd be.

With his hands in his pockets, Simon moved towards Bandera town and its office through whichever means was the fastest.

Simon took it up upon himself to pick up the job from the notice board, which prompted the murmurs of the people around him. They were neither hostile nor friendly in terms of their gossips, only expressing shock at the fact someone even dared pick it up. Information, Simon needed more information, one of the problem with the job posting is the lack of definitive rewards for the completion of the job, almost as if it is intention. But no matter, Simon would find himself near a train stop, essentially a bus stop but for a train instead. Here trains come and go, but given that there is only one track to go, Simon would find himself boarding the train – being the fastest way after all. The trains much like one that would be seen in city of almost steam punk, are steam locomotives.

As Simon took the train, he would find the city of Rivayle rather fascinating in terms of architecture, the closer the train departs into the deeper city, the more ‘modernized’ the city is, less of a wild west era buildings and more of a modern steampunk city. Even the train has started to go off the tracks on the ground and started gaining height. It is as if Simon has jump into a different time – truly a marvellous city that would bring awe and excitement to travellers. Should Simon take himself upon to marvel at the city view and its rather drastic change, perhaps he himself may look at this rapid development with strange feelings. It would not take too long, but eventually – an announcement within the train is made. Bandera. By now, most buildings are essentially steampunk architecture that even the roads and vehicles of the more modern era could be seen off from train windows.

One particular building however that stood out against the rest, one that is built upon with gold finish, different from the rest. By now, if Simon has saw this building, he may gain some insight upon its building and existence. But no matter, soon the train would stop in Bandera off of a train station atop on a building which Simon would find himself now on new land.

One of the greatest invention of any modern city is a localized map. And should Simon take a garner upon its map, he would find directions quite easily to points of interest. The prosperity branch office is just in the direction of the gold-lined building, and in between them stood streets upon streets. That said, perhaps the use of taxis may be useful to reach his destination, but there is always the option to explore the streets – after all not everything can be seen if you fly over them, to put it another way. Regardless of his decision, Simon would find the bustling streets of Bandera, just like Mudgorge except not as chaotic as the wild west town on the outskirts of the city, a refined town so as to speak.

This town never ceased to amaze Simon. From its high-tech design and its sense of industrialism, everything seemed to go smoothly. As wonder and amazement started to fade, the young officer began to doubt why he was even here. But their intel in that regard was never wrong. Behind this incredible polish and shine a very dark underbelly resided. One that was holding the true potential of this town back. Through a short session with the steam train the young man would find himself at the heart of the city, Bandera. The complete opposite of Mudgorge. Luckily this place had a map, otherwise, he'd been completely lost.

Coming from a very small upbringing everything Simon was seeing blew his mind. Never in his wildest dreams did he expect such a massive place to exist in the blues.

Simon observed the map with great focus, trying to not miss a singular detail. It wasn't something he could carry with him, unfortunately. And it'd seem his desired route would take him in the direction of a large gold-lined building. He could make it by a long trek through the streets or a paid, short excursion with a motorized taxi. Having felt the wonder of the steam train, Simon felt it wasn't fair to explore the city by vehicle. With his hands in the pockets of his cloak, the young man continued his venture on foot.

As he walked he looked around and just observed the scenery. It was a welcome change, honestly. From the dreary and macabre things he's used to seeing when trying to liberate towns. Finding a completely functioning one was a bit jarring, to say the least. But for now, he'd welcome and enjoy it, knowing full well that most of it was perhaps a well-fabricated illusion.

Through his walk towards to the office, Simon would simply partake in people-watching. If that was at all possible in the district(s) he was moving through.

Simon decided to take the scenic route, wanting to look absorb more of this wondrous moment that the city offers ever since he boarded the train, truly a city of marvel especially for Simon whom came from humble beginnings meant that this view would have to be incredibly different from where he is from, a stark contrast to what he knew and grew up in. As Simon continues to explore the town whilst making his way towards his destination, he would find the steampunk city despite being bustling with life – to be much less chaotic, societal norms in place that one should expect when conducting themselves in public. Yet behind the beauty of the city lies a hidden darkness that even Simon finds it a little hard to fathom, doubting the mission that he was given. How could a city with such incredible technology, aimed to improve the lives of its people would have any kind of darkness that seeps into the cracks of its people? That would be the question that Simon would have to find out on his own. Simon would engage in people-watching, yet the people in this city felt well, happy – peaceful. Despite words of banditry around, the people never seem worried as they continue their lives as normal, pretty much just as the people of Mudgorge seems to be as well. Or perhaps they weren’t close enough to be of a concern, or they were confident that such banditry is dealt with. This is as peaceful of a city one could hope for within Bandera.

Soon, between his destination and where he would eventually find himself to be, a large but short building – a plaza. But it is not just any plaza, it is a
marketplace of sorts.

Just past here is the destination. But within is the marketplace, a bit more chaotic – perhaps the wild west has never left its people, no matter the modernization its people perhaps always felt more comfortable with a bit of chaos. Inside this plaza where much more people could be seen moving about, though still more refined than Mudgorge’s traffic. Presumably, Simon would more than likely to take the path forward into the market plaza, considering it’s still a straight path and would eventually lead to his destination regardless. Once inside, Simon would observe a more ‘rustic’ feel to the plaza, people wearing modernized steampunk clothing to completely wild west fashion compared to the outside streets where most people seem to be wearing modern steampunk fashion if not all, a mix of the two. Perhaps a class difference at work? One can be sure that at the very least this place definitely felt more like a ‘lower class’ market if one could come to that conclusion, and from this conclusion one could wonder its reason for its particular location.

Eventually as Simon walks through crowds towards his destination – the plaza brimming with life and noises, whether he is exploring the market shops or straight up moving past the market plaza he would eventually find a child ran past him, even bumping into him quite strongly. Whether a child thief or not, Simon should he check may likely find perhaps some bags of coin or any pouches he may have to be stolen, if they are indeed hanging outside. But no matter, just a few seconds later – a lady shouted just directly behind him.

“H-Hey Oliver! Come back he-!”

Before she could finish her sentence however, the girl bumped into Simon, causing her to fall onto the ground.

Should Simon turn to face the lady, he would notice a well-dressed pretty lady, her hair being perhaps her most distinctive feature, an orange-blonde colour, with a purple ribbon tied behind her hair. Her dress is not exactly either wild west nor steampunk fashion, but carry a medieval theme with gold ornaments, yet instead of a full dress, she wore shorts with boots, an outfit of beauty and adventure. But perhaps what is more attention-seeking is her pistol, holstered on one side.

“O-Ouch….. Hey what’s the big idea!”

The lady fell on her butt, her eyes closed as she speak out against Simon, she has yet to see who would be the person that knocked her down. Yet, for Simon - Meet Selena.

The more time Simon was spending in this town the more the doubt started to settle and nessle in his mind. Everything seemed to be in order, peacefully and dare he even say it. Happy. Were Ivankov-san and the others wrong about this place? Or was this one of these cases where the truth was far more nefarious than he could realize, making it hidden very deep within the core of this town? Who could say at this point? Simon had belief in the others otherwise they wouldn't have sent him here.

As he moved through the market place he finally started to see a mixture of different kinds of people walking about and living their lives. Some dressed with the trademark desperado style. While others embraced the industrialism Rivayle had become known for. Again he kept himself to the back and watched the people. No real need to intervene for his true destination was beyond this point. But that was before fate would start to drag him into something.

"Hey, watch it!"

Simon shouted as he turned around a bit annoyed to the kid who had just bumped into him and left without a word. With his hands in his pockets, the army grunt was in no real panic. Unless this child was skilled enough to lift his hands out of his own pockets to steal his wallet. Then a voice called to him from behind, prompting him to turn around. This caused yet another stranger to run into him, but this one would fall back onto the ground. Just what was going on here all of a sudden?

On the ground was a young lady who looked to be a local to the area. At the very least she dressed like one compared to Simon who could've not looked more stranger than he was.

"I could say the same."

The young man said as he leaned forward and offered a hand to Selena, showing a gesture to help her back on her feet.

"Sorry, the kid that bumped into me distracted me a little bit."

The young man said true and without beating around the bush.

Before Selena realizes she would bump into Simon while apparently chasing someone that she knew, annoyed at the obstacle before her that would ultimately lead to the ever widening gap between her and this ‘Oliver’. Before long this kid would disappear into the crowd whom failed to pickpocket anything off from Simon due to his cautiousness. Selena whom now looks upon her obstacle – open her eyes as she dusted off dirt from her clothes.

“Ugh!”

She quickly stood up, temporarily ignoring Simon as she peers into what is beyond Simon, the sea of crowd.

“Da- Ah he’s gone!”

Selena spoke as she becomes visibly annoyed and irritated, her emotional state is something that even someone like Simon whom never met her would easily see as she sighs in response, mumbling to herself with little

“Sigh… I have to give him a stern talking to later… The church is already hard enough as it is.”

“Sorry bout that, my bad. I’m Selena and I work at the church. I hope you did not fall victim to the kid’s antics.”

Selena spoke, introducing herself in a rather rough manner. The lady continues to remain somewhat flustered, her cheeks puffed up a little as her annoyance slowly subsides away.

“You don’t look like someone that is from Rivayle. A foreigner?”

Selena asked as she too notice how Simon looked, his clothing do not resemble of those from Rivayle, the steampunk-wild west aesthetics. Here Simon would perhaps first meet someone from an ‘organisation’, although it is not something that one may consider a church as an organisation outside of the religious sort, but considering Selena – a church may not be a church in entirety. Regardless of the fact, Simon have met another local of Rivayle – and thus now several options, including walking away is presented upon him.

Simon stood up, moving his hands back into their pockets as Selena introduced herself. His eyes glanced at her while observing her annoyance at what just had happened. "Name's Simon and it doesn't seem like I've lost something." He said, giving himself a quick pat down to check if his wallet and everything else was still in place. Brought back to the matter at hand Simon eyed Selena again when she asked if he was a local. With a cheeky smile, he'd respond to the question even if it was mostly rhetorical.

"Pretty much yeah. I'm on my way to the prosperity office branch. Need some details regarding some mission they put up."

Simon said, revealing perhaps a bit too much given the serious nature of this mission. But his youthful optimism and naiveté threw a wrench into that approach. How Selena would respond to the matter remained to be seen. If she even knew what the mission was exactly. It could be they put up several of them. But it could also be that singular one.

"Their office is still straight ahead, right? Country bumpkins like myself get lost super quickly in such a massive city." The young man said, indirectly asking for directions.
