This tiny island is located in East Blue has a very low population. The island boasted mansions and churches, plus a power station allowing residents to live in relative luxury until when Greed Pirates invaded and took control of the shutter island. The villagers live in fear of these pirates and would likely welcome anyone who would help them to make this island free again.

The small ship made quick of the travel from the Grand Line, all the way to the East Blue, the safest sea in the world. It had only been a couple days since the departure from Karai Bari Island. At the moment Jason himself was manning the helm, steering towards the island ahead of them. Juliet came out from the hold and stepped up next to him, looking down at the man that had joined them to assure they couldn't warn the other targets.

We need to warn the World Government. She whispered, turning to face Jason.

No. Jason shook his head, keeping his eyes forward.

What do you mean, they- Juliet began, but Jason cut him off. We have our target, our mission. The World Government has enough to deal with with the Vampirates. They'll have to make due without a warning, one of them is even an admiral, for gods sake!

Juliet opened her mouth to speak again, but then seemed to change her mind. She only nodded and climbed down onto the deck as the ship neared the coast of Shutter Island. Their ship was headed straight for the small village, and she needed to look out for reactions from the denizens.

The Hunt #1 @Larsi
(hosting slot goes to second char)
The small vessel inched closer to Shutter Island The quiet and small-looking island was a tad larger up close. But not by much. Upon venturing closer and closer an odd mist would intrude upon the island. Seemingly arriving out of nowhere and only ever lingering faintly more like a haze than an actual thick obscuring mist. It wouldn't take long for the duo, and the watchman from Cross Guild, to arrive on the shores of Shutter Island.

The first thing that would greet them was the fishing village that lay at the bottom of the mountain-covered island. At the far top of the mountain was a dilapidated factory that was still blowing smoke to this very day. Didn't the reports say that this island was mostly abandoned? It certainly looked so. The village which housed only a dozen or so wooden buildings hadn't exactly survived the test of time. And in all honesty, these were the only ones who could realistically hold and shelter people. Many more buildings surrounded the village but most of them were broken or had failed to survive during these harsh times.

To say that Jason and Juliet had received a warm welcome was an understatement. They wouldn't be able to escape the feeling that they were being watched from behind the planked-up windows. Sometimes they could even see yellow dots for eyes behind them but whether that was a fact or the mind playing tricks on them was uncertain.

The tension surrounding this place was palpable and could choke ordinary folk. It'd be a miracle if the people here were still sane after all these years. Even the neutral party from Cross Guild could feel the sweat rolling down his face.

"Achtung....Achtung....."

A speaker suddenly blared from the top of the mountain, its shriek certainly startling at least one of the 3 new arrivals. A broken piece of machinery that no one bothered to replace? The sudden sound would've surely triggered their attention upwards and when they'd cast their eyes back downwards they'd only catch the shadow of a person. Running towards one of the few dozen 'healthy' buildings in this village at the far end of this village. Beyond that particular house was the pathway that led up the mountain.

Something strange was certainly going on here. Something unnatural.

It was an oppressive feeling that settled over the small group as they closed the last distance to their target. Seemingly swallowed my mist, Juliet and the Cross Guild representative both needed to look out for objects in the water, lest they break the ship on the rocks. Luckily they managed to pull through and reach the shore and remnants of the village without incident, though none of them felt any more at ease. Settling against the dock and fastening their ship to the moorings, Jason and Juliet departed their vessel. The Cross Guild representative remained back to watch the ship, though if he felt more safe there than with them was debatable.

Stepping off the aging planks onto solid ground, the two agents scanned the structures around them. They all seemed ready to collapse from lack of care, windows boarded up. Yet they both had the feeling of being watched from all around. Were the villagers inside, too scared to come out? Jason was about to suggest that they check the buildings to ask around when a loud noise washed over them from up the mountain. Both of them startled, but Juliet lost her balance and almost fell.

Jason's head snapped up to look to see a glance of something that looked like a human up there, at the top of a single path. Absently he grabbed Juliet and steadied her. She followed his eyes and narrowed her own to focus better.
Feels like a trap.

I agree. Jason said, starting towards the path and the climb up the mountains. Let's spring it.

The unsettling vibe continued as the two agents ran in pursuit of the figure. And if they observed closely they'd notice that the houses were barred from the outside as if to keep something or someone inside rather than the other way around. Which would normally be the case in these sort of things. Within but a mere moments the two would nearly catch up to the figure and almost catching a glimpse of it but it quickly vanished into a random building. A house that had more or less survived the test of time, standing at the crossroads between a path that continued along the bach or upwards to the mountain side. The fog that lingered around their ankles was a lot more prominent towards the mountain but before they could even decide a voice from behind them would most likely startle Juliet.

"Beeeri..money...I...do you have coooin for me?"

When turning around the two agents would observe an ordinary villager but obviously twisted. His clothes were ragged as if he had lived in the wilds for the past decade. Skin dehydraded and lips chapped, licking them every moment or so. Hunched over, the male villager looked at the two with blood shot eyes.

"YOu got it right? Money...I..I need it!"

The man without any intent of backing off would lunge at Juliet, whether she actually carried coin or not did not matter to this man. They were fresh meat so to speak, and he went for it. With his right hand moving towards her throat he would aim to pin her towards the ground. But by all accounts this man was frail and weak, whether he'd succeed was unlikely. But at this very moment Jason would notice the crescendo of moans, planks from the buildings nearby would begin to fall down as villagers were making their way through.

"Cooooin...."
"GIVE IT TO ME!"
"They took it all!"
"fault fault fault fault fault'"
"ITS HIS FAULT!"

A cacaphony of voices and moans, these people were clearly deranged. And beneath it all the figure they chased was moving about in the house nearby, clearly doing something.

How would the assassin react to this unnatural situation?

"Beeeri..money...I...do you have coooin for me?"
Juliet quite literally jumped in reaction to hearing the voice from just behind her. A yelp escaped her mouth as she spun to face the speaker, a man who seemed like he had not seen civilization for half his life. Her hand was on her gun before she finished turning, yet she managed to restrain herself from actually pulling out the weapon. Actually comprehending the man's words gave her pause and she stood still, taking him in. And so it was that she was unable to react in time as the man lunged out for her throat, ragged skin seeking hers.
"YOu got it right? Money...I..I need it!"
Hold it there. Jason's hand wrapped around the wrist of the man, twisting and pulling in a swift move that would send a shock of pain up the man's arm and shoulder, forcing his to his knees but not cause actual harm. Should he make try to move out of the grip he would be faced with more pain. It was then that more figures would appear, moaning in pain and calling out to the two of them where they stood.
"Cooooin...."
"GIVE IT TO ME!"
"They took it all!"
"fault fault fault fault fault'"
"ITS HIS FAULT!"
WHOSE FAULT? Jason shouted at the top of his lungs, focusing on some of the words of the crowd. He was hoping to clear the noise for long enough for him to speak to them. We are here on a.... mission to capture Captain Nicolas of the Greed Pirates and his subordinates. If you can tell us where to find him, we can give you some coins afterwards.

However.
Jason twisted again, sending a spasms of pain down the man's arm. I will not allow you to cause either of us any harm.

With clear and solid judgement Jason intercepted the stranger's move and forced him to his knees. The man, strangely enough, hardly struggled against this move. Either out of its indifference or because it instantly knew the vast difference between him and Jason. In an attempt to clear the situation, Jason shouted against the now-growing mob of people, each in a state of disrepair. However, one word managed to stop them in their tracks. The name of Captain Nicolas. But that moment of quiet lasted only a second, for more and more blocked houses began to unleash its inhabitants. With each passing second this mob started to become a horde, two agents against an entire village.

"He...cursed...us" A voice called, struggling against whatever ailment was plaguing these people. A moment of clarity within the madness.
"the...coin...destr..greed...the cause" the voice within the mob continued but the moment vanished and a mindless husk took its place.

And the moaning continued.

"give it back"
"give it back"
"ours, it is ours"

The horde continued to move toward Jason and Juliet. And if either of them had a keen eye they'd spot a small mink with frog-like features, moving between the horde. Using it quite literally as a human shield. The path behind them was open and without resistance but one of their targets was through the villagers. The trap had been sprung but whether it was on purpose remained to be seen.

"Kekekeke" a voice laughed within the moaning of the crowd, its tone quite sinister and twisted.

Jason almost thought he had broke through to them when one of them stopped momentarily, speaking in response to his words. His relief was only temporary however, as they almost immediately returned back to their previous behavior, moving in senseless unison towards the two agents. They could likely get away from these people by ease, but it was possible they would target the boat with the Cross Guild representative, and their only sure way out of this place.

Something is wrong here. Jason said to Juliet as he activated his observation haki, taking in his surroundings fully. His eyes fell on a green shape moving inbetween the throng of citizens. Piercing the noise that filled the area, he was able to pick out the voice of the mink, laughing to himself. Leaning in towards Juliet, Jason whispered just loud enough that she could hear him. Distract them for a bit, will you?

With that he pushed the arm he was still holding forward, hoping to send the man sprawling forward on the ground in pain from the shock. Tapping his feet rapidly on the ground, to the citizens it would seem as if Jason disappeared, moving at his peak speed. A split second later he emerged from his burst of Soru next to the frog mink, arm cocked and ready to strike. Firing a single punch, he aimed towards what he hoped was the exposed back of his foe.

With quick and decisive judgment, Jason rushed forward with inhuman speed, thanks to the deployment of Soru. He caught up to the frog Mink in the blink of an eye. By the time the agent was next to our frog friend, the other mindless husks remained oblivious, distracted by Juliette, with the thought of Jason far from their minds.

As Jason was mere moments away from launching his punch, the frog Mink could only manage a feeble "Ke?" in response, as Jason's speed completely outclassed the Mink. The force of the blow struck the frog's back and sent him hurtling towards a nearby house, toppling it upon impact.

21-40: 2. Small Building Level = Normal damage

Emerging from the debris, Merrimack used his Lute to blast away the rubble surrounding him. Following this, he threw the instrument towards Jason with impressive strength and speed, but the attack lacked finesse, making it easy for Jason to counter or evade. Regardless of Jason's choice, the distraction provided an opportunity for the Mink to leap up and launch an arrow of lightning at the agent.

"Blitz Arrow!" the Mink shouted, releasing a mid-range electrical arrow towards Jason.

21-40: 0. Street Level /Lute thrown

Blitz arrow
21-40: 0. Street Level +1(C) = 41-60: 1. Wall/Tree Level
Minor paralysis: affected moves slower slightly. lasts for 2 turns

Could he avoid the small combination attack?

Juliet remained where she was, her eyes darting across the crowd that was drawing ever closer to her. Determined to complete her task and not being caught off guard again, she fell into a combat stance, one leg forwards and both arms raised ready to strike or defend herself. Come at me then, is it coin you want?

Jason meanwhile successfully struck the mink, sending him flying into a nearby house, crushing it entirely on impact. The agent was surprised by the result, the houses here had to be built shoddily for it to topple so easily. Regardless he started walking towards the ruins, only for the frog to emerge from the rubble, throwing its lute towards Jason in what seemed like a half measured attempt to damage him.

Not bothering to sidestep the attack, Jason grabbed the lute by its neck, holding with its body upwards much like one would wield a mace. His enemy was not planning on letting him rest however, immediately launching a follow up attack. Seeing that it sparking with electricity Jason had no desire to be reached by this attack, and as such he seemingly returned the lute to its owner. Throwing it like one would a small axe, he sent the lute spinning through the air with the full force of his strength, as well as imbued with haki, something he had only just recently achieved.

Colliding with the arrow, the wood in the lute would splinter and spark, but otherwise overcome the enemy's attack. Moving on through the air, the lute would be aimed to crash into the mink.

You are Merrimack, are you not?

A desperate attempt. It was nothing more than that when Merrimack threw his lute towards the agent. Jason himself saw through it from a mile and caught the lute by its neck in mid-spin. When Merrimack charged his lightning arrow and fired it that same lute was used as a means to defend himself. But compared to when the mink had thrown it, it had a lot more power and ran through the lightning arrow and straight towards Merrimack. A lot of wood, and internal compartments were blown away from that initial clash but it still held some power. Luckily its last remnants weren't anything the mink couldn't handle. A quick karate chop would deflect and destroy the lute in one swift movement.

With a few well-timed hops, the frog would make its way back to the ground. Palms, or whatever Frog Minks had, still charged with electricity.

"Yes, and who might you be? No, let me guess. Here after the treasure aren't you? You can't have it...no no no no no. It is the captain. I mean mine, or was it ours?"

The frog replied with what at first seemed the first being here that had some sanity left remaining. But Jason would observe quickly that that moment of sanity was brief and very fleeting. Something plagues this land that much was clear. Merrimack then took out a necklace to the forefront, previously hidden beneath his shirt. If Jason was quick enough he'd find a piece of a bronze coin to be wrapped around it. As if it was crudely broken off a normal coin. But more detail he'd be unable to attain. At least not from this distance. The Mink would give the piece a short kiss before he'd start radiating a strange energy.

"I won't share..."

Merrimack said as seemingly out of nowhere a perfect copy of him appeared. Making his last statement rather ironic.

Elsewhere Juliet was holding off the horde who had lost all attention to the two fighting behind them. Their eyes were solely on Juliet, moaning and slowly approaching her with almost overwhelming numbers. She took a defensive position and blurted out something to draw their attention further. But weirdly enough, they all stopped all of a sudden. Before Juliet 100 individuals had stopped moving.

"Coin?" They all said one by one.
"Throw a doubloon far away, quickly!" A voice sharply whispered from behind her. Coming from the lone house that stood before the uphill path. Was this another ploy from the horde? Or did this town have someone sane that was left?

The frog creature stood firm in the face of his trusty lute having been caught and thrown back with greater strength than before, enough that it even overpowered his follow up attack. A quick strike with his arm and Merrimack dispatched the broken instrument, splinters and strings falling to the ground before him.

It seemed he didn’t care about the destruction of his lute, yet it was hardly a surprising revelation, given how quickly he had used it as a weapon. Skipping forward, Merrimack quickly made his way free from the rubble, speaking in response to Jason naming him. His speech started out rather normal, but even before finishing his first sentence he seemed to derail. Before finishing, he had devolved into nearly incoherent babbling.

Jason started to approach, cautiously, only for Merrimack to pull out a medallion of sorts from within his shirt, holding it up to his mouth and giving it a kiss. Strange behavior indeed. The Cipher Pol agent couldn’t make out any details, other than that it looked sort of like a coin, yet wrong.

Jason’s train of thought was cut short as Merrimack spoke again, talking about refusing to share. With Jason? With the villagers? With anyone in general? The mink seemed unwilling to elaborate, instead he seemed to perform some sort of spell with the amulet. Appearing as if from nothing next to Merrimack, was another Merrimack.

Jason, who was still approaching now paused, cautious of his opponent’s abilities. Was this a devil fruit? Maybe some sort of illusion? Well, at least he knew which one was the real one. Right? Unless the mink had performed some sleight of body, swapping himself with a clone.

No no, he had to be sure. The first one was Merrimack, the new one was Werriwack in Jason’s mind. Yes, though the original could also be described like this.

Well, time to deal with Werriwack first. Jason raised his leg and kicked it horizontally in the direction of the version of Merrimack that had appeared from thin air moments ago. From the bottom of his feet a blade of air flew forth, aiming to cut into Werriwack straight across his torso. From there Jason would wait for the Merrimacks’ reactions.

Juliet thought maybe she had screwed up well and good this time. What if she couldn’t get out of this? There were A LOT of people in this crowd, she couldn’t fight this many, at best she could run away from them, but if she did that then they might turn back on Jason.

She was broken free from her thoughts as a voice spoke up from directly behind her. She turned towards the source, a house just up the hill. This was clearly not someone as far gone as the ones around her, so maybe she should hear out whoever it was.

Digging into her pocket she pulled out a single coin, raising it high above her head between her middle and index finger.
Yes!

A coin! She shouted, hoping to draw the attention of all of them. She would wait only a few seconds before throwing it down one of the streets between the buildings. She had intentionally aimed it away from the way they had come, so they wouldn’t rush down to the dock and their boat. It’s a gift!

Should the people be drawn by the coin, which almost seemed unbelievable to her, she would try to squeeze through the throng, making her way to the building up ahead that she had heard the voice from.

The agent paused a bit when Merrimack revealed his double ability. Whether its source was an illusion or a special ability would be unknown to Jason. While still wary of his opponent he still went forward with an offensive focus. A singular rankyaku was thrown towards Werriwack, the copy frog. The two minks looked on as the blade flew with terrifying speed and sliced the ground it travelled through. Merrimack would move his hands towards his brother and he did the same, like a mirror match. Electricity flowed through their hands as they cupped and focused the energy into a sphere of pure electricity.

"Blitz Arrow!"
21-40: 0. Street Level +2(B) = 61-80: 2. Small Building Level
Your attack is 1 DPR higher: Overwhelms the weaker attack but loses 5 DPR
= cancel?

The sphere after a short charge was thrown and manipulated into an electrical arrow, now with much more force and power to it. Even though Jason's attack was stronger than the combo move from the Merrimacks it still detonated before his target. The remnants of the force would most likely never reach the two frogs, but it'd cause a sudden jolt of smoke and force to be lifted upwards. Obscuring the two minks from view for a short moment. Once the dust had settled one of them moved forward, electricity coursing through his arms. And because of the smoke, Jason would begin to question.

Had they swapped positions? Who's who?

From an aura and appearance standpoint, these two creatures were identical. As if someone had copied the mink or he had a twin brother.

Regardless of whatever questions would plague Jason before long one of the brothers would be in front of him, two palms raised as a flurry of attacks was launched towards him. It aims to damage and stun him.

21-40: 0. Street Level +1(C) = 41-60: 1. Wall/Tree Level

If Jason could keep his focus on the attack and the other brother he'd notice that he too had left his original position. But with a frog leap, he headed towards both Jason and his brother.

------------------------------------------
Like an illusionist, Juliet had the mob entirely wrapped around her finger. Every single one of them focused on that single coin in her hand. And when she threw it forward, down the road opposite to the hill path the mob simply moaned and moved in pursuit. Sluggish and each step before the next. Never sprinting but also not walking. A true mindless horde.

Reliefed and perhaps flabbergasted Juliet would make her way to the origin of the voice. It was just a couple of meters behind her. A singular house that stood near the road that led up to the mountain. Only now would Juliet make out two larger buildings up this path, a power station and a church. Both of which seemed to show signs of life, for light shone from within.

As Juliet made her way towards the house, the front door would open up. "Quickly! That won't distract them for too long." The voice called, definitely male from the sound of it, beckoning her to move swiftly. Would this be the right call to make? The one who had opened the door stood behind it. Most likely they could shut it down in one quick movement.

Jason settled down to watch what the two Merrimacks would do with the attack he had launched. He was surprised to see that both of them would perform the same motion, channeling electricity in their hands and unleashing it as a counter to the agent’s own move. Colliding in the middle of the air, the electric orb and rankyuaru exploded into a wide swath of smoke to cover the area for a moment, concealing the two sides from one another.

Jason cursed beneath his breath, knowing he no longer would be able to know exactly which one was the real out of the two of them. Or if even the real one was among them anymore. Maybe in the short moment another clone had been created and the real had hidden himself somewhere.

There was little time to think about it however, as one of the Merrimacks rushed Jason, electricity sparking from the mink’s arms as he started unleashing a flurry of attacks towards the agent.

Not knowing if it was the real one or not, and knowing he could not kill the frog creature, Jason bit his lip in annoyance. His hands coated in haki, the agent threw a set of simple punches against his assailant. Slower, but packing more power, the punches would break through the different attacks. Jason’s innate strength was enough and would push past the strikes of Merrimack. Coupled with the haki, Jason would be largely protected from the electro, although his arms were feeling somewhat numb.

Having countered the first Merrimack, Jason began the follow up attack. Tapping his foot on the ground, he increased his speed as much as he had before, at the beginning of the fight. Holding both arms out horizontally, he rushed forward using soru, no longer using haki. His right arm aimed to clothesline the first Merrimack across his torso, while his left arm aimed to do the same to the other. He hoped to utilize his far superior speed to catch both of them off guard and discover which one was the real one, without having to accidentally kill the mink.

Juliet rushed up the street, hearing the voice ahead urging her on. Allowing herself one last glimpse at the horde behind, she hoped they would not go for Jason before he could deal with the enemy. Ahead, she barely saw the person inside, behind the door and she hoped she hadn’t made a mistake listening to them. Well, she wasn’t going to let herself get caught off guard again, she thought to herself as she approached the door.

Stepping inside the building, she spun around and pulled a gun out from inside her coat, aiming it towards the stranger behind the door. Immediately, she would cock the hammer and speak quickly, but quietly.
Who are you? What is going on here!

Jason decided to go with the non-lethal way of doing things. That was not surprising given the objectives he had to follow that Cross Guild had set him up with. These pirates had to come with him alive if he wished to get any bonuses out of them. The flurry of palm strikes would be met with a salvo of haki-infused punches. They were more than capable of breaking through these attacks and even hurt the mink at the very same time. While the damage was minimal, it had Jason's desired effect.

With this opening Jason in quick succession would tap his feet on the ground and execute Soru, boosting his speed far beyond what these minks would be able to follow. Both arms would ram into the two Minks at top speed and with rib-breaking strength. Both would cough up what seemed to be blood but only the one on Jason's right would lose consciousness, the one on the right would fade out and eventually crumble. Turned to dust the duplicate was no more, only a singular Berri coin would be left in the large pile of dust and debris this clone had left behind.

The true Merrimack had been unmasked and rendered unconscious by Jason's power.

Juliet meanwhile had made it inside the house and pulled her weapon, cocking it in one swift motion. It'd allow her a very swift response in case she needed it. But when the light inside filled her eyes and adjusted she'd see that it was hardly needed. The man opened the door and threw up his arms in response. He was older and wore what seemed to be a set of rags or what one might see as a very cheap set of clothes.

"My name is Corvo and I mean no harm. We come in peace and quickly close that door. Before they notice." The older man appealed to Juliet's common sense.

She'd noticed that she was in a tiny living room. Perhaps 50²m if one had to guess. But inside and behind the older gentleman were 5 others. Two young children, a boy and a girl, a man in clerk clothes, a wounded soldier apparent by his sword and revolver on his right hip. And lastly, a scholar who was going through some papers in the corner, having not a care in the world. Beside the scholar, the others looked on with clear tension in their eyes. Especially the boy and girl looked on with true fear in their eyes. The wounded soldier braced himself. Dragging himself up by supporting his arm on a nearby table, his left arm was bandaged as was his ankle. He had seen some battle. But even with that in mind, he was determined to defend these people, if need be.

How would Juliet deescalate this, if she'd even do so at all?

The Hunt #8 @Guren

Jason’s gambit had paid off, his rush coming to a halt with the double effect of neutralizing both Merrimacks. The clone burst into debris and dust, leaving only the single coin to fall to the ground. It was clear to Jason that he had hit the real version of the frog mink when he made contact with the creature, feeling the more solid shape that his arm slammed into.

Thrown backwards, the unconscious body of the mink crashed into the ground. Managing to come to a halt without tipping over, Jason looked around, seeing the horde of villagers rushing away from the square. He thought he had seen Juliet run in a different direction and trusted her to keep herself safe, even despite their numbers, so he made sure his task was completed. Stepping up to Merrimack, he could still sense the mink’s lifeforce, so he knew he hadn’t failed at least. Neither did the target move once he leaned down and pulled out a section of rope and tied him up well. Once satisfied with his knots and that Merrimack wouldn’t be able to easily break free even once he regained consciousness, Jason looked up towards where Juliet had ran towards.

Was she in any danger? Not unlikely, given their current welcome. Jason decided he didn’t have time to deliver Merrimack down to the boat, instead he would hide him. And so it was not much later that he exited the ruins of the house Merrimack had broken minutes earlier, having hidden the mink under some rubble to retrieve him later. Now, he walked up the path that would lead him past the house Juliet was in, as were several other people. He kept his color of observation active, making sure to sense for people that could be a trap.

Juliet pulled the door shut behind her without looking, obliging the words of the man. Her eyes darted from him to the other people present, even as her gun was leveled at the initial man. Seeing the different people and the state they were in gave her pause. None of them seemed threatening, not the children, not the clerk or the scholar. Maybe the soldier, but he clearly wasn’t doing well, having not even pulled out his gun yet.

I’m sorry for being distrustful. Juliet said, lowering the barrel but not putting away the weapon. She didn’t trust them fully, and was not going to be caught unaware again. The last person that welcomed us here tried to attack me.

She sighed, leaning against the wall to the side of the door. We are agents of the World Government. We are here… She was apprehensive to admit it was not directly a World Government sanction mission. …to apprehend the pirate known as Nicolas, as well as his henchmen. Could you tell me what is going on here?

While Jason was sorting his affairs and making sure he could retrieve Merrimack later Juliet was starting to see the reality of the situation. She had found survivors, those that were still clear of mind. Not yet warped by whatever was going on here. And when she stated she was a member of the World Government, those in the back started whispering and looking at one another.

"Took you long enough, there's hardly anything left!" Given the circumstances, the wounded soldier in the back said, hardly a bad take.

The older man, who one could assume was the elder, intervened and pulled up his arm—motioning him to stop while shaking his head.

"There's no need to put it on this young girl, Pierre. It's not like we made any requests we're partially to blame for this situation."
"Always the mediator, fine, tell her the tale then Rodrick."

Rodrick the elder but in reality, the mayor of Shutter Island, took a chair and sat down. Age wasn't looking down upon him with fairness. The two children sat down on the ground and returned to their colouring book. Already knowing the tale that was about to come.

"Nicolas and his henchmen came down upon this island a few weeks ago, searching for a well-famed treasure. They were well-behaved, for pirates at least. And for the most part, they left us alone while they searched the island. That changed when they found the treasure, a singular gold berri coin. One that, allegedly, goes back centuries ago. With a value that reaches into the billions. What they didn't know, was that this coin was cursed. It was a foul thing that quickly spread like a plague. Obsessed with the thing the 3 officers became, killed their entire crew over it. Except for each other, they were in a deadlock of some sort, neither could finish the other." Rodrick said, moving his hand over his right leg, soothing his aching joints.

"We should've finished them then and there, then we wouldn't be in this mess." Pierre interrupted, holding his own views on the events that happened.

"Uhum. In any event, the 3 officers. Nicholas, Merrimack and Bob fought each other for days upon days. Eventually, they in a twisted turn of events broke this singular coin 3 ways. Each holding a fragment of it and it is here that the coin cursed those closest to that battle. The officers, content with each having a piece. Seeing it as the true coin, went off their merry way. The people of Shutter Island, now roam the lands, trying to find the pieces and put them back together. As if the cursed object is willing it, using this plague to steer its desires."

"That's the short version of it. Merrimack's domain was the harbour and the remnants of this little town. Bob's domain is right up the path and Nicholas holds the power plant. Luckily, the majority of the people roam here. Once you go up the path you'll be free of resistance. For the most part at least. Pierre told me the Greed Pirates now wield strange abilities not unlike those you see in devil fruit abilities."

"I'm pretty sure they didn't eat any fruit that was lying here."

"Please, aid us. You've got to apprehend these people. But I'm at a loss as to how to lift this curse."
Rodrick said, pleading. But perhaps this island was a lost cause.

It was a lot to digest for Juliet and perhaps for Jason if he lingered to listen to the story. Most of what the mayor was saying fit with his own experience. When Merrimack touched that strange coin he did indeed receive a strange ability. But why was a cursed object gifting this? One would wonder.

One thing that Jason would pick up on through his mantra was a quick blimp from behind him. Right on the mark where he hid Merrimack. And when he turned nothing was there but the mink itself was also still there. Aura is fine but clearly asleep.

They couldn't have snatched the Mink's coin, right?
