I actually hated it the first time I played as well. Its not as good at trad and there is always claim flying around everywhere. The worst part is that I never trust the claims because of the mechanics. To me ToL is the best, fell in love instantly but we only ever got like one game during OJ days

Throne of lies. We played like two games during OJ days it was extremely fun. Bounty hosted it. The game is on steam as well but my PC can't run it. It is more balanced and waay more fun than ToS and yet we always stuck with ToS instead not sure why though.

Its as easy to host as ToS. Also standard game in ToL is 8-10 players and thus easy to fill.

Secret Wars
7 × Survivor
1 x Jester
4 x Vigilante
1 x Mafioso
2 x Blackmailer

The first thing is Survivors start the game with near majority at 7 slots and anything that isn't them is a threat to their win condition. Survs only have four vests, up against 12 vig shots, maf kill, jest kill and daily lynch. The sooner town and maf sort it out the better.

With surv majority being a key factor, it is recommended that everybody claims survivor to begin with. Non survivors are dangerous and will most likely immediately be lynched for surv safety


Next up is vigs, the four vigis represent a potential 4 kills per night. More bullets total than there are non vigs. They only need the three maf dead and none of the maf are ever bulletproof, neutral casualties on the way are no sweat.

Shooting one of your three fellow vigs in this mode is especially catastrophic and you'll need to carefully consider every shot you make. Surv targets are equal to non surv targets at 7 while vig targets match maf targets at 3, a constant state of coinflip.

Next is the Jester, here to shake up the lynch by existing. The unpredictable Jester achieving their wincon is bad news for someone, surv can't vest against that and the kill squads are small factions.

Of course Jester has no vests and every night is sitting duck night. Find your way out quickly.


Finally the mafia, 1 Mafioso and 2 Blackmailers. No basic defence for any of them and Mafioso leads so no promotion to Godfather possible. They need to deal with the Vig Squad before the net of bullets closes in on them.

The Blackmailers are there for the whisper games, extra whispers will be included in this game. The bonus whispers make a secret communication network that mafia has full access to.

Ally with Survs, help the Jester, bait a Vig, All sorts of shady deals will be made via whispers, that's why this is called Secret Wars

They can also just straight up silence people whenever they want, or pretend they got silenced to throw off vigs.
