Sephiroth's knee collided with Kogami's abdomen, pushing him away. Sephiroth had expected much more from his own attack, but Kogami's body seemed to be tempered with a strong, natural armor that even Sephiroth would have trouble breaking at this point in time.

Tsch...

Sephiroth grimaced, realizing that he was now, undoubtedly, at a disadvantage. However, Kogami's behavior was strange. He seemed somewhat... crazed. Like he was under the influence of a drug. Sephiroth knew that he had no way of beating Kogami in his current state, so there was only one strategy that he could bank on. Hold out long enough for Kogami's empowered state to run its course, and then mount a well timed, instantaneous counterattack.

Sephiroth closed his eyes momentarily and took a deep breath, recollecting himself. There was something else that Sephiroth could bank on. A new power. Kogami's body was stronger than Sephiroth's own at this moment in time, but there was Haki. Sephiroth was calm, collected, and focused. Kogami was crazed. The Lunarian would use this to his advantage. (Just an IC way of describing the 41 to 69 COO mastery difference)

Kogami disappeared from his position, utilizing Soru to move faster than ever before. But, Sephiroth, focusing on his Kenbun-shoku no Haki, a power the name of which he did not even know yet, but was already using on a high level instinctively, would react in time. When Kogami appeared in front of Sephiroth, hurling his ten black Busou-shoku no Haki clad claws toward Sephiroth, the Lunarian retorted in kind with his own attack. Stepping forward, Sephiroth erupted with a blazing aura of fire while bringing his left forearm up. Kogami's ten claws and Sephiroth's left forearm would ram into one another, the collision generating enough power to evaporate the raindrops near them, before the rain picked up even more.

Having used his free, left arm for the attack - while Kogami had used both of his arms for his own attack - Sephiroth now had an opportunity for a counterattack with his blazing sword. He swung the sword diagonally upward, the blade engulfed in a spiraling vortex of fire, aiming to cut Kogami, as well as enough him in a blast of fire.

Like a bullet Kogami had pushed himself towards Sephiroth. The agent figured without a doubt that his attack would land, but surprisingly he'd parry the Jusshigan. His left arm, coated with incredible fire and a quick dash forward for added momentum allowed him to clash evenly. Kogami would frown, this sudden call back to earth would pierce his high. The two attacks of high enough power to cancel out one another. Sephiroth quickly went for a counter now that Kogami was open and without a guard. The agent widened his eyes and responded through reflex and instinct by a quick hop to the side. But it still wasn't fast enough. Kogami could only look at how the very tip of Sephiroth's weapon would be moments away from drawing a nasty cut. The only thing he could use to mitigate was haki for his reaction allowed just that.

The blade heated with fire would cut through Kogami's haki and drew a considerable amount of blood, creating a large gash through his upper body. Luckily through his evasion it wasn't life threatening as it normally would've been. Another, unforeseen side effect from the Divine Demon technique was that the blood Sephiroth drew was expelled like a jet. Spraying towards Sephiroth and most likely towards his eyes, given their proximity to one another. Blood quickly coagulated afterward, the rate the heart was pumping sealed combined with life return healed this slash beyond what a regular human could. But blinded by that move or not, Kogami would slice through his right leg. And from it the signature blue air wave flew towards Sephiroth, aimed to take advantage of the Lunarian's perhaps blinded state.

"Rankyaku!"

After launching his projectile, Kogami would land on the ground on his back before flipping to a skid on his knees. His beating heart getting louder and louder by the minute.

Agent Kogami and Sephiroth clashed, the former bringing forward his ten claws, while the latter brought forward a forearm strike, their Hakis colliding with great might. Sephiroth had the advantage, however, for Kogami now had nothing to guard with, and Sephiroth had his sword at the ready. Slashing diagonally upward, Sephiroth aimed to cut Kogami down. However, Kogami had enough time to react, whether it was through sheer skill or the state of empowerment, or a combination of both. The sword slashed Kogami's abdomen, drawing a large amount of blood and inflicting a deep wound, but not enough to cut the man down.

Kogami jumped backward to avoid a fatal blow, while the blood from the gushing wound hit Sephiroth. He managed to close his eyes on time, but the result was there nonetheless - an opening. Kogami swung his leg, unleashing a Rankyaku. Sephiroth, knowing that he was exposed due to his impaired eyesight, spun around, swinging his sword with a large amount of fire trailing. He unleashed a tornado of fire around himself, wisps of black Busou-shoku no Haki flowing, acting as a barrier against Kogami's incoming flying slash.

The flying slash and the fire tornado collided equally, both powers fizzling out after a few second long clash. The heat from all the fire ascended up into the atmosphere, and the rain was now pouring strongly. Sephiroth wiped the blood off of his face, only bits of it remaining. His long white hair quickly became wet from the rain, as did his clothing. Sephiroth was breathing heavily, at this point quite exhausted from the fighting. And yet, Kogami looked like he was only getting stronger. Gritting his teeth and tightening the grip on his sword, Sephiroth contemplated what he could do.

Tsch... this isn't looking too good. When is this guy going to run out of energy?

Another stalemate between Kogami and Sephiroth. Both fighters have situated themselves on opposite sides once more. Their battle gathered more and more heat which the atmosphere took in. Forcing rain down onto the earth in higher numbers. Sephiroth's exhaustion started to get to him as he was inching towards his limit. The agent on the other hand felt more alive than ever before. The thumping of his heart now at max speed. This was the agent's final form, his maximum output. And he'd show his new might towards Sephiroth without wasting any more time.

"This is it...true strength...perhaps...Yes I can definitely do that now!" Kogami said, talking more to himself than his opponent. His mind overwhelmed by the stimuli this form gave him.

Hair stood higher as his skin turned an even brighter red. Muscles bulged and Kogami dashed off with Soru, gaining a level of speed that gave Sephiroth only a very minute window to respond. The man was actually blurring this time. Reappearing in front of Sephiroth, a meter or so away from him, with both his arms extended

"Rokushiki Ogi: Rokuogan!"

The agent shouted as from his fists a concentrated blast of energy was launched, heading towards Sephiroth's abdomen and perhaps through him as well. The energy should it make contact would reverberate through his body, damaging nearly every bone in his body. The force would be recoiled back into Kogami who upon unleashing the attack would cough up a serious amount of blood. Clearly this was a double-edged attack and one the man prior to this day had never used before in his life. He was clumsy and inexperienced with it, the time between him shouting and firing was a solid second. Compared to a master who'd have launched it within an instant. It'd give Sephiroth the time he needed to avoid or shield himself.

The rain intensified. Sephiroth started to breathe heavily, while Agent Kogami looked more revitalized than ever before. Grimacing, Sephiroth knew that he was playing a dangerous game, but it was the game that he had to bet on. He had no other choice. He would continue to stand, until Kogami finally overheated. Sephiroth sheathed his sword and imbued his arms with black Busou-shoku no Haki.

Fire erupted around him, a blazing aura burning any that would come close. However, Kogami did not care. Utilizing Soru, he disappeared from his location and appeared in front of Sephiroth, going for a powerful attack. Kogami's fists came forward, and from his fists, he unleashed a powerful shockwave. Sephiroth, simultaneously to Kogami, also attacked - hurling his left arm forward as the fire around him surrounded his fist, compressed and focused. Kogami's two fists and Sephiroth's one fist would collide. From Kogami's fists, a shockwave was unleashed. From Sephiroth's fist, a blast of fire was unleashed. Their Hakis collided and the force generated from the clash instantly blew away every drop of rain that was around them in that moment.

As their Hakis grappled for supremacy, the shockwave of the Rokuougan pushed through, running up Sephiroth's arm and blowing him away. Sephiroth came crashing into the wall next to the broken window that led to the office. His collision with the wall kicked up a dust cloud, though it was quickly washed away by the strong rain that was now falling. Sephiroth was seen falling onto his left knee, breathing heavily. His left arm was hanging, limp, heavily bruised, with purple spots under the skin, signaling internal bleeding and likely turn muscles. His arm was definitely done for the fight.

Eyes bloodshot, Sephiroth glared at Kogami. His survival instincts were starting to kick in, and it was clear that Sephiroth was turning into a demon desperate for survival. His right hand reached for the hilt of the sword sheathed on his left hip. Fire erupted around him once more, now engulfing his wings as well. Sephiroth flapped his wings and pushed off of the ground, disappearing from his position. He appeared in front of Kogami, stepping in close and unsheathing his sword. In one fluid motion, Sephiroth unsheathed the sword and swung it diagonally upward in the form of a blitz fast, incredibly precise and sharp Iaido slash. As the sword left the scabbard, it dragged fire behind it, creating a powerful, infernal, black Busou-shoku no Haki clad Iaido slash.

The two fighters were at their end and reaching their respective limit. The only difference was that one knew his limit and the other was oblivious to it. Punches were launched, and a massive clash occurred evaporating any droplet of rain that came into contact with them. Water simply seized to be at this point in time. Sephiroth was launched back having sustained significant damage. Kogami remained standing but equally had to lower his back to gasp for air. The man, still on his high, recovered very quickly. The Divine demon state had reached its apex. His body was screaming to halt everything but the man couldn't see reason any longer nor would he listen to it. In but a few moments, however, his body would decide for him.

Sephiroth equally enraged now took matter in his own hands and dashed towards Kogami with an Iai strike, hoping to settle this once and for all. Fire trailed behind him like a bullet or perhaps a comet would be a better comparison. Gendo could not help but grin like a child from his desk at witnessing Sephiroth's true power, now finally realized. And how he couldn't imagine what the man would be like a few months from now. It pained him to not be around to witness the grand strength of his herald.

The two strikes were launched at nearly identical moments in time. Sephiroth would, most likely but not assuming, flash past Kogami who had responded with a rankyaku to parry this flash attack. It was unbelievable how the man could still respond as quick as he did considering everything that had happened up until this point. Still, Sephiroth had managed to graze the man by his shoulder. His flash strike carried too much power for the rankyaku to block completely.

Kogami would stand still and took a look at his body, grazing even his shoulder blood completely soaking his hand. Rationality was slowly returning which meant only one thing. His body was taking control and forcing him to stop this self destruction. Sadly his opponent still lived, and the agent would take the self destruction route. He started spinning around his right leg at insane speeds. Drawing air and water all around him in an impressive vortex.

"This is it, destroyer! I'll see you in the afterlife!"

The man shouted as the spinning finally came to a very abrupt halt, and he swung with his right leg his most powerful rankyaku ever. The slice omnidirectional and headed to slice everything in its path.

"Rankyaku Amanedachi!"

Sephiroth swung his sword, blitzing past Kogami. Kogami swung his leg, unleashing a Rankyaku that parried Sephiroth's swing to an extent. Blood flashed from Kogami's shoulder - Sephiroth had managed to graze him. But it was not enough. Sephiroth turned around, looking at Kogami, who at that point, started his spin. Gathering immense amounts of momentum, it was clear to Sephiroth that Kogami was going all out. Sephiroth only had a few seconds left in him. Sephiroth intended to deal with Kogami's attack, and then go for the finishing blow. He would bet it all on this. If FATE (name of arc that Sephiroth is the MC of) had his back, Sephiroth would come out on top. Sephiroth closed his eyes, taking a deep breath. He exhaled as Kogami continued to spin. He inhaled again. His left arm was spiking with pain. He could feel every droplet of rain hit his body, and hear every droplet of rain hit the ground. In his mind's eye, he could see Gendo's grin. Everything was culminating now. Kogami finished preparing his attack, spinning one last time before kicking out with his leg.

The Rankyaku of all Rankyakus was unleashed, ripping through the air toward Sephiroth. Sephiroth tightened the grip on his sword, grit his teeth, exhaled again, and opened his eyes in a burst. His mouth opened, and Sephiroth unleashed a roar.

WRUOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

IGNITION... HELLBLAZE!!!!!

Suddenly, an enormous amount of fire erupted from Sephiroth's body, spreading outward like a fire bomb. Sephiroth's strongest technique, he was ''using up'' all of the fire burning within him. After using this technique, he would not be able to produce any fire for the rest of the day. The fire would collide with the Rankyaku, the two forces cracking the rooftop that they were on. Fissures started to spread across the concrete and the rain was blown away. The mighty flying slash and the erupting fire pushed for dominance. But, undoubtedly, they were equal. Neither attack was making headway.

Inside the fire, Sephiroth pushed off of the ground. The two attacks would erupt and dispel one another, and Sephiroth pushed through it, closing the distance. His sword no longer had any fire surrounding it, for Sephiroth had used it all up. All there was, was a thick, menacing, pitch black Busou-shoku no Haki, cladding the blade. With a glare in his eyes, Sephiroth commanded FATE itself - though whether he actually had any impact on it, or he simply wanted to, was anyone's guess.

YOU WILL FALL...!

Sephiroth roared, the command of a future King. Swinging his sword, Sephiroth sought to cut Kogami down.

Sephiroth stood eye to eye with a storm. In but mere moments an air wave to top all air waves within Rokushiki would be launched at him. The man could only gather nearly every drop of fire in his body and launch it against this attack. The clash of these two attacks erupted, and broke nearly everything in the area. Windows would shatter. Concrete would crack and tiles would be torn out of their casings. Even the rain would once again be halted from the battle ground. But this time it didn't recommence after a few short moments. No. The rain didn't drop for a while. The force of their clash so grand that it evaporated the rain on the entire rooftop and even beyond it. Above even the dark clouds had been sliced, revealing a ray of light through the darkness. Kogami could only look on as his attack flew for his stamina plummeted like a rock the minute the technique left his control. His hair fell down, and his skin turned extremely dry due to a lack of hydration. This form had taken every drop of energy and every ounce of resource the body could offer. The blowback from it, however, was immense and could not be compared.

But like a creature that had command over his fate Sephiroth had pushed through the fire and the trials that this place had given him. He'd arrive at the opposite end, staring down a stunned Kogami. The man couldn't believe his eyes. The Lunarian had deflected, defied and even beaten every move he had thrown at him. Unable to lift even a finger Kogami was victim to the last slash in this battle. The blade would jerk upwards and then swung down with perhaps everything Sephiroth had to offer. From his left shoulder all the way down the agent would receive a wound that would surely take his life.

The blade would at last come to an end at the bottom. Rain finally started to drop once again as it finally caught up to the battle of these two. Blood flew out of the agent's wound and his eyes faded in colour, he was losing his ability to remain conscious. But the agent did stand still for one moment longer.

"Ca...n't...belie...ve....he...."

Kogami said struggling to say the words he wanted to say. Whether Sephiroth wanted to hear them was a different matter. But the agent would say them nonetheless. He could not believe, not fathom that he was defeated.

"...was...right about...."
"You...."

The agent said before falling down to the ground sideways. His body had given up, unable to keep up with the wounds he had sustained. The overclocking of his heart had dug his grave. The proud champion of CP2 was no longer. And with that the division in itself was defeated. A clandestine operation, unearthed and conquered.

Silence and rain only remained within the battleground.

And the soft clapping of Gendo, who stood at the open window of his office.

Sephiroth's sword slashed Kogami's torso and blood erupted. For a moment still, Kogami managed to stand, uttering his last words, before his body ultimately fell and hit the ground with a resounding thud. The rain started to fall again, now washing away the blood that was on the ground, as well as the blood that stained Sephiroth and his sword. His long white hair was completely soaked. Sephiroth looked up at the sky, closing his eyes, the rain washing his face slowly but surely.

Sephiroth could barely walk, but he had to. Sheathing his sword and taking the scabbard into his hand, Sephiroth used it like a walking stick, helping him walk. Sephiroth walked past the fallen Kogami and ever so slowly approached Gendo. Sephiroth's eyes, through the soaked hair parts of which were falling over his face, were locked on Gendo. With every step that he took, Sephiroth was closer and closer to the mastermind that had caused him so much pain. In a matter of ten seconds or so, Sephiroth was finally in range.

He raised his scabbard. It was time to unsheathe the sword and swing. Gendo's time was upon him, just as Sephiroth had promised.

And yet, the scabbard lowered once again, touching the ground to help with the next step. Sephiroth took a step past Gendo, and then another. And another. A few steps later, it became clear. Sephiroth was not striking. Without ever turning around to look at Gendo, Sephiroth spoke, before walking away.

Let's see if I turn out the way you said I would.

Sephiroth said, before leaving the office the way he came. He was gone, likely much to Gendo's surprise.

Minutes later, Sephiroth was seen walking, still struggling, still using his scabbard as support. He had made his way down to the snowy area. Cyla and Gabriel were no longer laying in the snow. Now, they were sitting. Cyla noticed Sephiroth approaching and stood up hastily, though her left knee gave in just momentarily, causing her to stumble. But, she stood.

Sephiroth walked up to them, speaking.

It's over... We can leave.

Rain fell onto the sky and the Lunarian. A battle that had nearly taken his life was now finally over and the prospect of a new beginning only a couple of steps forward. Struggling he brought himself next to Gendo, using his sheathed blade as a walking cane. Gendo closed his eyes in preparation for the end to welcome him. Sadly, however, that end would not come. Not yet at least. The herald would simply walk by Gendo, the man confused at this decision looked behind him. A faint smile appeared upon his face.

"You cannot outrun Destiny. " Was all that Gendo would say on the matter.

Eventually Sephiroth would relocate himself to where Cyla and Gabriel had been left. They would reconvene and perhaps decide their next destination. Up top Gendo would walk through his office, all the transmissions safe one had been severed. The man in the mask would observe Gendo and spoke.

"You're aware you'll never be able to see how your creation will turn out, right? From this day on he'll be hunted by every facet of the navy. His nightmare has only just begun."
"I have no doubt in my mind that he'll become just as how I envisioned him to be."
"Farewell, Ikari."

The transmission ended leaving Gendo in silence and alone. Only a loud bang would echo throughout the floor and cascaded to Sephiroth and the others. There was no way out anymore for the director of the Jenova project. Whatever travels lay ahead for Sephiroth were now without the watchful eye of Gendo. But he was now a well known target, the marines would never give up on him after showing his strength today.

Elsewhere
On the waters between the base and a nearby island. A lone boat could be spotted with in it a single man who was rowing forward on his own. One hand on the paddle while another was holding the receiver for a snailphone. The water and weather was nice and calm, allowing for a conversation to be held in the middle of the ocean.

"Seems like he managed to beat them."
"No of course I didn't tell him. What do you think would've happened?"
"That Gendo is a real enigma though. Don't really understand why he did what he did. But I guess it worked out in the end. Got to give him credit for that I guess."
"Yeah, I'll see you soon. Be there in a day or so, winds pretty calm today."

"Got it, till then."

The hunter would say before closing the conversation between him and the mysterious third party. Now with his other hand free he started to peddle with both his arms, increasing the boat's speed with quite a margin.

"Sephiroth huh...Hope you got someone watching your back. Because it's only getting started from here on out. "

The boat then shot up with another burst of speed making it seem like this row boat had turned into a motorboat. A piece of paper would fly out of his pocket revealing a contract, a hit on Sephiroth for an unclosed time. Not now for it was too soon. But one day.

One day the dream would come, as they were ordered.

"Can't wait to see how you'll turn out."

Sephiroth had made his way down to where Cyla and Gabriel were. The cold air and the snow felt good, a stark contrast to the overheated battle that Sephiroth had just gone through. Sephiroth said that they were now free to leave, an idea that Cyla had absolutely nothing against. In fact, she looked excited. Sighing a sigh of relief, she spoke.

Fucking finally... I hate this place.

Cyla said, cursing like a sailor, highly unbecoming of her. That was just how relieved she was. Sephiroth looked at Gabriel, who was still sitting down.

So, you coming with us? I'll show you my dream.

Sephiroth said, extending his right arm down toward Gabriel - as if offering to help him up. Sephiroth's other arm still hung, limp from the battle. Gabriel looked up at Sephiroth's hand, thinking back to what Sephiroth had said at the peak of their battle. The entire project that Gendo had created, was now a thing of the past. Whether the conclusion of the project was a positive one or a failure, remained to be seen. But the fight here on this island was over with. Gabriel would see it to the end.

Would Sephiroth turned out as the projected intended him to? Or would he find a different truth.

Let's see what you got.

Gabriel said, taking Sephiroth's hand. Sephiroth pulled and Gabriel stood up. The trio walked out of the snowy terrain, and into the shadows. Right as they were disappearing out of sight, a flicker of flame was seen. Sephiroth was not able to produce fire at the moment, for he had exhausted it all with his Ignition Hellblaze technique. And yet, the fire was definitely coming from Sephiroth. Right there, on his back. Inbetween his wings. The flicker of fire disappeared as quickly as it had appeared. Something was changing inside Sephiroth. He was reaching the deepest roots of his Lunarian heritage.
