That's the funny thing. Couple his seeming high threshold for extreme heat , his apparent ability to come away uninjured from Nami's attack with Zeus, and a potential Hydra-like ability to regenerate from cutting attacks that I see cropping up...taken altogether, Orochi may be naturally tougher than others and even he himself otherwise believe. His natural cowardice and the protection of his cronies may've simply prevented him from realizing this for himself throughout his life in lieu of enduring an assault and discovering he's far sturdier than appearance suggest.
So then, what happens if he were to be subjected to the same kind of harsh conditions suffered by the likes of Kaido, Doflamingo, and other monsters who simply couldn't/wouldn't die? What if someone were to force Orochi to suffer the same brand of torture as several of his and Kaido's myriad victims -- e.g. dismemberment, being boiled alive, poison, firing squad -- only to survive and endure through each and every attempt? What if perchance Orochi were to slowly begin a personal transformation of sorts -- echoing that of other former dirtbags and weaklings such as Bellamy, Donquixote Mosgard, Helmepo… -- and gradually shed his cowardice ( as a snake does its skin, say ), slowly undergoing a virtual metamorphosis into a much greater threat, mentally and physically? Kinda like metal being repeatedly hammered and forged into something far more durable.
Would tie in nicely with the overlying themes of revenge begetting monsters, adversity only leading certain beings to growing all the stronger, violence and provocation inviting an escalation in consequences...
I actually believe we'll be seeing this come to pass.
I've long thought that Orochi was going to suffer earlier retribution than expected in the form of a coup initiated by the scheming Kyoshiro and Hiyori, a plot that'd involve him losing favor with Kaido thanks to their machinations. Well, given that the present often echoes events of the past in One Piece, I wouldn't be surprised to see the pompous Orochi making the same grievous error as his kinswoman, Kurozumi Higurashi, butting his nose and presuming to interfere in Kaido's impending battle w/ Luffy. And likewise paying the price for it...only with Orochi once again defying expectations by perhaps "miraculously" surviving a clubbing blow from the likes of Kaido.....buuuuuut then being left to the tender mercies of the ascendant Kyoshiro and/or Komurasaki once the dust settles, they themselves appropriately enough, narratively speaking , likewise having become warped into figurative monsters ( eyooooo ) by their wrath.
Only
Matt Hardy Orochi will not die; kinda like his beefy patron, what a parallel. And in his pain and unhinged fury gets reborn as an even greater monster than ever before, one that'll unleash the full power of the Yamata no Orochi devil fruit. His arc thus mirrors that of Momo's own struggle to rise above his own shortcomings and begin honing himself into the leader Wano needs him to be. I'll say it again: NIGHTMARE MOMO INCOMING. I shit you not lol. In nay case, the point here is that the villain's own journeys will somewhat reflect that of the heroes.'
Round and round we go, up and down...
Speaking of losers who can surprisingly take a vicious beating, know who else I expect to follow suit and level up in terms of threat level? Probably the last person anyone'd guess -- Saint Charloss. Twice now he's had his face caved in, only with Charloss managing to remain conscious the second time around, even seemingly forgetting his injuries in the midst of his conversation with Roswald regarding Kuma. Dude may actually be growing tougher with each new beating he experiences ( hey, experiencing new things, that's another big theme presented throughout this arc ). Sounds ludicrous, but as mentioned, he wouldn't be the first weakling, nor even the first Celestial Dragon, to gain an upgrade in toughness/formdiability. That's not to say he'll be kung fu fighting Luffy the next time they meet persay haha, but I do foresee he and Roswald ( black market connoisseur that he is ) scheming up some vicious countermeasures in the near future that'll give them the means of withstanding an assault strike back in a brawl.
Ditto quite possibly for Spandam. How
did that fucker make into CP0 haha? Well, one could chalk it up to his dad's political clout, but I wouldn't be surprised if he himself also comes packing a new bag of tricks, along with a sturdier composition, following his embarrassing pummeling and failures back at Enie's Lobby.
Add the inevitable glorious return of a resurgent Gecko Moria..the likelihood that'll be provided with further examples of "weak" devil powers proving to possess far more potential than imagined at first glance...the rising prominence of scrubs such as Caribou lol...I believe Orochi will serve as yet another, and appropriately dramatic, cautionary tale about the dangers of dismissing the "weak."
On that note, as I've said before, I'm betting it'll be revealed that Mr. "Strong live, weak die" Kaido himself started out as a weakling in his earliest days, same as Momo, Luffy, and yes, even Orochi. Not everyone can start out life as living embodiment of manliness that was Kozuki Oden, but that doesn't mean people aren't capable of drastic change. In fact this arc currently is, and will foreseeably continue to, further cement what's already been shown many times before -- people can indeed change in very dramatic ways.
Anyway, going back again to Orochi and what kind of threat he could present with a newfound change in attitude and no-fucks-given insanity boost? Some possibilities:
- the Yamata no Orochi was fucking huge, to the extent there was a veritable forest growing on its back. I wouldn't be surprised if Orochi's size increased in sync with his figurative growth in light of enduring and recovering from successive waves of injury, torture, etc. As mentioned, I think it's highly likely Oda will combine the myths of the Hydra with that of the Orochi, so I'd expect some kinda major regenerative ability that would at least make him immune to getting cut or some such. But then, cut him up enough times and you might get an ever-increasing mass of swirling snake heads.
- Here's a crazy one. Even if Orochi were to depicted getting decapitated and growing back his head(s), I doubt Oda would draw a bunch of said lifeless heads laying around...so as some have theorized, what if each sliced piece of Orochi were to say regenerate to some degree, becoming an individual snake monster? Would be quite the fitting power in a thematic sense, with Orochi having been abandoned by all his allies -- as I predict will happen by this point per this scenario -- thus having no one else to rely on but...himself. And himself. And himself. And himself ~~~~~(8 )~<
- Other than its renowned regenerative ability, another of the Hydra's infamous powers was its deadly poison, capable of killing even the likes of Hercules himself later in his life. Imagine that if every drop of his vile blood, every foul breath, every droplet of spit ( Aw fuck, CORONA ), he could now literally do what he's been metaphorically doing this whole time -- poisoning everything around him. Maybe even in a manner similar to that of the highly contagious Mummy virus, or the expanding nature of Magellan's own Kinjite* power.
* And hey, turns out 'kinjite' is actually a term that refers to "foul moves" in the sport of sumo, kinda like those seen from Urashima. Only further cements my belief that we'll be seeing the poison factor rear its ugly head repeatedly throughout this arc, particularly reaching a fever pitch in a sumo/poison battle between Queen and Kawamatsu, and later culminating in Orochi transforming into Big Snake Daddy Poison Bomb.
Would also tie in nicely with my expectations relating to the abilities of Ame no Habakiri as compared with that of Enma; an otherwise blunt sword that requires its user to sheath it in Ryuuou to cut anything, perhaps even catered towards cutting things of a more ethereal, immaterial nature...such as say fire, "spirits" such as Brook, Prometheus, or even those of devil fruits...Basically, a sword that can't be coated in poison ( or rusted, e.g. Shu's destruction of Zoro's sword back in Enie's Lobby ), and one capable of inflicting wounds hat stymy regenerative abilities like those of a hydra or phoenix, a living fireball such as Prometheus, or even the amorphous shapeshifting powers of a logia; imagine logia users, homies, and the likes of Marco being unable to reform once their "spirit" or whatever you wanna call it gets sliced...shades of Zoro's battle with Monet, or even Law's bloodless mincing of opponents.
Cut only what you want to cut, even if it's just your opponent's soul.
Ame no Habakiri aka the Snake Slayer of Heaven....an evil spirit-cutting sword of exorcism/purification.
….Fucking hell, this sure overran.

I like how everyone isn't what he seems to be in this Arc lol
Hiyori is Komurasaki, Denjiro is Kyoshiro, Ashura is Shutenmaru, Killer is Kamazo, Onimaru is Gyukimaru, Yasuie who changed a lot, O-Kiku is Kikunojo, Drake who is Marine Spy, a Traitor inside Alliance ..... etc
I also noticed that Most SHs had other Identities, Sogeking, Soul King, Miss All Sunday, Cutty Flam, O-Soba Mask
I wonder if rest will also get ones xD
No doubt. That's people in general. Alter-egos, personas, conflicting thoughts, idealized selves, past self vs present self vs future self....id, ego, superego.
Oda loves playing with the idea of multiple "identities" or facets co-existing in one being, harmoniously or otherwise.
Also, masked superheroes. I'm betting Robin for one is going to adopt her own Lucha Wrestling persona and call herself Robin Mask; a tribute to the character of Robin Mask from the popular gag wrestling manga, Kinnikuman, of which Oda was a fan growing up.
https://kinnikuman.fandom.com/wiki/Robin_Mask
Robin gonna let her hair down...or otherwise use it to mask her stubborn refusal to completely engage in Strawhat-style buffoonery. I dunno what exact circumstances would spur this decision, but I could see her doing so if forced to participate in some kinda tag wrestling match in a possible Davy Back fight against the Beast Pirates. I see Girl Power being another big highlighted theme to be heavily explored this arc, so a reference to badass female Puroresu would be quite fitting...especially if it leads to the return of the more cut-throat, ball-busting femme fatale side of Robin that many have been missing for so long.
Bonus hilarity: given Robin's rather morbid outlook at terms, I could also see her donning some kinda spooky, spiky armored getup further alluding to the Kinniukuman character...and thereby attracting the amorous attention of the supposedly perverted, S&M themed King haha.
I can see picture it now: Robin, decked out in her own unique Death Metal style costume, crushing nuts and putting bitches in agonizing submission moves...and all the while King is seeing all this and getting turned on, wants to be on the receiving end of it haha. Dude does seem to have some connection to Impel Down, and we did have a sadomasochist over there in Sadie....who coincidentally enough got taken out by female-form Ivankov using a back-breaking torture rack submission hold, which she seemed to like at one point.
Bonus sidenote; something all the pervs in the OP fanbase would surely fancy, and Oda being Oda, this could all tie to suspicions that King is in fact a very manly woman, in comparison to the red district-hoppin, sumo-lovin, gearhead macho man otherwise known as the delicately-lipped Queen.
Shit, if this bears fruit, watch them both fall in love with Robin; King with Lucha Robin Mask and Queen with Robin in geisha attire haha. Two figures falling in love with different versions of the same woman...THEMATIC *Vince Mcmahon voice*
So much potential. Whether it happens or not, it does spark the imagination.
