So, I’m secret Santa to this kid at the local high school. It’s sort of an “adoptive” Santa thing. Kid is 15. He is a anime/manga lover (which is why I picked him).

Anyway, his wishlist has some clothes, books and stuff that I’ll also get him, BUT he wants some manga called Cells at Work! Anyone heard of it? Is it any good? Or should I steer the kid into better mangas?

Suggestions on mangas to start him off?
Cells at Work is basically medicine in a more 'fun' way and probably less boring as well, it can create interest in medicine. If his interest is medicine to a certain extent, then Team Medical Dragon (Whilst incomplete translation-wise) is pretty good. Though less education and more hospital drama/politics.

Ah, the body cell makes sense, because he also wants this book called Immune: A Journey into the Mysterious System That Keeps You Alive.

They say not to buy them everything, but I’ma buy this kid everything. When I was a kid, you hid the fact you were manga/anime lover. Kid’s living my dream - gotta reward that. ❤

I’ll give him some repeat volumes I have of One Piece, the first volume of AoT, and maybe some MHA like Gambit suggested.
Sounds like a good plan. Maybe some Death Note as well, then he'll be addicted. xD

That may sound like a thing I would love to read.
It's a hospital politics/drama stuff, and really focus on that aspect - it is also quite an old manga.

But it's nice to see how the medical industry works in Japan apparently.

It couldn't sound any less boring after you said that. :ROFLMAO:

Well that's how it is, but it's definitely one of the better medical manga that I have read.

I watched a series on Netflix similar to that and I love it, "Amsterdam".

Hmm, seems like I made the correct choice to actually have the english translation of the greek quote.

Google translate is wack.

Hell yeah dude. Let that kid enjoy what he likes. But how the times are changing. I remember the days were people looked at me like I was crazy when I told them I liked dragonball, digimon and all the og shows from the 90s early 00s. Now it's a lot more common and more 'accepted' I feel.

In my country, I feel like it was inbetween. Yes, there were kids that would make fun of others for that, but at the same time, there was also about 30% of the class that did like it, so you always had enough friends. It just wasn't the ''cool kids''. xD

But there was at least a third of the class that played pokemon on gameboy, had pokemon and yugioh cards, played beyblade, etc..

I was very lucky to be in a country where everyone on the block loves manga, anime, games, and catching spider. I grew up having a real fist fights with these bunch as well and we are still friends.

In order to make him a future RPier, set him up with the Big Three early on. I wouldn't be surprised if he stick to it.

But if he's already reading it, Fire Force is a way to go. MHA too. Or get him to the classics, Yu Yu Hakusho, HxH and Flame of Recca.
Don’t listen to him. HxH and YuYu can be found online. The manga version is hard to read (too much info and art is bad) plus you can stream it on internet.

Fire Force is a bad introduction to manga. >.>

Get him a DVD of "Osmosis Jones". Its about a white blood cell cop played by Will Smith Chris Rock inside Bill Murrays body. When you have "Cells at work" at home. (TIL Will Smiths standard german voice actor voices Osmosis, but in the original it was Chris Rock).

I had one guy that shared my interest in pokemon, but then he also became cool. I only met fellow weebs in eleventh grade, and they introduced me to one piece.
