glad to hear she's fine. This reminds me of my grandpa

he worked with something like a saw and got distracted by my grandma calling him for lunch or something. He then cut off his finger. That's what I think happened. But yea, he's missing his index finger. Now he always points at things with his middle finger like a badass.

good that this didn't happen to you mom. Missing thumb is less nice I guess
