Sounds about right.

NPCs are fun. They won't necessarily make you much stronger, but it's fun.

Unless you got the level 80 and level 70 NPCs, those can make quite a strength difference too.

I'd just focus on buying EXP if I were you.

NPCs are one thing since they're fun to have, but other than that you need EXP.
I don't see how an adam wood ship would help you.

I bought 75k worth of exp by just saving up a weekly of <150m beri (sometimes near 300m when Ichi disappears for the week) + a sword worth 1b.

You just need to be patient.

Just go for 2-3 good paying islands and then it'll start adding up.

Dressrosa gives you 375m a week, you get 2 more like that and you're at 1 bill a week. From there, things speed up a lot.
