The background of the Jolly Roger was somewhat inspired by me re-watching Needless (average anime). The brown cap is basically the chestnut that pokes out of his unforeseen small afro. It's how he's identified as a distant descendant of Noland the Liar (so he's like Cricket's third cousin forty seven times removed from down the river).
