Valkyrie Island #11
@Hiei

The sky churned with storm clouds, the winds howling like the cries of a dying beast. Amidst the smoldering ruins, a shadow stretched across the battlefield—a monstrous figure stepping forward, each footfall shaking the shattered ground beneath him.

A deep, guttural laugh rolled through the chaos, heavy with the weight of conquest.

"Now this is a fight."

The Giant stood like a living fortress, towering even over Malekith. His massive frame was carved from years of battle, scars layered upon scars, each a testament to a life spent on the battlefield. His thick, sinewy arms flexed, rolling his shoulders as if the very act of preparing for war was a mere formality.

He took a long gulp from the oversized jug of sake at his hip, wiping his mouth with the back of his hand before exhaling a plume of steam. His crimson eyes burned with reckless excitement, his wild, unkempt beard shifting as he grinned a wide, hungry smile that promised nothing but carnage.

"You lot talk too damn much."

Without hesitation, he moved, closing the distance with terrifying speed. A giant should not be this fast.

His fist, wreathed in deep-blue flames, surged forward like a falling comet, coated in Armament Haki so dense it cracked the air itself.

The battlefield shook beneath his sheer force, the winds screaming in protest as his attack threatened to obliterate everything in its path.

"Titan's Wrath!" he roared, his voice splitting the heavens as his colossal punch came crashing down only for Lucifer to vanish. The Giant's fist struck nothing but air. In that instant, a golden blur descended from above. Lucifer reappeared behind him, already mid-strike.

"Solar Annihilation."

The Lunarian's flaming fist, coated in an obscene level of Haki, drove into the giant's spine with a force that defied reality itself.A sickening crack tore through the battlefield as the air warped from the sheer impact. The giant's body lurched forward uncontrollably, his knees buckling beneath the devastating force. His titanic frame, once so unmovable, was sent crashing downward, the very earth shattering beneath him as he was driven into the ruins.

His breath left him in a harsh, painful exhale, blood splattering against the crumbling stone as his massive form lay still. For the first time in his life, he had been brought to his knees.

He had lost.

---------------------------------------------------------------
The battlefield went silent as the giant's vision swam, darkness creeping in at the edges. His body, once an unshakable fortress, refused to obey him. His fingers twitched as he tried to move, to rise, to fight again but the weight of defeat pinned him down like a mountain had collapsed on his back.

He coughed, thick blood spilling from his lips, his breath ragged. His pride burned hotter than his wounds. A deep, guttural chuckle rumbled from his throat. Even now, even as he lay beaten in the dirt, he laughed.

"Hehahaha guess I ain't the strongest after all."
His fingers curled into a weak fist, his grip on reality slipping. "Tch, what a joke!"

His vision faded and his monstrous form finally going still.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------

The Pact of Valkyrie Island

The battlefield was silent. The earth was cracked and scorched, the air thick with the remnants of battle smoke, blood, and the raw scent of destruction. A single figure remained standing amidst the devastation.

Lucifer.

His crimson wings still smoldered, embers flickering in the wind. His golden eyes, piercing and unwavering, surveyed the battlefield as if measuring its worth. At his feet, the giant lay broken, a testament to the overwhelming force he had unleashed.

Among the stunned warriors, Lucianne, the leader of Valkyrie Island's Recon Unit, could only stare.

She had seen warriors who could carve through armies and monsters who razed cities in their wake. But what she had witnessed just now was beyond that. Beyond logic. Beyond reason. This wasn't just raw power. This was dominance. Her heart pounded in her chest. She knew Valkyrie Island, with all its warriors, with all its defenses, could not stand against this.

No, they would not.

Lucianne was not a fool. She was a warrior, but more importantly, she was a leader. And a leader knew when to fight and when to kneel. She dropped to one knee. The warriors behind her hesitated for only a moment before following her lead, lowering their heads in silent acknowledgment of the undeniable truth before them. Lucianne exhaled slowly before speaking, her voice clear and resolute.

"Lucifer. I have seen enough."

Her icy-blue eyes locked onto his, unwavering despite the weight of the moment.

"Valkyrie Island will not oppose you." A pause. The wind howled through the ruined battlefield.

"Instead, I offer you a pact." The weight of her words settled.

"From this day forward, Valkyrie Island shall stand under your command." There was no need for further explanation, no need for bargaining. This was not surrender. This was a choice.

A choice to follow the strongest.

The battlefield lay in ruin, the echoes of battle fading into an eerie silence. Lucifer stood amidst the carnage, his golden eyes surveying the shattered remains of his latest conquest. Embers still flickered from his smoldering wings, the heat of his power lingering in the air like the aftershock of a great calamity. The broken form of the giant lay before him, a testament to the sheer force he had unleashed. There were no cheers, no cries for mercy. Only the quiet realization of absolute dominance.

A slow, measured applause broke the silence.

"Effortless," Malekith mused, his voice smooth yet laced with disdain. "Such fragile creatures. They talk of strength, yet crumble like sand beneath the weight of true power."

Lucifer exhaled sharply through his nose, unimpressed. "I've had more engaging conversations with the wind. At least it knows how to push back."

Geralt, standing a short distance away, rolled his shoulders. "That was a fight, was it? Seemed more like a lesson in futility."

Lucifer smirked, stretching his fingers as the lingering embers on his knuckles dissipated. "They never learn, do they? Strength isn’t measured by arrogance or noise. It’s in knowing when to strike, when to wait, and when to walk away."

Malekith scoffed. "Walk away? From what? This world is ripe for the taking. Submission is inevitable." His tone was laced with irritation, as if the very notion of restraint was an insult to his nature.

Geralt crossed his arms.
"Not everyone needs to be crushed under your heel, dark one. Some just need a reason to stand aside." His tone was casual, but his amber eyes flickered with something more calculating. "No need to make unnecessary enemies."

Lucifer hummed in agreement, his wings folding neatly behind him. "For once, I agree with the Geralt. This was never about destruction. I wanted proof that none here could stand against me. I have it. There’s nothing more to gain."

Malekith's gaze darkened. "Conquest is never about necessity. It is about inevitability. Why stop when the world is so easily reshaped?"

Lucifer turned to face him, his expression unreadable. "Because I have more important matters to attend to."

The air grew heavy, an unspoken understanding settling between them.

Malekith sneered but said nothing further, his disdain evident. He thrived on conquest, on dominance, and the idea of simply leaving irritated him. But he would not argue. Not here. Not now.

Geralt merely exhaled through his nose, shaking his head.
"Well, if you’re done playing god, I’d suggest we move on. We’ve wasted enough time."

Lucifer stretched his wings, his smirk returning. "For once, Geralt, I agree."

Without another word, the Lunarian lifted off, his form cutting through the air as he left the battlefield behind. His destination was set.

The sea darkens before the sky does.

That is how I know we are close.

The air thins, pressure changing in a way most men never notice. Clouds stack higher ahead, layered and deliberate, not the wandering kind. They form walls, corridors, blind angles. Whoever chose this place understood defence. I respect that. I also understand how it fails.

The Quietus slows. Not from command, but from instinct. My crew feels it too, that subtle tension when the world begins to tilt away from what is familiar. I remain still. Movement, like violence, should only occur when it serves a purpose.

Valkyrie Island waits above, unseen, yet already judging.

Winged women. A skybound court. Laws sharpened into ritual. They capture trespassers not out of mercy, but confidence. To judge is to assume superiority. To hold trials is to believe oneself beyond corruption. That belief is a weakness disguised as virtue.

I have been judged before.

Every civilisation believes its rules are absolute until an exception walks through the gates. I am not here as a conqueror. Not yet. I am here as a contradiction. A man from the blues who does not behave like one. A pirate who does not pillage. A criminal who understands law better than those who enforce it.

The wind claws at my robes as the ship begins its ascent. Mechanisms strain, ropes tighten, men hold their breath. I do not look back at them. Loyalty is not forged through reassurance. It is forged through results.

Somewhere above, Valkyries watch their skies, convinced that nothing reaches them without permission.

They are wrong.

Mr. Error is not an intruder. He is a test case.

And by the time Fang Yuan’s true name becomes relevant, their verdict will no longer matter.

The Sky Island itself was still reeling from a previous conflict, but the Valkyries themselves looked like they always had. There was a few signs that a battle had taken place and things had been damaged but this was only in one or two locations and the rest of the land was unblemished.

Some of the winged women could be seen relaxing while others stood in lines training their swordmanship and other fighting skills. In a few hours the two groups would swap, the people currently training having a break until the next day. Gunnr was leading them in drills, pushing them quite intensely and occasionally correcting an individual or two. She is the Commander of the Valkyrie army but still reported to the former Commander, Hilda, as she was the current leader of the Valkyries. The second in command of the army, Eir was currently on patrol as she insisted on being semi-prepared despite the low chance of being visited again so soon.

In the middle of floating island was a large building with a small tower. This was the Sky Court and was a major part of the Valkyrie's culture. A tall Valkyrie with glowing wings was standing in the main room at a table slightly away from the judge's chair. A few people were bringing pieces of paper and placing them on the table before leaving and getting some more from another part of the building. On the other side of the table from Aurora was a younger Valkyrie staring intensely at the parchment, the Head Judge's daughter Alruna. Neither of them said anything as they kept looking at what was written on one paper and then picking up a different on.

The silence that had already been going on for 20 minutes was eventually broken another 10 minutes later by the younger one
"Do you think she will be exiled?". Her mother doesn't answer straight away, finishing what she is reading first.

"Unless we can find evidence to help with a second case...yes it is very possible..." Aurora's voice was slightly quieter than it would normally be and that was the only indication that the Head Judge of the Valkyries was nervous and tense. Her eyes drift over to a court file on the table next to her right hand. The photo of a woman stares back at her, her eyes defiant and a single line of text below it: Rouna has been found Guilty of crimes against the Valkyries and has been Sentenced to Judgement
Below the Sky Court that only an elavator could take someone to, several jail cells lined a wall. All of them was empty except the furthest one, a lone Valkyrie chained to the floor by her ankles and her clasped together hands. She was staring at the roof but was looking past it as her thoughts were very far away.

The sky yields, but only to those who understand how to take from it.

I have already taken enough.

The ascent lingers in the body even after it is done, a subtle strain in the muscles, a memory of cold air and thinning breath that lesser men would mistake for fatigue. It is not fatigue. It is confirmation. The line held. The calculations proved true. The world bent where it was expected to bend. My boots meet the surface of Valkyrie Island without spectacle, without sound beyond what is necessary, my robes settling against the high wind as though even they understand restraint, and I do not pause, nor do I turn, for there is nothing behind me worth acknowledging in this moment, only the certainty that I have arrived where I was never meant to tread.

There are no sentries here.

"Of course you would not place your eyes where you believe none may reach."

The words leave me quietly, carried off by the wind as soon as they are formed, not meant for anyone else, merely an acknowledgement of a flaw already understood. Their defences are structured for spectacle, for fleets that challenge the sky, for noise that announces intent, and in doing so they have built walls against storms whilst leaving themselves open to silence. It is an error born of pride, and pride is the most consistent variable in any system that believes itself complete. I walk without pause, each step placed with deliberate moderation, neither hurried nor slow, allowing the rhythm of this place to pass over me without resistance, as though I were merely another function within it, unremarkable, unworthy of notice, because the unseen is always more dangerous than the opposed.

The land speaks in fragments, not through sound, but through absence, and it does not take long to understand what it is saying. There has been conflict here. It is not obvious to the untrained eye, the structures still stand and the air is not thick with ruin, yet there are interruptions in symmetry, faint inconsistencies in the way space has been restored, repairs that are too recent, alignments that are too perfect, as though something violent was corrected rather than endured. This is not a land that collapses under pressure. It absorbs, then restores, maintaining the illusion of continuity even after disruption.

"Efficient. Admirable. Predictable."

I do not move towards the centre. Not yet. To rush towards significance is to declare intention, and intention invites resistance. Instead, I allow my path to drift, guided by gradients unseen, subtle inclines in terrain, the direction of the wind, the invisible distribution of structure I have yet to confirm but already anticipate. There will be hierarchy. There will be order. There will be a place where judgement gathers and convinces itself that it is absolute.

There always is.

"People build courts when they wish to convince themselves that control exists."

And where control is asserted, contradiction may be introduced.

My hand brushes lightly against the edge of my sleeve, a habitual motion not born of nervousness but of calibration, a reminder of what is concealed and what is required. I carry nothing excessive. Excess invites scrutiny. Precision requires only what is necessary. My gaze lifts, not to focus on any single detail, but to measure the whole, the scale of the island, the unseen centre of gravity that dictates how everything here will move, react, and decide.

Somewhere upon this island, judgement is being prepared.

I do not need to know its subject. Not yet. Systems reveal themselves through function, not isolated outcomes. Whether they condemn, absolve, or hesitate is irrelevant in this moment. What matters is that they believe the process itself is sufficient, that their method cannot be subverted because it has been refined, repeated, and trusted.

That belief will fail them.

I continue forward, unannounced and unchallenged, my presence settling into the fabric of Valkyrie Island like an unnoticed flaw in polished glass, invisible until pressure is applied and the fracture spreads beyond containment, beyond repair, beyond understanding.

"If you do not account for error, it will account for you."

And I am already here.

On the surface the women of the Sky Island were going about their duties and life as normal, casually conversing and training. But underneath it was a layer of curiosity mixed with anger, almost as if they were angry at someone or something but wanted to know more anyway. Conversations in the open was about 'safe' topics like the recent attack and what their friends had been up to, almost as if they were deliberately avoiding talking about a specific subject.

Behind closed doors and in quiet whispers, the Valkyries discussed the one thing they all had an opinion on or were curious about. A week ago Rouna was a decorated warrior that was seen as the next-in-line to lead the army, for many people she would've even be picked for Captain over the current second in command Eir. Now she was in chains underneath the Sky Court, awaiting Judgement after being found guilty during a trial. Nobody could have expected this and they would have seen anyone who suggested it 7 days ago as mad. It hit the denizens of the island just as hard as the attack, if not more as to many she had betrayed them and the things the entire society had been built on. Most were just feeling anger, but others had more mixed feelings or were just sad; but everyone wanted to know what the result will be in less than a days time.

Although the Court of the Valkyries had a similar structure to the ones in the seas below and even had many of the same punishments, it also has one that was reserved for the most major crimes; Judgement. After being found guilty and sentenced to it, a criminal and anyone who wants to help them has a brief amount of time to talk to people and convince them etc. After that amount of time has passed there is a big assembly and everyone votes for the punishment. This is done so it is not just one person, the judge, choosing the actual sentence and is instead the decision of the entire island. Usually the result is a done deal however and it is just an excuse for people to make their anger, sadness or other emotions known to the culprit before they are executed or exiled (the two most common punishments from Judgement); the Valkyries generally do not mock or insult during it however as they are 'above it'.

Alruna and Aurora were close with Rouna which was why they were trying to find evidence for a second trial, there was no way it wouldn't end with exile if Judgement happened so another attempt in the Court was much more likely to help her than trying to convince people to choose to exonerate her/a less harsh punishment. The problem was there was no real defense to what she did so the head judge and her daughter was struggling to find anything that would actually make a difference in another trial. Although she was impartial during the Court session and was actually the one who sentenced her friend to Judgement, Aurora wouldn't be allowed to judge if it went to a second time as she was now helping Rouna and would no longer be seen as impartial.

Eir makes her way down a rarely used path, having expanded the route of her patrol to cover even out of the way areas to make sure another attack didn't happen. A guard either side of her, she goes along the edge of the sky island close enough to look down at the clouds below them. They were on their way back to the start of their route and were trying to stay quite focused, the army's second in command doing everything she could to not think about things like the trial and upcoming Judgement. The trees to her right rustle in the breeze, but she still looks and makes sure as Eir wasn't going to be caught out again; not knowing she already had.

Valkyrie Island wears composure like armour. On the surface, its people train, laugh, and speak of ordinary things, their routines polished to perfection, yet the tension beneath is impossible to miss. Voices lower when certain names threaten to surface. Eyes linger. Smiles arrive a moment too late. Battle may have scarred the island, but it is not the attack that grips them now.

It is Rouna.

A decorated warrior brought low in the span of a week, now chained beneath the Sky Court and awaiting Judgement. I hear her name whispered through open windows and behind closed doors alike, carried on equal measures of anger, disbelief, and grief. Such falls always wound more than the individual. When an exemplar breaks, faith in the system cracks with them.

"Predictable."

Their Judgement fascinates me. A sentence passed not by one, but by all, allowing an entire society to share the burden of punishment. Exile. Execution. Collective righteousness draped in ceremony. Elegant, if one appreciates cruelty refined into tradition.

As I move unseen through the island's fringes, another figure catches my attention. Eir, vigilant enough to extend her patrol, wise enough to distrust recent peace, yet still focused on the horizon rather than the shadows already at her side. Two guards accompany her, both attentive, both looking in the wrong direction.

I remain within the trees, still as the bark itself, and watch them pass close enough to hear their breathing. Eir glances towards the rustling branches, her instincts sharper than most, but not sharp enough.

"Close."

She continues on, unaware that the flaw she seeks has already stepped onto her island. Rouna divides Valkyrie Island from within. Eir seeks to defend it from without.

And I, quite quietly, intend to make both efforts insufficient.

Eir and the two other soldiers makes their way up the quiet pathways, heading back to the main area of Valkyrie Island. Now her patrol was coming to an end, her thoughts were moving more towards Rouna and it was becoming harder to distract herself. The Valkyrie's either side of her stay silent but their thoughts were also on the same subject.

Passing a few of the houses on outskirts, nobody seems to be around as it was late afternoon and they were all in the more populated parts of the island. Seeing noone and therefore having no reason to stop, the three of them keep walking and decide to take the quicker path as Eir had already extended the time of the patrol so they didn't want to extend it even more for no reason. This route takes them through a sort-of public garden, various plants and flowers lining the cobbled path as they cut through it; they were some of the only species that could survive and grow so high in the sky. The garden also had a few small ponds, although no fish or anything else lived in them as basically all animals that existed in the sky can fly; or at least float. Eir and the two women with her pass a few other Valkyries that were walking in the botanical area, most of them greeting the second in command of the Army when they get close.

After exiting the gardens and walking towards the main square, the three Valkyries start to hear fairly loud noises coming from one of the other major streets. Changing direction slightly to head to the sounds, they slowly get louder and more distinct, eventually allowing them to figure out that it was people shouting. By the time they enter the street, they could make out most of the words and could see that there was a small crowd in front of them; the yelling coming from in the middle and the crowd just watching.

Using her authority and powerful presence, Eir is able to easily make her way through the people standing around and can now directly see what is happening. Two Valkyries are angrily arguing and getting close to coming to blows, the main topic being the battle but Rouna and the defences of the island were also coming up quite often. The one on the right was arguing that the Valkyries had failed as a race as they were not prepared for the battle and the lack of defences was a major factor, proposing they needed to catch up to the seas below in tech and weapons. The one on the left's stance was it had caught them off-guard and it wouldn't happen again, her retort to the proposal and other points was to bring up Rouna and that they would no longer be Valkyries if they relied on the same thing as the humans below. Getting louder and closer together as they yelled at eachother, Eir has to physically step between them as they are seconds from pulling out their weapons; both actually moving their hands to the swords on their hips as they take the last step before being interrupted.

In the Sky Court, Alruna and Aurora's search is halted by an attendant telling them it was time. With sad expressions because they hadn't found anything to help, the two of them tidy the table and have some other Valkyries take the things they had been looking at back while they make their way to another room. The only thing in the fairly small and pure white chamber was an elevator, which was guarded by two guards with spears.

Post 4 - @Ziosa

Valkyrie Island is beginning to fracture.

Not openly. Not yet. Its people still move through their routines with disciplined precision, patrols continuing, greetings exchanged, blades worn at the hip rather than drawn from them. Yet pressure reveals itself in smaller ways long before collapse arrives. Silence lingers too long between soldiers. Thoughts drift where discipline cannot fully restrain them. Even from a distance, I can see it settling over Eir and the two women beside her as they make their return through the quieter outskirts of the island, each of them carrying the same unspoken weight whilst pretending otherwise.

Rouna has become unavoidable.

I follow at a measured distance, unseen amongst the narrowing paths and sparse treelines, allowing the rhythm of their movements to guide my own. The island shifts around them as they pass from isolated homes into cultivated gardens lined with flowers that should not survive at such heights, their colours muted beneath the descending light of late afternoon. The ponds remain still, reflecting fragments of the sky like polished mirrors, whilst Valkyries walking nearby greet Eir with familiarity and respect. Order persists on the surface. It always does before unrest begins feeding upon itself.

Then the shouting starts.

Interesting.

The moment the noise reaches them, the atmosphere changes. Focus sharpens. Pace increases. Conflict attracts authority with remarkable consistency. By the time Eir pushes through the gathered crowd, the argument has already evolved beyond disagreement and into ideology, two Valkyries standing nearly chest to chest, hands hovering near their swords as emotion strips refinement away layer by layer.

One speaks of failure, of weak defences and outdated methods, demanding the island adapt and arm itself with the technologies of the seas below. The other rejects the very notion, invoking tradition, pride, and Rouna herself as proof of what happens when Valkyries stray too far from what they are meant to be. Neither truly argues about technology. They argue about identity.

That is why the crowd watches in silence.

I remain beyond them all, partially obscured beneath the overhang of a nearby structure, my gaze fixed not on the women shouting, but on the reactions surrounding them. Anger. Hesitation. Agreement carefully concealed behind neutrality. A society does not become unstable when people begin questioning its strength. It becomes unstable when they begin questioning its nature.

"Now the wound begins to open" I murmur quietly.

Eir steps between them before steel can leave its sheath, her presence alone enough to halt the final step towards violence, but the damage is already done. Once division becomes audible, it never fully returns to silence.

Elsewhere, unseen by the crowd and unknown to me in detail yet obvious in implication, the island's centre tightens around its own crisis. Judgement approaches. Time is narrowing. Whatever hope remains is fading quickly.

And Valkyrie Island, for all its discipline and elegance, is beginning to realise that certainty is far more fragile than it once believed.

Due to being a proud race of warriors, disagreements and arguments among Valkyries were common. Most actually enjoyed a good debate and small group sometimes even did them as a common past time in the evenings. However these were either only about fairly minor things or never reached anything serious, anyone involved generally still being friends afterwards or making up a few days later.

Major arguments only happened very rarely and were only between two or three people when they did happen. This situation with Rouna was quite unprecedented, leading to a divide that has never been seen before forming. The upcoming Judgement was on people's mind all the time but unlike usual it was somewhat impossible to discuss things civilly unless in private. But the argument between the two Valkyries in the middle of a major square was the first to actually nearly come to blows, all the others being resolved or stopped before they escalated that far. The main reason being that it wasn't just about Rouna like the others.

Eir has to physically step between the two people arguing, neither of which had noticed the arrival of a high-ranking member of the Valkyrie Army as they were only a few seconds from drawing their weapons.
"Do I have to arrest the two of you? I could already charge you with various things but if one of you draws a weapon I will be forced to draw my own, and you will wish I hadn't if I you force me to use my sword" Everyone watching knew she meant her words, Eir wasn't one to exaggerate and would take down even another Valkyrie if they threatened the safety of others.

Now quite sheepish, both women back down and apologize to Eir. While reluctant, they both also apologize to the other. Dispersing the crowd, the two guards that were with Eir on her patrol makes sure everyone heads home. Many of the women start walking towards where Mr. Error was hidden, although noone was looking in that direction or close yet.
